VERY LOOSE headcanons for the verdant v snowfallen au that exists purely in me and also @zestinator5000's minds. go my scarab:
most important context is that like. some sort of territorial war thing has been happening for probably generations. we love territorial war
wicker runs the snowfallen side of things, and max is the king of the verdant side of things
likewise, winona is wicker's second hand, and wigfrid is max's personal knight
i don't really know if you can consider either side fae exactly, but they're certainly like. species unique to themselves. so each of them struggle to adjust to the climate of the other's
maxwell's shadow magic stays more or less the same, but functions a bit differently. he has mastery over a power and state referred to as Rot.
i think rot initially intrigued maxwell because he was looking for some sort of state or form that verdants could take that would allow them protection over ice. a rotted body hardly reacts to the cold. but of course there's like. all the Issues with that. so it's not really the solution he was looking for
he's full of rot but don't worry abt it he hides it very well
obviously, since winona is a snowfallen, charlie is one too. she ended up meeting maxwell near the borders of the two forests, and fell for his talent and charms. who wouldn't be enraptured with the dashing stranger who grows flowers wherever he steps? especially when you've hardly ever seen flowers before
the flower in her hair is a gift from him
i don't really think we ever figured out how it happened but she's also full of rot now. dw abt it it's fine she loves the rot. so yumy.
other assorted snowfallens included: woodie, walter, webber, wolfgang, and willow
other assorted verdants included: wendy, wurt and warly
woodie was ostracized from verdant territory on account of his curse being deemed too dangerous. however, he managed to win the snowfallen's favor, and his curse is incredibly efficient for lumber management, so he's found a nice home
likewise, willow was ostracized from the snowfallens for her affinity for all things hot. and all the counts of arson. and to be fair the verdants are also scared of the arson thing so she's kind of a prisoner? but only by a technicality. she's very heavily monitored, but ash can be a great resource for nurturing plants, so she's kept fed and housed and busy
i don't remember anything else there's probably more. there's a whole bunch of wigfrid specific things that i'm not listing here because if i did they would gun me down in the street
