Piltover's Enforcer

Vi couldn't help but smile with how excited the little one was that they matched. She honestly never thought she'd see this day in a million years. "Yes we do, Kiddo." She held the other's hand as she folded them together, not answering the question right away. "It was old, for one thing. I wore it all the time for a while considering we didn't exactly have a lot of nicer clothes." She gave a shrug, leaving the idea that there was more to it out there for Caprice to see. She really didn't want to explain what happened in front of Rosie. She wanted better for her, and to never think either side to that whole thing was the answer. "After it ripped, it didn't patch together the same, and I eventually grew out of it anyway. That's all." If that lie couldn't get more obvious... but that was the last she would say on that for now even if the other tried to press it. "I'm just more surprised it was still there," she commented aloud now that she thought about it a little more. Most of their things should've been long gone if it had any functionality at all. That's just how Zaun was. You find it, you take it if you have a use for it. You survive.

Vi picked Rosie up into her lap, smiling down at her. “Well, it’s not like I can wear it anymore,” she replied to her with a shrug. “Go for it. Looks better on you than if ever did on me anyway.” She couldn’t help but laugh when Rosie mentioned the ruffled design of the dress that was similar to what she wore now. “I guess you’re right, Kiddo,” Vi replied to her, giving her hair a gentle ruffle. Seeing her in that old dress of hers really struck a cord with her, but she did what she could not to show it. This whole thing really was a lot between that and the box of their old things next to them. She flipped through the photos again, settling on one where they appeared only a little bit older. Their hair had already been dyed those cotton candy colors and at least Vi was dressed very different from the first photo: more like she dresses now. “And that’s how I’ve dressed ever since. We changed a lot between those two photos, but…” She paused for a moment, glancing up at her sister. “After all that time, we’re just like this now.”

Rosie giggles more and held onto her Momma, she relaxed in her arms while the others continued to go through the box. Caprice watched them and smiled “I wish I had my own pictures to show in return but I don’t think any were ever taken” she said and ruffled her enforcer’s hair while she looked through the pictures with her wife and sister-in-law. Jinx’s eyes trailed back on the ruffles attached to the underside of her sister’s work corset and at first didn’t really say anything until it continued to nag at her and then spoke “Does Rosebud know where those ruffles on your work uniform came from?” She asked softly. She remembered exactly where they came from and it was that dress Rosie had been wearing, some zaunite kids kicked her through the dirt and caused it to rip. The orphanage staff gave it a do it yourself patch up and cut the ripped trim off of it and after that Vi seemed to wear them less and less. Rosie looked up at Vi and tilted her head “Where are they from Momma?” She asked

“Probably not,” Vi replied to her sister rather quickly, attempting to shrug it off at first. It wasn’t really a story she was too keen on talking about at the moment, especially in front of Rosie since she was right about the same age as her when it first happened. It was when their daughter asked that she knew she couldn’t just let it go. Maybe there was a way she could get around the details. She looked into those pale blue eyes of Rosie’s and sighed a bit. “Look at that old photo again.” She flipped back to it quickly enough, staring at it for a moment, thinking back on the time when she wore it herself. “Now, look at the dress you’re wearing, Kiddo. It’s the same one, but it looks different. Right around here...” she started, pointing to the old fraying stitch work. It was an old attempt at fixing the dress. The way it looked now was just a reminder to her of why she quit wearing them. “It was actually ripped. You can see where one of the adults at the time tried to fix it. A strip that was here before is now here,” she added, tapping her finger against the patch on the dress and then running her fingers along the lace on her corset. “So I guess now you can match Momma, huh?” She made an attempt to lighten up the mood, running her hand against the little girls back now as she held her close again.

