it was perfect timing, really, as just before luci’s name was called, maze got the chance to retort to the apple juice comment. “what, and watch my best friend have to take an entire loan out to pay for his shrek juice and a carton of apple juice? no way.” ask mazen and he would’ve claimed he wasn’t exaggerating. things seemingly went from bad to worse. “not the cheese, lucius!“ he called out rather dramatically. “whatever they’re paying you for this role, i’ll pay double to get you back onto mozzarella sticks.“ selfishly, perhaps, as eating alone them was no fun. “can’t your manager hook you up with a role that doesn’t require a personal trainer?“ not in hollywood, he thought, answering his own question. with the green substance being waved in front of him, maze felt embarrassingly close to hurling. “surer than i’ve ever been.”

Los Angeles hadn’t been his first choice, but since he wasn’t in a position to be picky, he packed her bags and moved here. For the first few months he swore that as soon as he had a better job offer, he would leave, but five years had passed and several job offers had come and gone, and he was still here. Why? He wasn’t exactly sure, although maybe the green juices played a part. “Oh no! You are one of them now,” he said as if he wasn’t also holding a green juice and was wearing an L.A Dodgers cap. “Listen, as long as you don’t start complaining about the traffic or tell me you are about to eat some tacos before heading to an audition, then you are not the most L.A. guy I’ve met.”

sonya can’t help the smile on her lips. she has a hard time not eating a compliment right up. “you’re right, i’m always funny.” she sighs, as if it’s a burden she has the carry. “but thank you, i appreciate it. and it is nice having biased fans. gives me a boost of confidence.” even after everything, as long as he followed her words, she didn’t mind having him around to be supportive. “so you’d come by anything else or just wanted to see me blow my stack for seven minutes and that’s it.”

“Gross, isn’t it?” she quipped with a smile, hands tucked into her back pockets as she waited for the line to inch forward. “I swore I wouldn’t become a green juice person. And now, here I am not only buying green juice but waiting in line for it.” With a roll of her eyes she shifted her yoga mat into the other arm, airing out the area where the vinyl had clung to her arm. “Although, I’m pretty sure they’re doing this shit back in Brooklyn now too.”

“Same here,” Lucius chuckled, flashing her a smile, “I swore I’d never drink my vegetables, but here I am.” Of course, he did it begrudgingly, he would have much preferred one of the sweet smoothies the place also offered. But the way you looked meant way too much in Hollywood, so he was following his trainer’s orders- producers’ orders too. He nodded then, “Yeah, I guess that’s true, not the New York I once knew,” he joked, “I think it’s a relatively new thing for them- though, Brooklyn probably thinks they invented the idea.” 

right after a photoshoot that had started far too early for her liking, she’d decided to get herself a nice, hot coffee as a treat. the brazilian had been in line, casually scrolling through her instagram feed whilst mindlessly liking her mutual friends’ photos until she’d heard his voice. taken back, she stepped back from him, eyeing him carefully to make sure she wasn’t seeing things. seriously? why now? “out of all the lines in l.a., you just happen to be in this one.” karma truly was a bitch.

“ i feel like every bone in my body is in the wrong place, right now. ” never one to truly exercise, the last place she’d imagine herself in would be a hot yoga class. but spending forty five minutes looking at the instructor in yoga pants did seem like a great idea. in retrospect, she wishes she had picked something more mild. “ how —– how can these people even do this? and for fun? ”

“look at what the cat dragged in.” she took note of luci the second she walked out from backstage after her set. there was already a beer in her hand and it seemed not to matter that the last time they spoke she told him he was better off chasing some other cat, but no, here he was. “hope tonight wasn’t my worst night yet.” though she said this pretty much every night.

         “oh god,” baz laughs and covers his face with his hand for a moment, shaking his head. “i think that’s actual my worst god damn nightmare. not bombing on stage. reaching a low where i have to be on riverdale.” hell, even baz thought it was going to be easier than it ended up being for him to breakthrough to dramas. but it just… isn’t.

“just because something’s ‘good for you’, doesn’t mean it’s good for you.“ although what he’d said made little sense, to his best friend, he could only hope that it did. regardless, he’d waited for luce to finish his session with his trainer - the least he could do was wait another ten minutes for him to get his juice. but he couldn’t help by intercept. “yeah, apples on their own. you could buy a gallon of apple juice for half of what they’re charging you here.” mazen tried not to sound bitter, like he was being chosen over a kale smoothie, “why does everyone have to mess with the feng shui of the fruit and veg kingdom?“

“in my defense, i was too lazy to make anything else. work has me drained. why are rich people so particular about their diets? why can’t they just order chicken or something?” she complained to her best friend and roommate. “yeah but it’ll probably leave a mark. whatever. god gives his hardest battles to his sexiest warriors so i’m still winning.”

        meredith snorts at the others words. she has the list of juices to get for jill in one hand and her phone in the other, mindlessly scrolling through instagram. she peers up at the other in front of her in line. “oh, yeah. if you’re not drinking a green juice and going to sweetgreen, you’re not really in l.a. it sucks that the stereotypes are actually kinda good.”

in typical maitê fashion, she had gone to esther’s place after such a disastrous meeting with her agent, and in hopes of the other female distracting her. even so, that plan had backfired, considering she’d ended up ranting about how terrible her day had gone anyway. thankfully, esther had always been an effective listener. “duh. i know i’m sexy,” she teased her with a girlish, uncalculated giggle, unlike the one she’d memorized and put to use when she wanted or needed something. “it’s just frustrating, es. i’m twenty-five and i still haven’t won anything noteworthy.” the plethora of awards, nominations and titles she’d garnered over the past two years had been nothing compared to the success she wanted for herself.
