Chapter 3:The world is ugly, but you’re beautiful to me
Author’s notes:none. Enjoy!💗
It was like any normal day. Everyone was getting ready for the day. You were in your diner outfit, your mother was getting ready for a doctor’s appointment, and Gerard was preparing for his meeting. This meeting could determine whether he could make it back to Anthea soon. As much as he loved hanging out with you he was getting home sick.
You were currently eating cereal as Gerard had some eggs. Your mother already left. “So what’s your home like?” You asked. Gerard paused mid bite. “It’s…Beautiful. The atmosphere is just breathtaking. And the people are amazing as well.” “Do you miss it?” You whispered. Gerard then nodded. “Yeah…Of course I do.” “Why are you here then?”
Gerard couldn’t let you know yet. He liked you and wanted you to like him back as well. His true self had to be hidden. “I can’t say.” Gerard said. That just had you question him more. “Tell me, Gee. Don’t you trust me?” Ouch. Of course he trusted you. The two of you had been amazing companions. But his fear of losing you all because he was an alien scared him.
“Look I’ll tell you when the time is right.” Gerard said while eating a spoonful of eggs. You reluctantly sighed and said, “Fine I guess…You have to tell me before you go back home.” “Deal.” The two of you shook on it.
Gerard was on his way to drop you off at work. You were tinkering with the radio when ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Elvis Presley came on. Gerard heard it a few times. It was a nice melody. But listening to it with you in the car was a whole other experience. You hummed the melody softly and looked at him now and then. When the song was over that’s when you arrived at your job.
As you’re exiting the car you do something bold. You kiss Gerard. Not on the cheek. No. On the lips. It wasn’t hot and aggressive. It was just gentle. When you pulled away you watched as his face was in a daze to which you got a kick out of.
Gerard watched as you walked inside the diner and just stared in awe…Then he looked at the time on his watch. His eyes got wide he was going to be late!
Later that day Gerard was heading back home from the meeting. It was a bust. Basically they had told him that there would be possible malfunctions with carrying all that water so they had to make a few more adjustments to the rocket and its systems…Making it just take longer for it to be ready.
Gerard was a little frustrated. His family’s life was on the line here. He just wanted to show his true self to people and demand that they hurry up with this…But it was no use. He just needed to breathe. He already didn’t like the damn disguise. He wanted these contacts off. Wanted his antennas to be free. His gills to be out.
When he arrived to the house he noticed you weren’t there. Well that was obvious you didn’t get off till 7:00pm. Your mother wasn’t back either…What harm could there be in him revealing himself by showing his true form? It’s not like he was going anywhere else. Besides he needed this. It had been months of hiding and quiet frankly he was done.
He breathed a sigh of relief when he got his human disguise off. It felt better. More comfortable.
Then that’s when he heard it. The door. And you.
“Gee! I got off early! Honestly I faked being sick…But we can-“ and that’s when you saw him. The two of you made eye contact not knowing what to say…Then you screamed out of terror. You quickly grabbed your shoe and threw it at him. It hit him on the side of the head. “Ow!” He said.
“Where’s Gerard?!” You yelled. “What did you do to him?!” You go over and pushed poor Gerard down and start hitting him with a pillow that was on the bed. “Ow! Ow! It’s me!” He said. “It’s me! Gerard!” You then stopped and said, “Tell me something only the real Gerard would know!” Well that was easy. “I got brain freeze and you told me to put my tongue on the roof of my mouth…I always dance and help out with your mother in the mornings…And you’ve kissed me twice.” You put the pillow down and said, “…It is you…” “Yes.” “Well why the hell do you look like that?!” “Rude much?” “I’m sorry it’s not everyday I see…This!”
Gerard sighed. “Can I just explain?” “…Yes.” You sat down on his bed waiting for him to explain. “I come from a planet called Anthea. My friends and family I’ve told you about are also from there. Recently our planet has suffered through a drought. Water is very scarce. So the people decided to send someone off to earth to get water back. I volunteered.” You looked at him and said, “I think I’m going to have a bath to process this…”
You were now in steaming hot water. Just how you liked it. You were scrubbing your hair with some shampoo. The door opened and you got lower in the water where the bubbles hid your chest. You looked up and saw Gerard. He was in his human disguise now. Hazel eyes. No antennas. No gills. And he had his human like complexion back. There was a silence in the room. Gerard looked at himself in the mirror examining his face that was now hiding his true self.
You then broke the silence, “I won’t tell anyone. And this doesn’t change anything between us.” He looked down at you. The shampoo was now out of your hair and you looked straight at him. “I appreciate that.” He replied. You nodded. “Mom can’t know.” You said. “Figured.” He replied. “…You must miss your home.” “I do.” “And your brother.” “Yes.” “And friends.” “Yes.” “Is that why you didn’t know much?” “Mhm.” “Should’ve done some research before you came here.” You joked.
Now that you knew the truth it was much easier for him. But despite knowing what he really is you still saw him as human. He was still the same kind and aloof man that made you and your mother smile.
“Kneel down.” You tell him. Gerard got on his knees and placed his hands at the side of the tub. You then leaned in and kissed his lips. Gentle again. But this time you stayed longer. You moved back and said, “You’re still just Gee.” You then played with his hair. “I’ll be done with my bath soon then if you want we can make lunch together. Mom should be back soon.” Gerard nodded and got up walking out of the bathroom.
He was glad you didn’t hate him now. You still saw him as the man you met a couple of months ago. When you got out of the bathroom in comfy pajamas Gerard hugged you tightly. “What’s the matter?” You ask. “I’m just glad you don’t see me differently…” You nodded and hugged back. “Of course, Gee. If you were of any harm you would’ve done something by now I assume.” Gerard laughed. “Yeah…Well I’m not.” “…Are you almost done with your mission?” “The people working with me say there needs to be a few tweaks…But it should be ready in another month or two.” “Do they know?” “No. Only you.” You nodded again.
“Come on Gee. Let’s make lunch.” You held his hand while leading him to your kitchen. That flutter was still in his chest as he looked at you. He was grateful that you were here to support him and you wouldn’t tell anyone. He knew for sure you’d be a story to tell when he got back home.
