Zoey had come over early for the annual Brannon Christmas party. The girl showed up in a shirt red dress with leggings underneath. Her heels in her hands. Seeing as how she had to walk the seven blocks to his house. Both of her parents were working and Zoey refused to miss it. So she got dressed in the nicest thing she owned (which she felt like still didn’t meet their standards) and dug through her mothers jewelry for a pair of earrings to match the promise ring Asher gave her for her birthday, and took off on foot.
Zoey pushed the few strands of fallen hair behind her ear and knocked on the door, cursing to herself at her chipped nail polish and prayed no one would say anything. Xx @asherbrannon xX
Shaking his head Asher exhaled, looking at her before he leaned forward, kissing her shoulder softly. It was a simple gesture, but something he'd found himself doing without even realizing it most of the time. "Wait, so we're going to the hospital like they told us and we still may come home without a baby?" he questioned. "And there's no way in hell that we're leaving that hospital without charges being put on Grace unless it's because you chose too. There's no way.. there's a literal bruised handprint on your face."
Zoey gave a small smile but cringed in pain, “You’re hot when you’re pissed.” She joked? Pulling down the mirror to look at herself. Her hair was only partially dried. Her face was a wreck, and she was still only in Asher’s shirt. She whimpered softly, “I look homeless.”
“It just - this whole situation is stupid.” He shrugged. “I’m pissed that we may end up loosing our daughter over a situation we can’t control.” He sighed. “And just- i don’t know I want her to be okay. That’s all I’m thinking about and I’m worried we won’t be able to protect.”
“She seemed okay. The paramedic said they didn’t see anything wrong. She might be early with how tiny she is but her breathing was good. I just- I could kill your sister.”
“At least she seems to be okay.” He spoke, squeezing her hand. “I would say she’s early but if she’s not struggling or anything at all then I’d say that’s a good thing right?”
“It’s not bad. She just was super tiny and she was freezing. Like she was struggling the regulate her temperature. Though might just be something she gets from me.”
“Oh 100%.” He nodded, lifting her hand and kissing it softly. “She’s gonna be just like you. I just know it.” He spoke. “How much for you think she weighs? If you had to guess?”
“At most? 6. And honestly that feels like a stretch. I want to say four, but goggle says she’d need to go in the NICU for that and there’s no way we can afford her to go there.”
“I mean sadly it’s not a matter of what we can and can’t afford babe.” He sighed. “I have a feeling she’s going to end up there anyways. Even if it’s just for a few hours for observation. I mean, I want her to be fine and healthy without it but it doesn’t feel very likely to me, sadly. Not with the fact you’ve been pregnant for months and we had no idea..”
Zoey nodded, “I know. You’re right. It just- it sucks and we’re going to do into so much debt. Especially now that I’m going to have to be admitted to. That’s to hospital bills.”
“It does.” Asher nodded, looking over at her as he grabbed her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. She had a a good reason to be worried about bills; sure, they both still lived at home but most of their extra curricular activities and even food sometimes came out of their weekly allowances, and it wasn’t like Zoey got much at all. There was no way Asher’s allowance would ever cover two medical bills. “But bills I can take care of. Send in my allowance once a month, make an effort.” He spoke. “There’s not much more I can do about that part right now but I could never live with myself if I didn’t agree to let you guys go and something happened.”
“If we don’t go. We don’t get our daughter.”
Nodding, Asher turned on the car and followed along behind the ambulance, making their way to the hospital. Once there, Asher got out of the car, helping Zoey out of truck. “Let’s go see what they say about her.” He spoke gripping her hand.
Zoey laced her fingers together with Asher, her entire body still slightly shaking. Still in shock she softly whispered again “I- I didn’t know.”
