What do you mean, 'Zoids aren't still relevant'?

Equipped with a devastating charged particle cannon and weapon binders on it’s legs (which included powerful beam cannons and rocket pods), it can dish out a lot of pain at range. However, it is noticeably more dangerous at close range than the Geno Saurer. In addition to all of the Geno Saurer’s melee options, the Geno Breaker also includes a blade on its head, and the Geno Saurer’s back-mounted beam cannons have been replaced with a backpack that includes jets and the Geno Breaker’s signature X-Breakers, which can cleave lightly-armored Zoids in half with little effort.

Defensively, the Geno Breaker is no slouch. In addition to the heavy armor that was standard to the Geno Saurer, the X-Breakers provide forward-facing E-Shield generators. This, however, highlights one of the Geno Breaker’s only weaknesses: it has very few tactical options for enemies attacking from behind. Luckily, its high mobility helps to negate this weakness.

Being based on an elephant, the Elephander has predictably low speed, but its lumbering appearance belies the maneuverability granted by its advanced combat systems. Its heavy armor is comparable to that found on such large-scale Zoids as the Iron Kong or Gojulas, giving it formidable staying power. On top of that, the Elephander has three main configurations, granting it tactical flexibility.

The most common configuration is Assault mode, which is the first pictured in this post. It includes a trunk-mounted cannon and claw unit that can be used to subdue enemy Zoids, with backup from the underslung cannon common to all configurations, and a back mounted large-bore beam cannon shared by the Assault and Command configurations. Supporting these offensive options are the energy shield emitters mounted on its ears. This gives the Assault mode an edge in both offensive and defensive situations.

The next pictured configuration is known as the Scout version. Of the three, it is the only one not intended for direct combat. Instead, its offensive options are replaced with various sensors, including a 3D radar mast on its back, sensor arrays on the ears, and a magnetic anomaly detector on the trunk used to detect mines or other buried ordinance.

The final version of the Elephander is its Command configuration. In this mode, the head and cockpit of the Elephander are replaced with a different one that includes a high-tech communication suite to coordinate troops on the battlefield. Hidden in the ears are missile launchers, and the trunk-mounted claw is replaced by a special ESCS unit. This Energy Sword and Cannon Shield Unit is a powerful offensive and defensive option that can generate a shield in addition to having a flexible weapon that doubles as a high-powered cannon for long range battle, or an energy sword to tear through enemies at close range.

The Command Wolf was created as a Zoid capable of leading more antiquated Zoids into battle, gradually phasing out the older machines to replace them with a more versatile and easily-mobilized soldier archetype. For a time, it stood head and shoulders above other Helic Zoids, both figuratively and literally. Eventually, however, the Command Wolf’s relatively light arms and armor put it at risk of being rendered obsolete. The CP-04 was the Republic’s answer to this problem. By attaching a larger-bore weapon with a sensor suite to the Command Wolf, its usefulness as a scout and general soldier unit was restored. This upgrade also included boosters to make up for the weight of the added beam cannons, meaning this configuration was actually slightly faster than the standard Command Wolf.

Personally, I find its Organoid origins the more interesting option, if only for the inherent mystery behind it. At no point is the Organoid system elaborated on--in the anime, Organoids were small Zoids with the ability to fuse with other Zoids, however the Battle Story implies that it is some sort of either integrated system or manufacturing process created following its discovery in an ancient Zoidian ruin. Either way, Zoids created with said system tend to be more anatomically accurate than older Zoids models. This trait is also seen in the Rev Raptor, which I have a post about here.

The Gun Sniper itself is fairly well-armed, including two small Gatling guns on its arms as well as two missile pods (which doubled as rocket boosters) as its secondary weapons. Its primary weapon is a long-ranged, high caliber sniper rifle from which it received its name. 

In-universe, the Neptune was the result of the Republic being forced to flee from the Guylos Empire’s Death Saurers. They had to escape into a canyon, and large-scale Zoids were far too cumbersome to maneuver properly in the new environment. The Republic forces developed smaller Zoids to use in this engagement, and the Empire created similar Zoids to flush them out. The Neptune was an amphibious support vehicle equipped with a bazooka (behind the pilot’s seat) and two torpedos mounted on its underside (pictured). Another fun detail are the bars on the Neptune’s legs, which are presumably how the pilot climbs into the Zoid.

All Republic Zoids in this line had translucent blue plating similar to that you see on the Neptune. This bulletproof armor provided a degree of protection to the otherwise defensively weak Zoids.