Vi picked Rosie up into her lap, smiling down at her. "Well, it's not like I can wear it anymore," she replied to her with a shrug. "Go for it. Looks better on you than if ever did on me anyway." She couldn't help but laugh when Rosie mentioned the ruffled design of the dress that was similar to what she wore now. "I guess you're right, Kiddo," Vi replied to her, giving her hair a gentle ruffle. Seeing her in that old dress of hers really struck a cord with her, but she did what she could not to show it. “I don’t know, guess it was built to last,” Vi sort of half teased and sort of half complimented her sister’s work. “Beats me how she found it. I had tried to figure out what I could a while ago, but no one could tell me anything about any of it. Guess it was all just old junk to everyone.” Which in fairness, it was, but to them it was so much more. These things were so much smaller now that the world wasn’t so big. When she heard Caprice coming back in the room with Rosie, she turned her head to look at them. Immediately she looked just about like deer in the headlights as she glanced between her and her sister who was now staring her down. “Yeah, she’s cute. You know, once upon a time, someone else fit in that dress,” she replied, her eyes falling away as she bit her lip a little bit. She never thought she’d see that again after she tucked it away in that old closet. Picking up the pictures from the box, she flipped through them finding one showing the two sisters at the orphanage when they were quite young. Their hair was darker - more natural - and the resemblance between them was uncanny. One wore that very same dress while the other wore a T-shirt and a pair of shorts. She turned it over for the others to see. “That’s what she’s wearing. I’m surprised it was still there.”

Caprice smiled and sat next to Vi, she’d never thought she’d ever get to see the two sisters little like that “Aww look at you two, such cuties! I’m gonna assume you’re the one in the shorts and shirt right?” It was an assumption but given the fact she couldn’t ever get her wife into another dress after their last date night so she figured maybe it was the same way when the two of them were kids. Her arms found their way around her neck from behind her and smiled “You’re so adorable baby” she said kissing behind her ear a few times. Rosie smiles and pointed at the little girl in the dress “Momma!!” She said and smiled “You’re so pretty Momma!” She giggled and leaned back against her with a sweet and bright smile. Caprice laughed a bit “You sure that’s not Aunt Jess, Sweetheart?” She asked still insisting the girl in the dress was Jinx. The mechanic looked down to her wife and brushed some of her hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear “Right?” She asked though the look she got in response said it all was enough to tell her all she needed to know “that’s you? No way. You don’t even like wearing dresses now baby” she said and looked back at the picture “I had really thought that would’ve been Jinx.” She stared at the picture in awe and started tearing up. That was her wife at that age, so little and seemingly happy even if it was just for a small moment and that’s when she started crying a little after looking back at Rosie “Shit” she muttered “Look at you, Bruiser. You’re so sweet in that picture, I wish I would’ve gotten to know that little girl I’m that picture so much sooner because she turned into one of the most amazing women in my life” she leaned in and kissed her lips softly

When Rosie called out that it was her, Vi's expression shifted again but she didn't say anything at first. She was just going to let it play out for a moment, unsure of how to say it. Her face must have said it all when her wife began to question it as well. "You ever see Jess wear a dress?" she asked, finally looking her in the eyes after a moment. She looked rather confused when Caprice seemingly started crying. Returning the kiss she was given, she rested an arm around her wife. "That's... sort of true," she admitted, leaning her head against her wife's side as well with her eyes fixated on their daughter in her old dress. In all honesty, she'd always liked them and, in fact, wanted to wear them for a time. Since it was something Jinx would already have an idea about, she would say it even if she was a little hesitant about it. Her face turned a little pink as she spoke again. "I used to love that old thing, but that photo is probably one of the last times I wore it." She reached her arm out to Rosie so that she would come over to her. "How did you know that was me, Kiddo?"

When the text came through from Caprice, she immediately checked her phone. It wasn’t like her not to answer for that long, but she had apparently gone out intentionally and she didn’t want to jump to immediate conclusions. ‘Okay, I’ll see you when you get home. Miss you. <3’ she replied before setting the phone down again. “You hear that Ro? Your moms gonna be home real soon,” she told the little girl with a smile. “You got your homework done, Kiddo? We don’t need her getting on both of us when she gets back.” She gave her a pat on the back before pulling herself off the floor where she had been playing with Rosie for a bit. “Over here, baby,” she spoke up when her wife called to her, placing a kiss on her cheek as she walked up to her before following her into the bedroom. “What you got there? More parts for your latest prototype?” She teased harmlessly, her eyes fixating on the box. What her wife said next is what definitely surprised her for sure. “You shouldn’t have gone alone. You know how dangerous it is there.” There was a deep concern in her voice, yet a hidden curiosity. When she mentioned the contents of the box, Vi rested a hand against it. She was curious, but also afraid. As always, her curiosity got the better of her as she began to open it and dig through it. Her attention first landing on the photos. Her hands were somewhat shaken from her nerves with the idea of the whole thing and she kinda wanted to throw up, but still she just sat there staring at them. “…woah, how did you find these? I’d been down there before we met, and as far as anyone could tell me, everything that could’ve been mine were just gone.”

