This is a long one, so buckle up
This was sometime last year I think. I had just been moved to a new department at work, after begging for so long to have a different position.
My new position was in the back, isolated from everyone else, with the rumored creepy man that was on the sex offender registry. However, the person who told me this was a constant liar, so I couldn't trust her words at face value. I was still cautious.
Over time this guy was nice, and I let my guard down a little. I regret that a lot.
He mentioned having a court meeting one day and I asked about it, and he said it was related to being in the sex offender registry, but "his ex wife did it to try and ruin his life" (bullshit he has attempted 3rd degree)
He had no sense of a personal bubble. Constantly standing so close to me. Often leaning over my shoulder to see what I was reading, and having his face inches away from mine. I could smell his breath. When I would try and find a task to be away from him, he'd walk around looking for me and "help" with whatever I was doing.
His favorite activity was touching the back of my neck and playing with the baby hairs whenever I put my hair up. It got to the point where I just COULDNT put my hair up, because he'd always notice and make a comment like "the tape snake is awake and wants to play" ( the "tape snake" was a zip tie he'd use to reach over and touch my neck) I wore only turtle necks for so long.
I was once putting stuff away on a shelf to stay away from him. He found me, zip tie in hand, and just stood there staring. I was putting so much focus on him, that I was putting everything away on the wrong shelf, and dropped a lot of it. He laughed. He laughed that I was so focused on him I messed up stock.
When I reported him to HR the first time, and a very clear boundary was drawn, he told me "your boundary is like a stone wall, I'm chipping away at it. I only tease you because I like you"
It got to the point I was constantly having anxiety attacks, sobbing every day, and having nightmares again. I had to report him over and over again.
I remember when he was finally suspended because he had been warned dozens of times and COULDN'T keep his hands off me. I was pulled into the general manager office and told, he was suspended for a week, and I broke down. Turns out that's what convinced everyone it had gone on way too long, and he was fired.
He tried to go for unemployment, and I was forced to go to court over it and retell all the harassment in front of him and a judge. He tried to antagonize me and bring up my job performance during HIS unemployment case.
He didn't get it.
When his desk was being cleared off by a coworker and manager, they found a condom hidden in his desk. They told me it made them feel sick. It still makes my skin crawl.
Tldr: an old man physically harassed and battered me for months and only brought up my 'bad' job performance being bad when he was facing consequences. Shocked he was fired.
I'm so self conscious about sharing my age, I feel like I need to keep it a secret.
I know it's silly, but I'm afraid I'll be called a creep and weirdo for existing in a space with teenagers. I've been getting called granny and old since I was 19. I can't imagine what I'll be called now
