It was two in the morning. The last band had long left the stage. The lights to the bar were on, trying to signal the last stragglers to leave.
Light sat at the bar waiting for his friend to get off work. He stared at his phone uninterested in what he was actually looking at.
Lately everything was justâŚboring.
He looked over at the people that hadnât got the hint to leave yet, then at his half full beer. He secretly challenged himself to finish it before the two guys said âdudeâ again.
He took two sips.
âDude, you think theyâre gonna kick us out?â
Light snickered under his breath, taking a few more sips of his beer.
When he looked back down at his phone again, the sound of the mic hitting the floor burned through his ears. Everyone shifted their attention towards the stage.
Light, who barely looked up from his phone, peered over.
The last group had long finished performing and was now cleaning off the stage.
Another Band Manager?
Light eyed the guy on stage. Square framed glasses, probably to cover the dark circles under his eyes. Stringy black hair. Rings on almost all his fingers.
Light snickered. Heâs come to the bar enough, so he's seen his fair share of rotation of band managers.
The âdeath notesâ stupid band name. Stupid band manager.
âI wonder how long this guy will last.â He muttered under his breath finishing off the rest of his beer.
The band manager dropped a few more items. Light got annoyed. He stood, tapping the bar to let his friend know he would wait outside.
It was summer, so the night was still hot. When Light stepped outside. He sucked his teeth. The air was still, barely a breeze drifted through. He leaned against the side of the building.
Reaching into his pocket. He really did want to quit, but between the boredom, the heat and the headacheâhis craving worsened.
He pulled out a cigarette, placing it to his lips. He didn't light it right away. He pulled out his phone. After aimlessly scrolling past a few videos, then finally lit it.
Inhaling deeply, holding it, then exhaling. He continued to scroll. Everything that came up was current events. Things have gotten so bad lately. Everything just made him feel worse.
The sound of the heavy metal door opened. The last people were leaving the bar. Light still had to wait until everyone left for his friend to clock out.
The heavy metal door slammed shut with a click. He bit down on his teeth. The sound of the door closing left his head pounding. He took another drag of his cigarette, letting it hang freely from his lips like he didnât even want it. Then continued looking at his phone.
Cars outside drove past. Distant screams from people leaving neighboring bars, laughter clinging to every vessel in his brain. He just wanted to leave. What was taking so long? He pulled out another cigarette, placing it between his teeth.
The door to the bar opened again.
A band member carrying out equipment.
Light clenched his teeth as the door was about to slam shut.
Before it closed, it was being held by the new band manager. He pushed it open . Placing something in front to keep the door open. He glanced over at Light, then back into the bar.
âLet's get the rest of the stuff in the van.â
The band manager stepped out into the heat, reaching into his pocket.
He pulled out a cigarette, but didn't light it . He bit down on it a few times. Twisting it around his mouth.
Light looked over. âNeed a light?â
âNo, I quit. I just like to bite down on it.â
âOhâŚokay.â Stupid.
The new band manager stood there for a while listening to the sound of the current video Light was watching. âThey still haven't caught that guy? You think it would be open and shut.â
âYou know this case?â
âI read about it somewhere.â
Light raised a brow.
âIts like they're covering their tracks before they make an arrest.â
âRight.â Light nodded, looking back at his phone. That was something he was thinking too.
Ryuzaki put the unlit cigarette back into the box, he reached his hand out. âI'm Ryuzaki.â
Light held his hand out. âLight.â
âIm the new band manager.â
âMm.â Light nodded
Silence thenâ
Some yelled from behind. âRyuzaki the vans packed.â
Ryuzaki turned to leave. âSee you around.â
âMm.â
Light's friend came out next. He saw Ryuzaki walking away. âWho was that?â
âThe new band manager I guess.â
âAnother one?â
âYup.â
â
Light walked shoulder to shoulder with his friend. He looked at his phone the entire time. His friend purposely kept bumping into him.
âStop.â
âPay attention to where you're walking.â
Light sucked his teeth pushing his phone in his pocket.â
âYou still have that headache?â His friend asked.
âYup.â
âHow long has it been now?â
âThree weeks.â But that was a lie. Itâs been months on and off. He just finally decided to say something.
âYou should get that checked out.â
âYea I know.â
His friend bumped into him again. âYou still coming tomorrow night?â
âIf I have to.â
âYou have to.â
âThen ill be there.â
The friendâs phone rang. It was his girlfriend. He talked to her for the rest of the way home.
Light pulled out another cigarette. He didn't light it right away, he just put it between his teeth a few times and bit down. Stupid. He pulled out a lighter and lit it.
â
The next day, Light was back at the bar. His head still pounding. It was almost closing time so the music was slower. The stream of lights moved quickly across his face. He rubbed his temples . Chugging the rest of his beer. He tapped the bar to signal his friend.
âIm going out for a smoke.â
His friend casually nodded. Moving to serve the next person.
Light stepped outside. Leaning against the wall. The night sky was clear, but the temperature for the last few days hadnât broken. Sirens and people laughing passed him in waves. He tried to ignore it.
Click.
The door to the bar opened. He didn't look up. He braced himself for it to slam shut. But it closed softly. He looked over at the person standing by the door exhaling.
Ryuzaki looked at him and nodded. âSmoke break.â
âI thought you didn't smoke.â
Ryuzaki pulled out a cigarette and put it to his lips. Just biting down on it.
âI can't tell them that. How else am I supposed to get out of there.â he laughed, but it wasnât really funny.
Click.
The door opened again. Ryuzaki reached for it, but before he could grab it, it slammed shut.