Rosie giggled and nodded “it’s already done Momma” she said getting up to sit in her Momma’s lap and stayed there until her mom got home which is when she got up and ran to her. Caprice smiles and picked Rosie up in her arms after setting the box down and kissed at her cheeks “Hey, Little Bear! You been keeping your momma busy?” She asked rocking her gently in her arms. The mechanic snuggled her baby in her arms, even doing so when she was sat down “I wish, but I can’t go down there alone much without having to look over my shoulder” she admitted “The only thing I armed myself with down there was a wrench but it worked” She blew a raspberry onto their daughter’s cheek “that’ll really throw a wrench in their plans huh Rosie? Ignore that statement it was a horrible attempt at a joke” Rosie started to giggle again and held on tighter to her mother. “I know I shouldn’t have gone alone but I just needed to find some pieces of your past. Most of it was at the orphanage but I found the others scattered around hideouts in Zaun” she told her and reached out to hold her hand when she noticed her wife was shaking and lifted them to kiss at her knuckles “Hey, we’re in this together. I made that promise at the alter remember? I’m always gonna be here no matter what” she said trying to reassure her wife and calm her nerves “we don’t have to look through anything right now but if you do then I’ll be right here with you” she then put that same hand on her wife’s cheek again and smiled “I’m always gonna be here for my sweet flower, remember that” she leaned up and pressed a kiss to Vi’s cheek “I saved most of what I could, I asked around but people down there either gave me dirty looks or didn’t say anything at all”

Vi was listening to the words Caprice spoke, but her eyes were fixated on the things in the box. If she had been shown them a week ago, she wouldn't have been able to tell you what any of this was. Now, she recognized a lot of it. Sure, some of it had been lost to or damaged with time, but a lot of it still held up somehow. How had it alluded her before? Either way, she began rummaging through it before her hands landed on something: an old piece of tech that wouldn't look like much to most people, but she looked very excited to see it. "Oh wow, I haven't seen this in forever." The real miracle was if the thing would work still. It probably didn't, right? She messed with it a few times, it faltering and then finally a light coming on. "--Oh, shit." A smiled curled onto her features as she turned it back off and began digging through the box again, landing on a stack of photos. Before she could finish flipping through them, she stood up set them back down on top of the stuff. "Hold on," she spoke again, stepping out of the room to go see her sister for a moment. Half this old stuff was hers, and she needed to see it. The impulsive squirrel was at it again. "Hey, Jess. I spoke with Chris, she's alright as far as I can tell. Sunset's back though-- Come here for a minute," she spoke relatively fast, pulling her sister back to their room to see the box of their things not allowing her to protest. Picking up the piece of tech again, and turning it back on, she spoke again. Was she like 5? Yes. "You remember this old thing? You were so proud of this thing when you first made it. You never put it down."

that trope when a character has had nightmares for years and years and has basically learned to survive on four hours of sleep, and then they get to sleep through the night with no bad dreams once their so is next to them because they feel calm and safe after so long… it always makes me very very soft :(

Vi gave her sister a look that said everything. “You look me in the eyes and tell me you wouldn’t want your precious Ekko if something like that happened.” Even if she did it successfully, she probably wouldn’t believe it. If she said she’d want her to be there more, she might believe that to some degree but that’s about it. Vi stood up, giving her sister a nod in response to her next statement as she rested a hand on her shoulder for a moment. “I’m going to go for a walk if anyone asks where I am. I’ll be back in a bit,” she stated, waving her phone in her hand a bit to show that she meant she was gonna try to get a hold of Chris. She walked out of her sister’s room with the picture still in her hand at that point. Before stepping out, she set it down on her work desk for now. She would decide what to do with it later. She wouldn’t wander off too far, taking her usual routes as she hadn’t given that a second thought. From there, she called Chris as requested. As soon as she did, the teen went off and Vi wasn’t sure what to make of what she was hearing. “Woah, wait- You’re telling me that you were there? You’re like 6 years younger than Sunset, right? Oh this just keeps getting better, doesn’t it?” Chris would have no real reason to make that up. She wasn’t sure it would change anything as far as arguing for the case goes, but it is another layer to the whole fucking mess for sure. “It probably doesn’t make you feel better about it, but that asshole will be dealt with. It’s in progress now. Out of curiosity, why are you telling me this now?” The two weren’t exactly close, but that’s one of those things no one should have to deal with. She just wasn’t sure why she’d want her of all people to know something like that.

