the miscommunication trauma is so potent in bloodymary... at first it's probably out of fear, worrying Grace will take away everything he's been given. he is so very at Grace's mercy, and there is nothing he can do about it. and then later, when he maybe even believes that Grace wouldn't do that to him, he still does it because he Owes It to Grace... what's being uncomfortable next to that?

Grace stares down at his mug of coffee, clutched so tightly in his hands his knuckles pop white. He considers this. Turns it over in his head.
"No," he says, voice leaking horror. "I kind of think I need to."
Simon winces. Grace can see him do it out of the corner of his eye, and if Grace was a kinder person, maybe he would back off. Let Simon have this.
(he feels a little bad about it. this is, still, Simon's. but Grace didn't get a choice in this either, and the memories of it are killing him slowly)
"... it wasn't that bad," Simon says, tentatively.
"THAT WASN'T THAT BAD?"
Grace manages not to drop his mug. He manages not to shatter it on the ground, or throw it. He clutches it to his chest, and probably spills some of it down his shirt, across his hands, but at least, he doesn't break the dang thing.
"Sorry," he says through gritted teeth. "Didn't mean to- yell."
Simon looks at him like a spooked horse. Eyes wide. Shoulders to his ears. He's even crouched as if to run.
"Sorry," he repeats, and it comes out a little lighter, a little less like Grace is about to bite his face off. "It's just-"
He gestures. Doesn't know how to say a lot, without implying Simon is a lot, which is, well. True. But not a nice thing to imply! And Grace doesn't mind that Simon is a lot, can't really mind it, and even if he could, he thinks he'd still like Simon, sharp edges and all, because-
"It's fine," Simon says, slowly. Scoots a little step closer, and then, putting his own mug down, reaches down to take Grace's from him. "I get it."
Yeah. Yeah, Simon- Simon would.
Grace slumps. Sighs, shaking out a hand and then grimacing when he splatters coffee all over, and then grimaces harder when he realises, oh yeah, shirt. His shirt is wet now. Eugh.
"I'm sorry," he repeats, third time, and Simon snorts.
"Weird to heard that so much from you," he says, voice surprisingly soft, and Grace smile, feels it bloom softly on his face.
"I am kind of stepping on your turf," he teases, and Simon laughs, and for a moment, it's like nothing's happened at all.