Light sighed, rubbing the side of his head.
âHeadache?â
âYeah. Itâs just too loud.â
âWhy donât you leave then?â
âIm waiting for a friend.â
Why didnât he leave? He could always come back. But if he stayed back at their apartment heâd have to be there alone.
âYou waited yesterday too.â
âMm.â
Ryuzaki didn't say anything after that. He just bit down on the tip of his unlit cigarette before turning to leave.
The door closed softly.
â
Light stayed outside the bar for the remaining hour and a half. The crowd of people left in waves before the staff started exiting. Light was sitting on the ground by the time his friend came out.
His friend tapped Light's shoe with his foot. âYou never came back in.â
âToo loud.â
âI suppose you're not going to the after party with me?â
Light rolled his eyes. âYou said youâd go straight home today.â
âWhat does it matter? Youâre not tired are you?â
âWhere is it?â
âOne of the crew members' house. He has a condo with a balcony.â
âFine.â Light stubbed out his cigarette and stood.
â
The taxi ride over wasnât long. Light stared out the window as lights outside glared. The sound of his friend talking with someone they shared the taxi with started to fade. Well, at least to him.
His friend tapped him. âRight Light?â
âYea.â
He wasnât actually listening though. His mind drifted. For a moment he thought of a world free from harm, he thought of a world where he had value and could do good for people. His mind softened and for a moment his headache was gone.
The taxi stopped. And the jerk of the vehicle brought him back.
âLight weâre here.â
â
You could hear the music from outside the door. When it opened Light clenched his teeth. The music was too loud. His friend looked back. âyou okay?â
He nodded pulling out earplugs, putting them in.
The condo was dimly lit with strobe lights off to the corner. Light squeezed through a couple making out, heading towards the kitchen.
The kitchen wasnât as loud. He grabbed a cup filling it with whatever was in the drink bowl. He looked around, his friend already found someone new to talk to.
âWhoâs house is this again?â Light shouted over the music.
âOne of the band members I think.â
Light nodded, taking a sip of his drink.
He stood awkwardly at the island as his friend chatted with other people. He could still feel the vibrations of the music. Mixed with the beer from earlier and his empty stomach, his head started to hurt.
He looked at his friend, then started to leave the kitchen.
âWhere are you going?â
âBathroom.â
Past the crowded stairs, and down the hall, Light found his way into an empty bedroom. Once the door shut he could barely hear the music. The room was dimly lit. Neat. Like it was hardly lived in.
He sat down at the edge of the bed. Popping out the ear plugs, pulling out his phone. He exhaled slowly. He was only on it for a second, but he was already bored.
He swiped over to the news app to see if there was any update on the case. There wasnât. He plopped down on the bed, pulling out a cigarette. He didn't light it, he just put it between his teeth. He looked over the room. Although it didn't look lived in, there were tells that it was occupied. Shoes by the door. Charger in the wall. Pens at the desk.
Light chewed on the tip a little more. âBoreddâŚâ
The door to the room opened. Light didn't budge, he sat up on his elbows, staring at the person that walked in.
Ryuzaki stood there. He looked at Light, then at the orange ear buds beside him.
Ryuzaki raised a brow.âToo loud?â
âYea a little.â
âWhy not just leave?â
âIm waiting for my friend.â
âMm.â
Light looked at Ryuzaki. He hadnât knocked before he came in. âIs this your room?â
âMmhm.â Ryuzaki walked over to the bed, pulling out a lighter. He leaned over, softly tapping Lightâs knee. âYou need a light? You can smoke on the balcony.â
âOh no.â Light quickly took the cigarette from his mouth, placing it back in the box.
The door to the balcony was cracked. Some of the people on the lower level started cheering.
Light winced. He could feel his head starting to pound again. He rubbed his temples.
Ryuzaki walked over to the balcony door and shut it. âYou still have a headache?â
âYeah.â
âYou took anything for it?â
âNothing helps.â
Light stood rubbing the edges of his temples. âIm gonna leave.â Ryuzaki reached for his wrist. It was quickly yanked back.
Ryuzaki apologized. âSorry.â
âItâs okay, it just caught me off guard.â
âLet me take you homeâ
Light rubbed his wrist, before nodding. âOkay.â He was ready to go anyway.
Downstairs , Light found his friend.
He was currently making out with his girlfriend who showed up late.
Light tapped his shoulder. âHey I'm leaving.â
He looked at Light, then at the band manager swirling his keys in his hand.
His friend raised a brow. âOkay. See you back at the apartment.â
â
The car ride was quiet. The music set to low. Ryuzaki fingers tapped against the steering wheel at a red light.
Light sat with his legs pressed together holding his wrist. His head leaned against the window, waiting for the light to change. When it did, he noticed the car didn't move right away, he shifted his gaze towards the driver seat, Ryuzaki was looking at him.
âSorry.â He mumbled , pressing on the gas and pulling off.
Light didn't say anything. The urge to smoke, to scream, toâ
his head was throbbing. He watched as the lights blurred from outside
âDo you always wait for your friend?â Ryuzakiâs low tone cut through the silence.
âMmhm.â
âHow come ?â
Ryuzaki paused when the answer didn't come right away. âI'm sorry that's none of my business.â
Light answered anyway. âI don't have anything better to do I guess.â
âMm.â Ryuzaki hummed. Something he could understand.
âWhat do you do for work?â
âCyber security.â
âReally. That sounds cool.â
âIt's not. It's predictable and boring.â Light turned his head to face Ryuzaki. His fingers were slightly wrapped around the steering wheel, the veins in his hand protruded. His wrist was slim, covered in vertical scars.
