Anons/Newbies: Tay’s coming out: the Label topic :
It’s a long post (sorry).
I’ve received a lot of Anons asking me why i wrote yesterday that Tay won’t come out as a Lesbian. I’m surprised why some of you still don’t get why, but bc we’ve had more waves of Newbies these past few months, it seems a part of them haven’t read older posts explaining some things.
The LGBTQ Labels topic about Tay (and Kar) was already explained (and detailed) several times : when the Rep era had started, when the album was released & when the Rep tour had started.
However, because the situation has changed 6 months ago, bc the original Gaygenda Plan was put aside in early Oct (resulting in postponing the deadline a little, and with different coming out options for Tay (and Kar) : i thought it was best to write a new post, updated, bc the deal is, still for now, different.
The funny part is this post and what it explains about Tay, could be outdated in just a few months from today (April 14th), depending on how things evolve in the next couple of months and what Tay decides to do according to it… Tay has become unpredictable, sometimes it’s a great thing, sometimes it’s concerning.. These past few months have been a WTF? mood for me many times, sometimes good, sometimes bad.
So, this is for Newbies (for more details & older posts about the former Gaygenda, please use my Search bar, type Gaygenda and scroll down, you’ll find the posts written during the Rep era :)
Tay, very logically, won’t come out as a Lesbian (at first) for career reasons (i write very logically bc she never ceases to surprise me, esp lately, and what was still accurate a month ago may be different in a month (oh my…).
So, IF she does come out as a Lesbian, which is still a very very tiny possibility, i’ll be the happiest one to say she has beat ALL logic & rules about the Industries & how they still work, with a big smirk on my face :)
But more seriously: Why do you guys think formerly closeted female celebs very rarely come out as lesbians, whereas some of them are? Look at what it did to Ellen Page’s career since she’s come out as one, a few years ago. And Tay’s career is much much bigger.
Even Cara Delevingne had to publicly say that she’s Fluid instead, trying to sell to the GP that there’s still a possibility for her to date men in the future (which is a big PR trick & it’s still a big joke in the Fashion Industry). I don’t believe for a second that Cara will ever date a guy.
But for career reasons (bc she was trying to boost her movie career (it was during the Valerian movie Press tour), she had to use that PR trick instead (i really don’t blame Cara, bc she didn’t have much of a choice)..And she’s far from being the only one.
For them to use that easier way Out: Fluid/Pan/Queer/No Label etc: is a better PR alternative than using the Lesbian or Gay labels (even the Bisexual one), bc these labels have become too specific and sadly don’t sell well with Hets (men & women) : especially for famous women (i don’t make the rules and i’m def not the first one to point that out).
I’m not saying it’s a trick they all use for PR/career reasons, bc i believe some of them really identify other than Lesbians and i totally acknowledge & respect that, yes, but it’s not true for ALL the famous women who have come out (one way or another) these past 4 years (the labels Fluid and Pan are quite recent, prior to about 5 years ago, no celebs “used” them).
The majority of Hets still puts LGBTQ people in boxes, as if it’s what defines us more than anything else, esp celebs, and sometimes it’s weird :
An example, seen again a few weeks ago : when Mel B (the Spice Girls) confirmed her past hookup with Geri, from back in the day: many articles in tabloids wrote: “bisexual Melanie Brown/Mel B said etc”…: as if Bisexual was Mel B’s first name. But ZERO article referred to Geri as “Heterosexual Geri Halliwell etc”: THAT was so telling, sadly still very representative in 2019.
A successful career in the Entertainment Industries (no matter which one) is also about selling the celeb (to the GP) as a BRAND, and for the brand to be built, to grow & to remain successful with time, it has to keep being attractive & relevant to Hets (who still are the majority among Society), who have been brainwashed for too long, perpetuating the narrow minded Heteronormality mentality we still live in, still making rules for success in the Industries. Exceptions exist, yes, among worldwidly famous women, but sadly there’s still only a handful to this day.
Anyone can name a famous woman who has come out as a Lesbian, since Ellen Page did? Bc i can’t.
Some celebs, esp men, are bolder & can come out as Gay more easily. For some of them it doesn’t affect their career (or not much): a recent & good example is for actor Luke Evans: it didn’t, bc he’s handsome, sexy = still highly desirable to Het women, so it didn’t push Het female fans away after he came out as Gay: bc they still fancy him. Rules for men are sadly different. Although it’s not the same thing for actors specialized in action movies..
But it’s not the same thing when a female celeb comes out. If she goes with the Lesbian label: first it drives Het men’s interest away from her (whereas the bisexual or any other label used that keeps a male “possibility”: still good for them (= the old fantasy about Het guys fancying woman on woman, but only if there’s still a possibility for them (rolling eyes).
For many Het women: they reject/unstan more easily the ones they like/are fan of, who are “accused of” being/come out as Lesbians, than the ones who said they’re Fluid/Pan or No Label.. You see the nuance here ? Hypocrisy at its finest.
Bc it’s important & that’s why many closeted female celebs still avoid coming out as Lesbians even if they identify as one. The vague/blurry element about the other labels is what remains ok for both Het men & women in the GP: the least clear/defined it is about non straight sexuality, for them to see about female celebs: the better.
Why do you think more go with the No Label one now? bc it’s even more vague: it’s explaining/defining themselves even less clearly : “I don’t label myself when it comes to sexuality”, “I’m attracted to souls, not gender” Most of the time it’s a PR twist, even more than for the Pan or Fluid ones now: everything else but to be too specific.
