While I love Spider-Man and am fond of Tom Holland’s version of the character, I feel that it’s a bit too late to have him be the MCU’s “working class” superhero. We already have a working class hero; Hawkeye. My arguing points:
1) Clint was caught off-guard by the decadence of the Bishop family penthouse. And this is after he spent years working with Tony Stark, so it’s clear he’s still not that comfortable being around the 1%.
2) Clint’s whole gimmick (his “brand”) is that he’s the least extravagant Avenger. He’s not rich, he doesn’t have fancy gadgets (aside from the trick arrows, which he has to pawn off of from other people), and he doesn’t have fast-selling merchandise. When he gets hurt, he has to go to the local CVS just to get some medicine and bandages.
3) His show was about him teaching a spoiled rich girl how to live on cheap supplies and that being a superhero is more than just the image and theatrics. In fact, his show ends with him bringing the rich girl back to his farmhouse (in Hallmark Channel terms, he took the rich girl out of the city and brought her to the cozy, smalltown where everyone is living a simple life).
4) In the deleted scenes of Hawkeye, Clint grew up having to steal because he and his mom were broke.
5) The Hawkeye show made it a point that Clint is the Avenger who gets along the most with the “common people” (example: Grills and the LARPer community). He’s the Avenger that you could just walk up to and get a beer with since he’s a normal dude who you could relate to.
6) In terms of costumes, Tony uses a high-tech suit of armor, Steve got his uniform from the U.S. military, Natasha is using her Red Room gear, Thor is a royal prince and is dressed like one, and Bruce transforms into his “suit”. Meanwhile, Clint’s signature costume is literally a cosplay made by a LARPer.
7) Minor point but he still insists on paying for his food even though he’s a celebrity. He doesn’t want to freeload off of other people’s hard work.
8) Clint is the poorest OG Avenger and is the one given the least amount of attention. Hmm…coincidence, or is Marvel/Disney trying to tell us something (I’m joking on this point…or am I?)