Light swallowed hard, shifting his attention back outside the window.
âIf it's boring, why do you still do it?â
Light didn't respond to that, he just continued to stare out the window. Ryuzaki didn't press for an answer.
When they arrived at the familiar street, Light insisted on getting out at the corner.
âYou sure here is fine? I can take you all the way.â
âItâs fine, thank you.â
âOkay see you around.â
Light walked slowly down the street until the lights to Ryuzakiâs car werenât visible anymore.
He stopped at the steps to his apartment, pulling out a cigarette. He pressed it between his lips, biting down. He hesitated, then reached into his pocket for a lighter and lit it.
â
When Light finally came back in, he stood in his small bathroom that he shared with another person. He was at the sink for too long. There was a box in the cabinet mirror. He reached for it. His hand shook a little before he reached inside, pulling out a razor. There was a trace of resistance, but he still pressed it against his old scars. He inhaled, applying pressure to his skin. When he exhaled, blood dripped down his wrist into the sink. He ran the razor across his skin again. The second time didn't hurt as much.
When he left the bathroom he sat at his desk , opening his laptop. He signed into his job portal and started logging in codes. His wrist wrapped in white gauze.
It was six in the morning when his friend finally came home. He stumbled to the bathroom. There was brief hesitation before he came back out, knocking on Lightâs door. He didn't bother waiting for a response. He was invasive like that.
Light hadn't gone to bed yet. He stared at his phone, unlit cigarette between his teeth.
His friend opened the door.
âCome in I guessâ
His friend saw the gauze around his wrist, but before that, he noticed the box that hadnât been touched in a week, facing a different direction.
âStop cutting yourself.â He said as he walked over to Light. Checking to see if he bandaged himself properly.
âLeave me alone.â
âIf you wanted me to leave you alone, you wouldâve done a better job at hiding it.â
Light sucked his teeth.
âSeriously if you're this bored, why don't you just get a boyfriend.â
âShut up.â
His friend sat at the edge of the bed inspecting his wrist. âwhat up with the band manager?â
Light continued to stare at his phone. âNothing's up with him.â He paused. âI don't even think he's gay.â
His friend laughed, getting up to leave. âTo be the smartest person I know, you sure are blind.â
The door shut after that. Light turned to his side to face the window. He pressed down on his wrist until it stung. Then drifted off to sleep.
In that two bedroom apartment, morning came through. The sun shined brighter, dimmed by the blackout curtains. The streets outside were alive, dulled by the sound of night life sleepers.
â
By the time Light woke up, it was already three in the afternoon. He woke to the sound of pots clanking. He walked into the kitchen, rubbing his temples. âYou're loud.â
âAnd you're crankyâ
Light reached for the pot of coffee. He poured it into the first cup he saw. Drank it black.
âYou coming to work with me tonight?â His friend asked.
I don't know. I have some work to finish tonight. So weâll see.â
âOkay. Here.â His friend slid a plate of food over. âEat. That's probably why you still have a headache.â
Light leaned against the counter, blowing on his coffee before sipping it. âNot hungry.â
âwell at least try to eat.â His friend took a piece of toast off his plate, shoving it to his lips.
Light took a bite just to get him to stop . âHappy now?â
âNope. But what can I do? I have a few things to do before work, so I won't see you until later.â
His friend wiped his hands on a napkin. âLet me know if you're coming to the bar tonight.â
ââŚKay.â
â
Light sat at his desk tracking patterns and checking for breeches. He stared at the screen for a while. When nothing changed he reached over, grabbing a cigarette, placing it between his teeth.
He opened his phone and saw his friend posted pictures from last night. He swiped through the slides.
There was a picture of him in it. He sucked his teeth âWhen did he take this?â
He moved to the next slide. His friend was chugging a beer. Light rolled his eyes.
When he got to the last slide, it was a photo of Ryuzaki.
He was sitting on the counter, toasting a red cup into the air. He had an unlit cigarette between his lips. He looked caught off guard, but he looked happy. Light furrowed his brows.
He zoomed in on the picture, over to his wrist. They were barely visible, but there were scars there. So I hadnât imagined that.
He zoomed back out. Looking at the caption.
â thanks for the amazing after partyâ
Everyone in the pictures was tagged. One of them stood out. @r.minor_
Light clicked on it. It was Ryuzakiâs page. There were only two posts.
One was of Ryuzaki. It was from a few years ago. He was holding a bass. His face was cut out of it. Black nail polish, rings on every finger.
The caption: I tuned my guitar to match my mood.
Light zoomed in on his wrist again. Same scars, but they were new.
He clicked on the next post. It was a video. He was at the ocean. The sun had already set. There was a faint reflection of the moon. You could hear the waves softly crashing against each other.
The caption titled: void.
A song played over the video. The personâs voice was low and raspy. They sung slow, almost in sync with the waves.
I don't cry anymore
Itâs much more quieter now
The feeling of constantly fading
Deep within the ocean I drown
Light could feel his pulse skip. He blinked a few times, clicking on the comments.
-Ryu so sad, but so good.
-Sad people make great music
- fire emoji
-Drop the full song
Light clicked out of his profile. He sat his phone down and reached for the lighter. He switched back over to his computer rechecking for breeches. He found nothing of course.
For a moment it was quiet. There was a slight pain in his head. He stared at the screen until the images blurred. He could hear the faint hum of his computer and the slow drag of that finally lit cigarette, but that was it.
Ping.
