Being a kpop Stan isnāt for the weak š¤§š¤§
I somehow feel like being a kpop Stan is contradicting my morals and what I stand upon.
Like, yes I do agree it is a fcked up industry, yes I agree it is inherently misogynistic, and yes I agree that you should never hold any idol high, because you never know who they truly are.
But at the same time, those people helped me at my lowest by giving me joy, hope, music and much more I could ever be thankful forā¦š
So yes, I will always criticize the Kpop industry because it needs to evolve into something safer and healthier. However, the first step for this utopia to become a reality is by starting to become yourself a « healthy » fan. Support your faves, let them know calmly and respectfully if they did something that offended you or could offend others, and always give room for apologies !
(As long as it is still within a reasonable treshold, ofc šāāļø)
I know cancel culture is important, and I stand by it, but we need to do it smartly too! Cancelling an adult idol for what they did young and clueless is useless. Rather, letting them know why it was wrong and educating them about it is smarter.
Same goes for culture-related scandals, as long as it is within a certain threshold of « oh it is highly likely that she/they/he didnāt knowĀ Ā», than, we should point, correct, and teach calmly and respectfully.
Of course all this goes under « reasonable mistakes », a grown adult saying known racist comments or wearing known racist artefacts/clothes when acting completely independent should be held responsible for his/her/their own actions.
I have always been afraid of sharing my opinion regarding these topics, but as a fellow caratš that has stanned mainly Seventeen and other groups as well for years, I noticed the following : fans dictate the law most of the time. That is why we should also be more cautious and held accountable for our actions :))
Thank you for reading <333