Jinx nodded “oh come on! I guess you’re right though. There’s just something about having someone you’re in love with hold you close” she squeezed the giant plush shark next to her. “Alright, Gearshift went out somewhere. She wouldn’t tell me where she was going but I’ll tell her when she gets back” she said and rolled on her side to continue to hold the shark plush. Chrissy shook her head “Because I cant tell Caprice. Imagine your younger sister telling you that she watched everything that happened to you that night, it’d tear her apart and she doesn’t need that on top of the stress she could be going through with the case” she explained “After all it did happen to her and not me. I don’t need her having any flashbacks or PTSD break downs right now” she went quiet for a few moments before speaking again, her voice cracking in response “It’s the first thing I remembered when Cait fucking detoxed me at the station. I’d rather be fucking high and not remember shit but I can’t exactly do that with everyone around me” despite how it sounded, she wasn’t actually mad but just stressed out from it “I’m sorry” she said quietly afterwards “Just- Just please don’t tell Caprice okay? I don’t want her to know about any of this” she gnawed at her lower lip with her teeth “I know we don’t have the best relationship but that’s all I ask about this. She can’t know.” The call was dropped once the nurse had come in but it wasn’t the last words from her ‘Just promise me’ and then nothing else

"I don't have to imagine, Chris. It's not exactly the same, sure, but my sister was with me no matter what growing up. For the good... and the bad," Vi replied, though wasn't able to provide much more context than that before the other continued. She went to respond again afterwards, but Chrissy had hung up the phone before she had really gotten a chance. By this point, Vi had stopped walking and leaned against a building nearby. She stared at her phone for a minute or so before sending a message to Chris. 'I won't tell her. She doesn't need that right now.' This at least gave Vi some wiggle room just in case she deemed it necessary to have that conversation in the future, but for now, she didn't want Caprice to find out in the first place. If Caprice knew that her sister was there and has memory of the whole thing, that would just about destroy her in some ways. In all honesty, she didn't know what to do with the information. Somehow she decided that she was her outlet for it, and it just about confused her in every regard. From there, she headed back home for the afternoon. On her way back, she also sent a text to her wife since she was apparently gone and wouldn't tell Jinx where she was going. 'Hey baby, where are you?' It was a simple text to attempt to reach her before she assumed the worst of things that could have been plausible.

Vi hesitated for a moment, attempting to process it all herself and observe the other’s movements. She put her arms around her sister when she practically threw herself at her. When she hugged her, she held onto her pretty tight after a moment. This was probably the first time she truly felt connected to her sister in a long time. “Well… no one’s memory is perfect…” She hesitated again as she had done all too often recently. She was unsure how to approach the next thing she was going to have to tell her with the whole thing. “…but it’s… way better than it was. As for how long, it’s only been a few days. — I had to make sure it wasn’t just a freak thing, and I didn’t want to somehow hurt either of us in the process,” she explained, pulling back a bit so she could look at her sister again. Vi’s eyes could almost look scared and pained as she took another deep breath. She began to gnaw at her lip with her teeth for a moment before she spoke again. “I’ve felt that there was this whole in me for a long time, and…. it just hit me while I was at work a few days ago, and I don’t even know what provoked it. I left work early that day, but ive managed otherwise… I just…” her voice trailed away as her eyes hit the floor. “One this is for sure…Now I just miss him like crazy….”