The sound of his phone shook him out of deep thought. He didn't check it right away. Then it pinged again. He rolled his eyes, picking it up.
When he looked at it, he had two new notifications.
r.minor_ followed you
r.minor_ liked your photo
Light clicked on the photo he liked. It was a selfie from a few weeks ago. He was laying in bed. The sun shining across his face. Beaming down, making his hair seem more brown than it was. His hand was covering his eyes and there was a faint smile on his face. It was posted around 3pm.
the caption: Good morning night life people.
He remembered the exact moment he took that photo. After he posted it, he went to the bathroom and put two more slits in his wrist.
There was something in how ignorant people were. Theyâd comment and say you look so happy, never knowing how you actually feel in that moment.
He clicked off the photo of himself, then back into Ryuzakiâs profile, pressing follow without a second thought.
â
Light decided to stop pass the bar that night. He got there after midnight.
All the bands were done performing and the DJ was playing music. He sat down at the bar, waiting.
When his friend looked up, he rolled his eyes. âI told you to text meâ he sat a beer in front of Light.
He popped the lid open. âI forgot.â
His friend rolled his eyes. âNow you have to go home on your own. I'm leaving early to meet my girl.â
Light took a sip of his beer. âOkayâŚI'm not a child.â
âDid you take a nap? Youâre so cranky.â
Light didnât respond.
His friend walked off to serve another guest.
â
Light was sipping his beer when he saw Ryuzaki out the corner of his eye.
Ryuzaki sat beside him. He looked at the drink in Lightâs hand, then at the bandage around his wrist.
Light noticed. He didn't say anything. He didn't shift. He just took another sip of his beer.
His gaze shifted to Light's eyes now. âI didn't think you were coming tonight.â
âI wasnât.â
Ryuzaki looked back at his wrist. âYou're hurt. Your job that dangerous?â
It was a joke. A bad one. But a joke nonetheless.
âOhâŚI hurt myself cooking earlier.â
Lie.
âMmâ Ryuzaki didn't probe. He saw the picture earlier. It might not have been obvious to everyone else, but he saw the impressions on his wrist.
The music boomed between them. Making the silence more obvious. Light rubbed his head, taking another sip of his beer.
âAnother headache?â
âSame headache.â
When his friend saw Light talking to someone he came over.
His hands slammed hard against the bar top âBand manager!.â
âYou know my names Ryuzaki rightâ
âI know, but I like the sound of band manager.â He slid Ryuzaki a beer.
âBand managerâŚcan I inconvenience you for a bitâ
Ryuzaki hummed, taking a sip of the beer.
Light rolled his eyes.
âI left my work phone at your house yesterday. Can you pleasee take my very cranky friend here back to your place to get it? Heâll find his own way home.â
Light stopped drinking. The beer left in his mouth went down hard. He looked at his friend with disgust. Then to Ryuzaki.
âYou don't have toââ
but before he could finish, Ryuzaki was already agreeing to it.
âThank you so much band manager.â
A customer tapped on the bar.
âOk gotta serve.â His friend walked off without a second thought.
For some reason the music didn't feel as loud anymore. It was quiet between them like something was supposed to be said. Light didn't speak, he just continued to drink his beer. Swallowing the urge to jumper over the bar and strangle his friend.
âAre you staying long?â Ryuzaki asked, deciding to break the silence.
âIll leave when you're ready.â
âI don't have to take the guys tonight so we can go now.â
âOkayâ
Light finished off the rest of his drink before following a few paces behind him.
â
Light didn't really get a chance to see the condo for what it was the night before. It was dimly lit with too many people packed in.
This time, with the lights on, he was slightly surprised.
The walls were all white, the furniture a different shade of white. Nothing out of place, like he didn't just have more than twenty people here the day before.
Light walked toward the kitchen, where his friend spent most of the night. He slid his finger across the marble island. âdo you really live here?â
Ryuzaki chuckled. âWhy is it that bad?â
âI just thought it would be different.â
Ryuzaki started looking for the phone âDark and gloomy?â
Light smiled faintly âExactly that.â
âWell my studio is where the darkness really excels.â
âYou make music?â He asked like he didn't already know the answer.
âMmâŚâ Ryuzaki looked around some more. âDid he say where the phone was?â
âLet me call.â
His friend picked up on the fist ring. He was still at the bar. The music echoed through the phone.
âWhereâd you last see your phone?â
âHold on Iâll call it.ââ
The call went silent for a second then Light's phone buzzed in his hand.
Text message: Friend(work phone) : get laid, it'll help with the headaches.
At the time Ryuzaki was still looking through the drawers.
The music sounded back through the phone. âSorry Lightââ
Light hung the phone up.
Ryuzaki noticed he was staring at his phone quietly. âwhat did he say?â
âItâs dead.â
âOhâŚâ
Neither of them spoke, like they both understood what position this so-called friend placed them in.
Light rubbed his temples. Getting ready to leave.
âIf your head still hurts, I have a remedy for that.
Light hesitated for a moment, then sat down at the island. âTry your luck.â
â
Ryuzaki stood at the counter chopping various fruits around the kitchen.
Light watched from the island.
Ryuzakiâs back was turned to him. His shoulders were broad. But he was on the slimmer side.
Light had his hand under his chin. Listening to sound the knife made against the cutting board. For a second it calmed him. Slow even strokes every time the knife slammed down. He could feel his breathing slowing. He hadnât gotten proper sleep in days. His eyes drifted closed.
Just for a second, the throbbing in his head stopped.
