Take Me As I Am

Rebecca laughed “Bullshit” she teased him, the grin remained on her face as she looked up at him “I like your hair longer” she admitted “But don’t try and tell me you don’t check yourself out..” she teased again. She wrinkled her nose up “I’m destined to be a midget while you grow and grow” she laughed “Hey… I’m tough i could hurt you” she teased, wrapping her arm around him as he pulled her closer. She smiled up at him, laughing softly as she spotted the smirk tugging at his lips. “Maybe i will..” she teased, standing on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek gently. All she had wanted for her birthday was to spend time with him, time they hadn’t had the luxury of having properly since they’d reunited. So she felt relieved that they were here now. 

Zeke rolled his eyes as she spoke. “It’s not bullshit and I totally don’t.. most of the time,” he smirkedlaughed. “Well duh, that’s just how fate works. But i’m pretty sure it’s true that people stop growing when they reach perfection, I mean it would explain a lot considering you’re so tiny. You just reached it quicker than the rest of us,” he said playfully. “I’m sure you are tough,” he laughed again, smiling even brighter as she kissed his cheek. 

Rebecca could sense the slight concern, she could feel it creeping up her body very slowly, almost torturously. Her eyes remained snapped closed until she heard silence once more. Her breathing was uneven - almost as if the empath had been running and come to a sudden stop. She knew he was trying to help her, knew he wanted to but Rebecca felt so damn helpless. She felt as if everytime something started to become good again? Something happened and it had her slipping, grasping at her sanity. As she felt the hands make contact with her own, her eyes snapped up to look at the boy in front of her - just in time to see him lean in. When she felt his lips against her own there was an odd sense of calm. everything slowed down almost enough to let her catch up with herself. She could feel it. Feel his hands, his lips,  the urgency and worry that radiated off of him. For a moment, just a moment the girl was calm. Until she realised what had been happening, that she had once again slipped a little too far.. and that zeke had, had to see it happen. She removed her hands from her ears as she felt her chest grow heavy, tears leaking from her eyes as she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling her lips gently from his. Though she tried to fight it a small sob passed her lips, hidding her face from zeke’s gaze. It was all so hard. 

When she pulled back from the kiss, Zeke opened his eyes in an attempt to see if she was okay, but before he could say anything, she let out a small sob and hid her face. The actions making his chest tighten. He rolled his lips inwards as he gently placed his hand under her chin again, tilting her head up slightly once more.  “Please don’t hide from me..” he whispered. “You’re too beautiful to hide.” he murmured. “Even when you are all teary,” he added softly, a hint of a smile pulling at his lips as he attempted to lighten the mood slightly. The blonde looked down at her with soft eyes as he gently kissed her nose. “Talk to me Becca.. what’s wrong?” 

If this had’ve been a normal situation, Rebecca probably would have been able to feel everything Zeke was feeling before her. But right now? She was already overflowing, any emotion that added to her plate? just spilt over and was left unnoticed. As she pierced her skin she begged for her body to wake up - but it seemed that she was trapped here with no escape. The thought alone made Rebecca’s eyes water with tears. She was sick of feeling like this, like she was falling apart and not being able to do anything about it. 

The more Zeke watched her, the more worried he got, especially when she pulled her hands from his. His eyes instantly flickered up to her aura, knowing instantly that whatever she was feeling wasn’t good. The colours were a dark swirling mess, but remembering she was an empath he took a deep breath and remained calm. He had spoken to Alex and Jasper a lot about empaths, trying to figure out he could help Becca whenever she needed it. He knew he could try and push calm emotions towards her, but it was a lot easier said than done. It didn’t stop him trying, but it still wasn’t easy. As she started muttering to herself, he frowned slightly. “Becca.. you’re not asleep..” he said gently, rolling his lips inwards as she didn’t respond. Literally only one idea popped into the blonde’s head, and it was probably the stupidest idea on the planet, but he didn’t have a better idea. Stepping forward slightly he reached up and placed his hands over the hands covering her ears, holding her there gently as he quickly but carefully pressed his lips against hers. 

She hadn’t seen Zeke coming, not even in the slightest. So deep in thought that it made her jump nearly a mile in the air when their bodies collided, her eyes found the boy before her, her eyes blank of expression. She slightly flinched once more as his hands landed on her shoulders. Her eyes only made contact with his for a few seconds before she dropped his gaze, taking a small half step backwards - without a second thought the short girl began to pace again, in the same place she had been before they collided, hands scratching at the skin on her forearms once more - shaking her head as she walked. “no no no” she spoke quietly to herself a few more times. Her mind was playing tricks on her -it felt like she was in a nightmarish purgatory, her brain  bringing out the people she loved to try and trick her into thinking this was all reality, when the actual reality could be.. that the girl had died on the steps of that reckless mansion. These states were the most terrifying, they overtook her body - sending her what could only be classified as semi insane. She still wasn’t sure. But she couldn’t help but feel trapped - her nails dug into her skin as she tried to feel something, anything but failed. She couldn’t feel anything physically, to the point that when her nails softly pierced her skin, nothing major of course.. but enough to cause the girl to bleed, without even realising she’d done it to herself. So focused on that simple action, pacing backwards and forwards - she continued to do so - right there before the boy she loved. The word “no” leaving her lips every so often. 

The way the girl in front of him was acting, how she so vaguely stepped away from him, how she started muttering the word no and especially when she started scratching at her arms made Zeke’s chest tighten and his stomach drop. The worry he felt was flooding through his mind, especially because he had no idea what to do in a situation like this. Stepping forward again he reached out to grab her hands gently, linking his fingers with hers in an attempt to get her to stop hurting herself.  “Rebecca.. please.. stop,” he said softly but firmly, his blue eyes bearing down at her as he hoped she would look up and make eye contact with him. Seeing her like this made him feel an ache he had never felt before, and the concern he felt was beyond stable. 

“Well you need to help it.. because it’s not fair you standing there and being all irresistable like that.” she laughed as he pouted, even if it was only brief it was cute. “Fine..” she smiled and shrugged. Even Becca was surprised at how okay she was with it. She hadn’t played in a long time but now it seemed different. Everything she was probably going to sing to him, chances are he knew about it and thats all she’d ever been scared of, expressing to him? Her feelings for him? That was what had terrfied her, she smiled wrapping her own arm around him “Maybe i can organise that..” she laughed, standing on her tip toes to kiss his cheek “I’m in love with you too.. you have no idea how much” she laughed 

Zeke raised a brow and laughed. “You’ll have to blame my mum for that- or if you ask him, Dad would say it’s all his genes, but we all know it’s mum’s,” he laughed. He smiled brightly when she agreed to singing first, walking a little bit faster so they could get to the place. He smiled as she kissed his cheek, scrunching up his face briefly before turning his face to press a kiss to the side of her forehead. “I think I have a pretty good idea,” he murmured with a gentle smile.