How many still seriously believe that when Kendall is finally allowed to come out in the next few years (crossing fingers), she’ll tell the truth? Of course she won’t. She’ll probably just say that she’s Queer, she may not even Label herself at all. Momager (and her team) would choose the least brand image/PR damaging “option” for Kendall, for the sole purpose of keeping both Het men & women interested/fangirling her: for career (and big $$) reasons.
You think Momager would agree to sacrifice the money machine, just so that her daughter can tell the truth about her sexuality, even if she wants/feels the need to? esp with the beards/rumored beards circus she has been orchestrating for Kenny since she was 18 years old? No freaking way. +the impact on Kendall’s career would be an unnecessary risk.
So, with the risk being already high for Kendall’s career/brand, imagine how much bigger it is for Tay’s career, brand and Empire (being very close to 1 billion dollars now) esp with the big contract she’s signed with UMG for 5 albums: coming out as Queer, Fluid, Pan, No Label: is one thing. Coming out as a Lesbian: is an unnecessary career risk.
Tay has worked way too hard for all these years, to risk impacting her career by using such a specific Label for now: it’s not necessary in any way for her either: she can come out without being that specific, even if she may want to tell the truth, even if she also knows it’d lead the way wonderfully, help a lot of other closeted famous women in the same situation, also wanting to come out & to be more honest about their sexuality.
Does anyone (with functioning eyeballs) still believe that our wonderful Goddess Brie Larson is anything but Gay at this point? I even have Het female friends who can see her Big Dyke Energy from a mile away, and they’re usually blind when it comes to Femme presenting closeted celebs.
If/when Brie comes out: would she risk using such a specific label ? or would she also have to choose one of the more PR acceptable options instead? If she comes out before Tay does: different label, Queer or No Label: yes, definitely. If she comes out after Tay: it may seriously change the deal, allowing her to get bolder if she wants to.
Some newbies still have to understand how things really work for celebs in the Industries, the huge pressure the closeted ones (esp women AND esp if they’re Femme presenting) have, esp Tay bc her Empire is huge: it employs a lot of people, it’s paychecks many families rely on: and it’s ALL on Tay’s shoulders.
Meaning that kind of decisions & strategies have to be dealt with very smartly & wisely, bc it can affect her career and by extension many people’s jobs, directly connected to her success. This point is rarely considered, that’s not the first time i’ve posted about it: When there’s about a 100 people working for you full time, and more than double that number with a big tour: many of them having a family, children, mortgages to pay: any big decision potentially impacting your career can also impact their job. Tay is a CEO, whose change of strategy can risk putting the whole company at jeopardy, risking her employees’ jobs.
Imagine the kind of huge pressure Tay feels on her shoulders every single day, bc of her decision to come out. You gotta respect that about her, bc it’s incredibly brave.
Another important point: UMG. It’s more than obvious that the coming out part was clearly explained to them before agreeing on the contract (otherwise i don’t believe for a second that Tay would have signed with UMG, if they weren’t ok with it). Still, UMG is the biggest Major in the Music Industry, expecting a great return on its big investment. At the end of the day (no matter what they say publicly) : it’s all about MONEY, and in Tay’s case: BIG MONEY.
So, agreeing on the least risky choice for Tay, about what she’ll say when she comes out (in terms of label) is logical: they know (and no need to be Einstein to also see it) that things will be less impacted (in terms of brand image & by extension sales (albums & tours) if Tay doesn’t come out as a Lesbian but chooses a less specific label instead (or even no label at all).
Yes it’s sad and sickening, but that’s how the Entertainment Industries still work, until mentalities change.
I truly believe that one day, in the near future, Tay will debunk her beards. Why? bc it was originally planned for the Gaygenda: the F*ck It Version (how i had nicknamed that wonderful Plan), debunking the beards used during Kaylor (not before that). I have no doubt Tay still wants to make a big statement in the Industries and for the GP to open its eyes, bc she knows that for things & perception to really change, it has to come from the top, to set an example, to get other closeted celebs follow her path about it, coming out & also (hopefully) debunk their beards: the big rainbow domino effect that could change everything.
Even if i’d be (like many other Kaylors/Gaylors) the happiest person on Earth to see her publicly tell the whole truth when she comes out, i don’t believe she will risk it in the beginning. Maybe if things change for real after she comes out, if the storm she initiates allows her to be more truthful a few years after her coming out, she may be more precise. But for now, it’s one priority at a time.
On paper what TRULY matters is for Tay to come out (& not to wait for another year or two), to be free (finally), after having been pushed back in the closet when her career started to take off (whereas she was out before that, meaning she had gone through her coming out process already, at 14-15 years old (can you imagine how hard it must have been for Tay at the time, to be pushed back in the closet?), to have that HUGE weight finally gone from her shoulders, to finally stop hiding, pretending & bearding.
It honestly matters a LOT more than which label she’ll choose to go with when she comes out.
So, to fans still thinking & writing (in posts or Anons) that they’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t come out as a Lesbian, also saying she’d be hypocritical by choosing another label to hide behind : i hope you still believe that bc you’re young & immature (bc if you’re Swifties and have seen & understood how the Rep era was: it should be easier for you to get it).
Hopefully, this post will humbly enlighten some newbies who didn’t know (nor had researched first in older posts) how things still sadly work.
The Label Tay may choose when she comes out, and what she’ll say (or not) : won’t matter.
What matters is that she comes out, and quickly, bc she needs it, she wants to do it, and gosh knows she deserves to be finally free after all these years.