Ryuzaki tapped his shoulder. âIm gonna turn the blender on. Do you want ear plugs?â
Light opened his eyes. Ryuzaki was too close. His shirt hung low in the front. Adam's apple bulged out. The chain around his neck, swinging as he waited for Light to answer.
âOh⌠No, it's fine.â
The blender turned on, then off not much later. A glass was placed in front of Light. Ryuzaki leaned against the counter waiting.
Light took a sip.
âHow is it?â
âNot bad.â
Ryuzaki chuckled. Accepting that as a win.
Silence settled between them. Ryuzaki watched as Light finished the smoothie. His throat bobbing after each swallow. When he locked eyes with Light, he realized he mightâve stared too long. He went to the sink, to wash the blender. He put his hand under the water until it ran hot. âWhat do you usually do for fun?â
Light took another sip of the smoothie. âYouâre looking at it.â
Ryuzaki snickered. Turning the water off. âSo then do you wanna watch a movie?â
Thump. Thump. Light swallowed the sound of his pounding heart. âSure.â
â
They settled on a scary movie. Something about having a contest to guess the plot. But that was short lived when Ryuzaki heard the faint sound of breathing. He looked over. Light had already fallen asleep only after a few minutes.
Ryuzaki stood, grabbing a nearby blanket.
When he went to put the blanket over Light, he noticed his bandage was leaking. He went to the kitchen to grab the first aid kit. Light didn't budge not once. Not when he unraveled the bandage and saw the scars. Not when Ryuzaki rubbed his thumb over them to apply ointment âbut really to check how deep they were.
When Ryuzaki was done, he put the blanket on Light. He stood over him, watching. He reached into his pocket to put a cigarette between his teeth. He didn't light it. It hung freely as he stared at the rise and fall of his chest.
Light shifted a little, rubbing his nose then drifted back to sleep.
Ryuzaki smiled faintly, leaning down to move the hair from Lightâs face. The tips of his fingers leaving a lingering heat as he moved to brush the hair to the side. Hm.
â
Light woke on his own. The sun shining bright on his face. He turned over, not really knowing where he was. His eyes were still pressed shut. He felt pressure around his wrist. When looked down. His bandage was new. Wrapped tight and neat around his wrist. His pulse spiked. He sat up, realizing where he was. Right.
He took the blanket off and stood. He tapped his pocket, his phone was there. When he headed to the door Ryuzaki stepped out the kitchen.
âYouâre leaving?â He was holding two cups of coffee.
ââŚyeah.â
Light walked to the door. Sliding his feet in his shoes.
Ryuzaki sat the cups down. âLet me take you.â
âNo. Itâs fine.â
âOkay. See youââ The door shut.
â
When Light got to his apartment, his friend was already sitting at the table eating lunch.
âHeyyy! Youâre finally home.â
Loud. Light subconsciously rubbed his head. But the throbbing was gone.
âWas it that good?â His friend continued to pester. âYouâve been gone for two days.â
Two days. Light reached for his phone. It was dead. He didn't respond to his friend, he just shut the door to his room. Plopping down on his bed.
Two days. I slept for two days. He reached over to put his phone on the charger, remembering that he had work today.
He sat up, rubbing his head again. It still didn't hurt.
He went to his desk flipping open his laptop, checking the date. It really had been two days.
The pounding in his chest was back. He looked down at his wrist, at the new bandage. He sucked his teeth. Reaching for a cigarette.
He put it between his lips. He typed a few things into his computer. Then reached for the lighter. He flicked it open, then closed. He looked back at his screen. Completing a few tickets that were in the system. He took the cigarette out his mouth, putting it back in the box.
Once he finished the work that piled up the last few days. He laid back in his bed. The sun was setting. He looked at his phone. He had two missed calls from his friend. And two new notifications:
Don't be mad at me
I know you're having fun but you can at least answer.
Light rolled his eyes.
He went to his social to check the notifications.
Nothing.
His fingers subconsciously went to check Ryuzaki's profile. There was a new post.
It was a photo. Two cups of coffee, one empty one full.
Caption: breakfast
A sad song played over it. But Light didn't know it.
His pulse quickened.
He clicked on the comments. There were only a few.
-Ryu you have to actually eat breakfast
-who broke youâre heart man
Ryuzaki liked the last comment.
Light threw his phone to the side. His head didn't hurt. He could finally think, but now he didn't want to.
Lightâs room darkened with just the street light shining through. He heard his friend leaving for work. He didn't go to the bar tonight. He didn't log back into work. This was the first night in a while he could just go to sleep. But his mind was too awake. The sound of his stomach forced him to go to the kitchen to make something to eat.
â
When he went to the kitchen, there was already a plate of food at the table.
The note said: eat up heart breaker :)
Light rolled his eyes. Sitting down at the table to eat. It was rice and beef. He took a biteâthen smiled. He forgot how well his friend cooks.
He opened the news app while he was eating. Reading through the recent events. Same terrible shit as always. He sucked his teeth.
At that moment, a notification appeared at the top of the screen.
r.minor_sent you a message.
Light opened it.
r.minor_: how's your head?
Light waited a few minutes before responding.
_akira_: It's fine.
r.minor_: are you coming to the bar tonight?
_akira_: no,, too sleepy
r.minor_: you didn't get enough sleep?
Light gripped the edges of his phone. His chest tightened.
Fuck you Ryuzaki.
He chose not to respond. He leaned back in his chair, thought about it for a second, then sent another message.
thanks.
Ryuzaki didn't respond to that. He was backstage. His band was next to go on. Intermission music sounded in the background. He smiled at his phone screen, unlit cigarette between his teeth.
