Hidden Beach onĀ Marieta Islands, off the coast of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Hereās the orbital period of our solar systemās 8 major planets (how long it takes each to travel around the sun). Their size is to scale and their speed is accurate relative to Earthās. The repetition of each GIF is proportional to their orbital period. Mercury takes less than 3 months to zoom around Sol, Neptune takes nearly 165 years. Ā
Oh there you are, Neptune.

This sleeping beauty is a colugo, found in Southeast Asia. Colugos have an extension of their skin called a patagium that they use for controlled gliding from higher to lower locations in the trees.

Freezing Ocean Waves In Nantucket Are Rolling In As SlushĀ Ā
Itās so cold that the sea on the coast of Nantucket, an island on the eastern coast of the U.S., has turned into slush! Jonathan Nimerfroh, a photographer and surfer whoās āobsessedā with the ocean, snapped these beautiful shots of slushy waves rolling in to the near-frozen beach.
According to Nimerfroh, the high temperature that day had been only 19F, or -7C. It was cold enough for ice to form near the shore, but not cold enough to form solid pieces of ice, which is why the waves had to travel through a layer of slush to reach the shore. (Source)
Lavender Lemonade
4 tbsps (1/4 cup) culinary lavender*
2 cups boiling water
2/3 cup sugar
1Ā 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice (about 8 lemons)
2 cups cold water
* Culinary lavender is lavender harvested for the purposes of cooking/eating. PleaseĀ donāt buy the perfumed air-freshening kind because that is going to be utterly gross.Ā Steep the lavender in 2 cups of boiling water for 15 minutes. Strain through a fine-meshĀ sieve and discard the lavender. Place the lavender tea and the sugar in a smallĀ saucepan and set over high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves (you donāt have to putĀ it over heat, but I do this because Iām impatient and want the sugar to dissolve fasterĀ and completely). Remove from heat and let cool to warm. Stir in the lemon juice. Stir inĀ the cold water. Add more to taste. I prefer to keep mine on the concentrated sideĀ because I like to mix it with seltzer water when I serve it. Serve over ice. Makes aboutĀ 6-8 cups depending on how dilute you want it.
