She examined him closely before she spoke. “I don’t see an U.S Army badge in your uniform.” She stated and raised a brow.  ”Where’s that safe zone?”

"We're from a special operations unit under the direction of NATO. No insignias, kind of a unit rule." While that was true for the actual Duke, it was an outright lie concerning Zartan's own affiliations.  "The rally point is about one klick out, from there we'll make a push with the others to the safe zone."

  "I was sent to pick up some files—"

"What files? I wasn't informed about this. Do you have them on you now?" he questioned her. 

"What the hell took you guys so long to gain clearance for evacuation?" She asked in a grumble, walking with the man in a quick pace. "It’s been over an hour and a half."

"There was a paperwork snafu. All that matters is that we're here now." he replied, leading her through the street. Zartan was extremely calm, even while impersonating an enemy. All part of the job. "Come on, the evac is this way." 

  She slowly lowered her gun, glancing towards the male. "What are you even doing here?"

"I'm Captain Hauser. United States Army." he stood up, re-readying the rifle slung across his chest. "I'm with a group of about twenty others, we're gathering people and bringing them to a safe zone." 

"Udachi s etim …"

"You'll never even know I'm there." 

"What? This is mildly entertaining."

"Hey, this is Duke. I'm literally the dumbest soldier ever. I'd rather stare confused at the woman pointing a gun at me than shoot her in the head." 

"Your ‘Firely’ impersonation may be flawless, but your ‘Nikolai’ needs some work

"Then I will just have to study you further." 

  "It was obvious. By the way, your Russian accent is terrible."

"My impersonations are flawless. I just struck a nerve with you."  

"Yeah. That’s Zartan. He’s an asshole.” 

"Trust me. I can tell."

"But I'm an even bigger asshole than he is." 

"Ohhhh.. I love my job. Have I mentioned that?"