â
The next day Light woke with a slamming headache. There was ringing in his ears. Even with the blackout curtains, the sun still found its way in. He sat up, looked at his phone. It was 2pm.
Ugh. He plopped back down on his bed. He reached under his mattress grabbing the razor under his bed. He held it to his wrist but hesitated. Why does my head hurt so bad? He threw the razor against the wall. Rubbing his temples. He reached for his phone, texting his friend.
medicine ASAP!
Within seconds he was coming down the hall, handing Light the medicine.
âI thought you said it doesn't work.â
âIt doesn't.â Light took the medicine from him, taking a higher dose than necessary.
His friend looked worried. âWerenât you fine yesterday? Just do that againâ
âCanât.â
âWhy not?â
âBand managerâŚmade me a smoothie.â Light winced through his words. âGet out please.â
âUngrateful.â His friend left, pulling out his phone. Slamming the door on purpose.
Ugh.
When an hour had passed and the pain in Lightâs head hadn't dulled, he battled asking Ryuzaki for the ingredients to the smoothie. His fingers hovered over the message box, typing out messages then deleting them. Coward.
When he finally found the courage to send something. A message slid down from the top of the screen
r.minor_ sent you a message.
Come over.
That was it. Light rolled his eyes. Who does he think he's talking to? He wanted to send that back, but his head hurt too much. He typed out okay, tossing his phone to the side. He sat up, dragging himself out of bed, mumbling under his breath as he got dressed.
â
Light caught a taxi ride over. He wore dark sunglasses to cover his eyes. He stood at the entrance to Ryuzaki place, hesitating to knock. Why did I come here?
When he turned to leave, the front door opened.
Ryuzaki was leaning against the door frame. âLeaving?â
Light turned slowly. âNo.â
He gestured for Light to come in.
He did. Sliding his shoes off by the door and going to sit down.
Ryuzaki walked past him to the kitchen. He didn't say a word.
The living room lights were low. Light took his glasses off, swallowing, bracing himself to ask if he could make the smoothie again. âHey Ryuââ
The sound of the blender turned on. Light eyes twitched. His voice stuck in his throat.
When it went off, Ryuzaki came from the kitchen, placing a cup in front of him. Light didn't say anything.
Ryuzaki sat in the seat across from him. He leaned back with his legs crossed. He bit down on the tip of his finger. There was a faint smile on his face.
Was this funny to him?
Light sucked his teeth. Reaching for the smoothie.
Ryuzaki watched him. Every sip, every gulpâhis eyes stayed locked on Light. Right up until the drink was empty.
Light didn't say anything the entire time. He nervously kept looking at Ryuzaki, then back down at his drink.
When it was done, Ryuzaki stood. He reached his hand out for the cup. Light gave it to him.
âTry to get some sleep. I have to do some work in my studio. I'll come back to check on you.â
Light didn't even get a chance to answer. Ryuzaki was already walking away.
He leaned back on the couch. Why would I willing go to sleep here?
He wanted a cigarette, he pulled out his phone instead? Scrolling through it until he got bored.
â
It was 10 pm when Light finally woke up. He was rubbing his eyes. When he looked over. Ryuzaki was sitting on the couch across from him, legs crossed, reading a book.
âHow many days?â
Ryuzaki closed his book. âJust six hours.â
Light reached up stretching. His shirt lifted slightly.
Ryuzaki bit down on his bottom lip. âItâs late. You should stay and try to get more sleep. I'll make you another smoothie before you leave.â
But Light was already standing to leave. âNo thanks.â
Ryuzaki reached for his wrist. This time, Light didn't have enough time to pull back.
Ryzakiâs grip tightened, then loosedâjust enough to run his finger over the slits on Light's wrist. âYou should stay.â
Light chest tightened, his face flushed red. A tingling sensation ran through his body. His words came broken. âW-why?â
Ryuzaki pulled him in closer. His grip around his wrist tightened again. His warm breath sending heat to the pit of Lightâs stomach. âI thought I made it obvious.â
His eyes widened. He turned his face away from Ryuzakiâs piercing gaze.
âI guess I have to be more direct with you.â Ryuzakiâs freehand reached up to brush the hair blocking Lightâs face. He tipped his chin up, placing a soft kiss to his neck. âI want to take care of you.â His lips were warm against Light's skin.
He shuddered through the heat rolling through his body. For a second he couldn't move.
Ryuzaki whispered into his neck. âWill you let me?â
Light stood in place for too long. Face bright red. Nodding.
â
Ryuzaki sat at the desk in his room waiting for Light.
When he stepped out the shower, he didn't move right away. He awkwardly stood by the bed, wrapped in a white robe, deciding what to do next.
It wasnât his first time, but has has been a while.
âTake off your robe and sit on the bed.â Ryuzaki didn't even look up from his book when he gave the orders.
Light sucked his teeth, but his hands moved to slide the rob off, down onto the floor.
the book Ryuzaki was holding finally closed. He placed it down, walking over to Light.
He stood over him. Watching as Light lay naked in the middle of his bed. He leaned down and reached for Lightâs arm.
Light wanted to pull away, but he didnât. He just let Ryuzaki place soft kisses on the lines on his wrist.
The marks were the same as the last time.
âYou havenât cut yourself again.â Ryuzaki whispered into his wrist.
Light sucked his teeth, turning his head away. âWhat does it matter to you. You cut yourself too.â
Ryuzaki smiled, pressing his lips to his wrist again.
He shuddered at the sensation blooming through his body.
