The heat is becoming unbearable. There is no food. There is no water. Technology has been lost. At the dawn of human civilization, our ancestors wore masks to deceive their prey. At its dusk, we wear masks to deceive the hunter. My people harbor no illusions. They call this salvation, urging us to voluntarily surrender our minds into their power, to submit… But how can humanity be preserved by stripping it of its will? Nevertheless, we surrendered. We lost this battle — as thinking beings, as a culture, and as a civilization. We walk our final conscious path with the hope that one day the nets will loosen and our freedom will return to us. We go to the City believing that one day the hunter will vanish, and we will regain control of the planet. The Judge’s sword already hangs above our heads. Humanity’s sentence has been passed.