âI know, but I have self control. Where as youâŚâ Ryuzaki paused, moving his lips higher up Light's arm. ââŚyouâre too impulsive.â
Light sucked his teeth, pushing out his lips. But that didnât stop Ryuzaki. He moved higher, now at his shoulders. Following the vines in his skin with his lips.
Light twitched under him. Under the soft press against his skin.
âWhy do you think I havenât been fucked you? Hm?â Ryuzaki was at his nipples now. Slowly dragging his tongue over the peak. Kissing and nipping. Bruising that beautiful pale skin with red blemishes. âWhen I found you in my roomâŚâ his mouth dragged lower. âI couldâve fucked you right then and there and you wouldnât have done anything to stop me.â
Light shuddered at those words, covering his mouth to block the moans from slipping out.
âThe problem with you isâŚâ Ryuzaki kissed down his torso.
The sides of Lightâs body sank the lower he moved.
Ryuzaki whispered into his belly button. âYou need to be told what to do.â His tongue moved, dragging lower, down into his thighs. Light wanted to tell him to shut up, but nothing came out.
Ryuzaki kissed down his legs, landing at his feet. âLet me tell you what to do.â
He paused, leaving space for Light to respond despite already knowing the answer. He pressed soft kisses at his feet while he waited. âLet me take care of you.â
Light didn't say anything, the back of his hand still covered his mouth. His chest rose and fell too hard. He stared at Ryuzaki. He was serious. Why was everything telling him to say yes.
His words were trapped in his throat. All he could do was nod.
Heat surged through Ryuzaki. He moved Light's hand from his mouth, leaning in to kiss those beautiful thin lips. He bit down hard, dragging his teeth slowly across the bottom lip, before he kissed Light once more. âGood.â
Ryuzaki lifted Lightâs legs up, exposing the beautiful line from the tip of his toes, to the curve of his ass. Damn heâs so beautiful.
His legs were spread wide open. His cock twitched in response.
Light's face was turned, he couldn't watch. His mind was clear, but his head felt hot.
His body shuddered as Ryuzaki peppered the inside of his thigh with kisses. Soft supple movements sending chills down his spine.
Spit slid down his entrance and he immediately turned to face Ryuzaki.
Ryuzaki watched him, smiling as heat surged through his body. He pressed a thumb to Lightâs entrance, gently smoothing the saliva over it, then pressing his thumb in.
âLet me guessâŚâ His thumb went in deeper. âYou like it rough?â
Light didn't say anything. His heart was beating too quick. He held his breath. His teeth clenched as bit back every curse word he wanted to say.
When his thumb popped out, Lightâs beautiful pink hole clenched a few times in response.
Ryuzaki smirked, "Don't worry. Im about to fill you back up.â
âShut up.â Light said through clenched breaths.
Ryuzaki laughed. Reaching for the lube. He spread it around his cock until the entire length was greased. He stroked himself a few times, smiling as Light watched.
He lined himself up, circling the tip of his cock around his soft pink hole. He pushed in slowly.
Lightâs legs were still up, knees pressed together now. Wincing at the intrusion.
Ryuzaki pressed in a little more. Only the head was in. He pressed a kiss to Lightâs calf as he breathed in the scent of his own shower gel. âRelax.â
âImâŚtrying.â He bit down on his words, but his ass just kept clenching around the thickness.
Ryuzaki slid in more, slower, deeper. Steadying his breath as he slid through the tightness, at pulsing around his cock, at the desire pin him down, and fuck him so.damn.hard.
He exhaled through his nose. Pushing in more, until his thickness sank entirely into Light. Mnf.
He didn't wait for Light to adjust. He just kissed his calf again and slowly started moving. Small shallow thrusts . Easing his cock in and out of that tight hole. Rocking into him.
Slowly dragging his cock back and forth, because that was just how he liked it. Chills ran through his body, but he kept his strokes consistent. Eyes open. He wanted this so bad.
And Light just laid there. Eyes locked on how Ryuzaki fucked him. How he smiled when he pulled back and bit down on his lip when he sank in deeper. Lightâs breathing was slow. There was fluttering in his stomach. He couldnât ignore it. His grip around Ryuzakiâs cock tightened.
Ryuzaki pulled almost all the way out, so slow, so teasinglyâjust leaving the tip in. He couldnât help but admire how beautiful Light looked beneath him. How he kept wincing, stifling his moans as his asshole clenched for anything. He was going to take really good care of him.
The distance between them deepened. Ryuzaki's hands moved to Light's waist, lifting him off the bed. âIs your headache gone?â
Light nodded, bracing himself.
He kissed Lights legs that were on his shoulder. âThatâs good. Now I can fuck you the way you want.â
âShutââ but before Light could finish, Ryuzaki was already thrusting into him. Hard and deep, past his prostate, to a place only Ryuzaki could reach. Marking the depths of his hole with the tip of his cock.
Then slower, more steady. Just to rub the ridges of his tip past Lightâs sweet spot. Just to feel the sensation Lightâs body made every time he passed it.
And Light happily accepted the gesture. Waves of electricity ran through his body as he gripped the bedding beneath him.
Ryuzaki looked down at his cock sliding in and out. Light was clenching, sucking him in deep. He held back his moans, but his body happily fell in sync as Ryuzaki continuously pulled him back on his cock. And the twitching around his cockâ
âNot yet.â Ryuzaki muttered through panted breaths.
But Light could already feel his body heating up. His orgasm on the cusp of breaking. Itâs been too long and the pleasureâthe pain. He couldn't hold back.
âMnfâŚI canâtâŚâ He pushed out through choked moans. Through sudden ache beneath his ribs.
Ryuzaki slammed into him a few more times. Each stroke deliberately angled to hit that spot. Just to push Light closer to the edge. Shit. To push himself closer. Heat growing deep in his pelvis.
He pulled out. And Light almost whined at the loss. At the sudden emptiness. At being so damn close. His brows furrowed as he tried to control his breathing.
And Ryuzaki smiled. Turning Light onto his stomach, exposing the beautiful arch in his back.
Light didn't say anything. Not when he turned him over. Not when he smacked his ass so hard the stinging made his cock twitch. But when Ryuzaki circled the tip of his cock over his entrance, over and over. Just teasing, just watching Lightâs hole begging to be filled he couldn't help but whine. âStop teasing. Just put itââ
Before Light could finish, Ryuzaki was already slamming into him.
Light threw his head back. His moans stuck deep in his throat at the sudden pounding. Ryuzaki was too deep. Chill ran through his body even as heat blurred his vision.
But it wasnât deep enough for Ryuzaki; he could go deeper. He wanted toâneeded to. So he did. Each thrust pushing further and further until Light could feel it in his stomach.
âAhâŚâ he managed to let slip, as tears formed in the corner of his eyes. âIt's tooâŚdeep.â
But it was just right for Ryuzaki. His entire length within the depth of that tight hole. It molded to him perfectly. So much so, he could no longer control the growing urge to mark him. To own him. To lock him up and never let him leave.
He looked down at Light. At how he happily took his cock. At how pale his skin was. He leaned over, brushing the damp strands of hair from the back of Lights neck. He kissed it. Then pushed into him deeper.
Light nearly cracked under the pressure. Moaning into the mattress. Eyes in the back of his head. He was there. A ripple of heat so close to burning him alive.
Ryuzaki kissed the back of his neck again. Which only intensified that heat.
His teeth went in next. They sank deep, piercing the skin. Blood trickled out, which only made Ryuzaki want to do it again. So he did. Lower, on his shoulder. Breaking the skin again. Still thrusting into him.
âAhhâŚngh...â The second bite was all Light could take. The heat in his gut burst. His vision blurred. Everything spilling out of him. Tears, moans, come. The sudden explosion of emotions caused his body to spasm.
His legs shook uncontrollably. Even as Ryuzaki continued to pound into him. Light's spasming body only intensified his peak. He slammed into again, until he could no longer hold back. His cock twitched, pulsing, trying to hold back. If only for a minute. But it was no use.
He breathed into the back of Light's neck. Into the stinging of the mark he left on him. ââŚcan I come insideâŚ?â
Light didn't answer. His teeth deep in his bottom lip, still shuddering through his orgasm.
ââŚShitâ It was too late. Ryuzaki was already coming. His cock pulsing as it spilled thick beads of come inside that hole. He continued to rock into him. Slowing his pace as his orgasm slowed.
When he pulled out, he flipped Light back over to his back. His face red, lips brushed. Damp hair clinging to his face. Damn.
He leaned in past Lightâs beautiful wrecked face, close to his ear. His body still trembled.
Ryuzaki whispered, "I'm not done with you just yet.â
Lightâs breath hitched. His mouth opened, but Ryuzaki was already placing a kiss on his lips.
Stealing whatever breath he had left. Whatever words he wanted to spill.
When Ryuzaki pulled back, he was already lining his still hard cock against the entrance. Pushing deep past the stick mess leaking out.
âLet me make you feel better.â
Through panted breaths, through the chilling sensation rolling through his bodyâLight nodded.
â
Light had slept for almost a whole day. He sat up, remembering what just happened. How many times did I pass out?
His body shivered at the thought. His cheeks dusting pink. He ran his finger through his hair as he reached for his phone. What time is it?
He looked at his phone. Only one notification.
Friend : Enjoy your smoothie ;)
Light sucked his teeth. Tossing his phone to the side. He pulled the blanket off his bodyânaked. Great.
He tried to sit up, but the weight of his body pulled him back down.
Ryuzaki watched him from the door. He looked so beautiful sitting in the middle of his bed, covered in his teeth marks, pathetically trying to get up.
âYou shouldnât try to get up just yet.â
Light looked over, Ryuzaki was carrying a smoothie and a cup of coffee. He didn't have a shirt on. His pants hung low on his waist and you could see a faint impression of his cock. His face turned redder than it already was.
Ryuzaki leaned over, placing his hand to Light's head. âYou're red, I hope you donât have a fever.â
Light pushed his hand away. âI don't.â
Ryuzaki put it back. âKeep still.â
Light did.
âNo fever.â
Light wanted to say duh, but he pouted instead.
Ryuzaki reached for his jaw. He lifted it just enough to see Lightâs eyes. Then he leaned down and placed a kiss on those beautiful pouty lips. âDrink your smoothie. I'll go and make breakfast. â
ââŚâ
â
Later that day, when Light finally had enough sleep. He realized he hadnât checked in at work. He used his phone to check his emails. Someone had covered for him. He exhaled. Going to the work portal to check if there were any new assignments. There were a few. He settled them quickly.
At the time, he received a notification
r.minor_ tagged you in a post.
Light opened it. It was a photo of two empty cups. The one he had his smoothie in and the cup Ryuzaki had.
The caption: shared void.
A song played over it. It was slow. The person sang soft and low. It was Ryuzakiâs voice.
We sit side by side
Somehow we match
Deep within the void
I found my match
Light pulse spiked. He looked over at Ryuzaki. He was sitting at the desk in his room, reading a book, smiling faintly.