Jinx stayed in that single position for what seemed like an eternity before pulling back when her sister did. A few days ago? This was all just sitting in her sister’s head since then “You didn’t sit there alone did you?” She asked quietly “I’m always home so you know you can come to me” she told her before settling back in her bed and in the position before. “I miss him too, Zaun took such a good person and I can’t understand why” she paused before grabbing her sketchbook and flipping through it. The sound of a page tearing could be heard as she handed Vi the drawing, it was a picture of him or rather what she could remember though the picture of him was smiling, almost as if it was mid laugh but there was also something else about the drawing. He looked older almost as if he were their age now “Here I can make another one of him” she stated and set her sketchbook aside “I’m trying to get Ekko to leave Zaun but it hasn’t been successful so far though I’m still gonna try to bring him up here. I just don’t want something else to happy to anyone I love at this point. My sanity is rocky as it is at the moment” she hugged her knees again “I got a question, do you know what’s wrong with Chrissy? Every time I try to talk to her she gets jumpy and shit but she won’t tell me what’s wrong.” She said and shrugged “she’s probably just recooperating from the transplant, it’s probably nothing to worry about” she shrugged it off and leaned backwards against her pillows

“No.” Vi shook her head, still somewhat feeling bad about what she did that day even if Caprice told her not too. She always felt that she had to be stronger. “I know I could’ve, but to be honest I had no idea how to talk to you about it at the time... In some ways, I still don’t.... Sunset ended up just coming home,” she replied, folding an arm in front of herself again now. Her eyes trained back on the other’s movements when she appeared to be taking something out of her sketch book. Taking it from her with her free hand as she offered it to her, her eyes widened a fraction when she caught sight of what was on the paper. She locked absolutely stunned for a few moments, unsure of what to say again. She offered a small smile as she closed her eyes for a moment as the sight of it about punched her in the face with her emotions again. “You sure?” she asked, glancing up at her sister again a few moments later. It wasn’t as though she was going to start crying over it in this moment, but it was definitely apparent of how she felt about it anyway from her stare. “Ekko leaving Zaun? Now there’s a funny joke. Honestly, no idea why he hangs around you so much, but I’m a fucking traitor. I get that he wants change for Zaun, like hell so do I, but still.” When Jinx then proceeded to mention her sister-in-law, she raised her scarred brow out of curiosity. “You know, I don’t know. Speaking of... she asked me yesterday if I was alone as if she wanted to tell me something, but I had Ro with me at the time and I never did hear from her after that,” she started again, pulling her phone out of her pocket to begin texting Chris again. Jinx had reminded her that she wanted to do that. “I’ll figure it out.” The text she sent would read, ‘What did you need yesterday?’

Jinx looked up “Not at all, what do you need?” Her knees were pulled up close to her chest and her sketchbook laid in her lap, she paused and nodded “I guess you could say something like that” she said and closed the old and worn book and sat it aside beside her as the thought “it probably won’t change anything with your memory but I can remember when he just joined us and I got him to join me in a little prank I set for you. There was this old guy that lived down in Zaun and I told you he wasn’t home when he was and you went inside to ransack his house and he caught you doing it and started throwing stuff at you. You ended up rolling your ankle pretty bad trying to get out of the house but that’s not what makes me happy. He wrapped it up for you and carried you on his back until it felt better. He chewed me out over it and I felt really bad but it was one of the handful of times you actually let us take care of you for once” she smiled and set her chin on her knees “he was really nice and it’s one of the things I remember clearly. You were griping and complaining the whole time but you still let him carry you” she laughed a little. “Why did ya want to know about it if you can’t remember anything from our childhood memories anymore?” She lifted her head up and stretched her legs out, looking up to the other. Her sister’s curiousity wasn’t odd since the last time she checked, Vi couldn’t remember anything from their past

Vi’s heart was about in her throat by this point, but she listened to the other’s story, trying to draw back on that specific memory. She couldn’t help the smile the curled onto her face as she chuckled when it dawned on her what her sister was referring to. In hindsight, it was times like that which probably had her feeling the way she did about him after a while. “Hey- that shit hurt. I was so mad. That bastard was crazy. Who the fuck throws like half their fucking kitchen at a kid?” she interjected towards the end, her eyes drifting away from her sister for the moment after she spoke. As soon as those words left her mouth, she knew she’d be busted. “Of all things you pick me making a fool of myself? Gee, thanks,” she added pretty quickly with a very similar manner of griping. Old habits die hard, and now she remembered them, let alone being very similar these days naturally anyway. The look on her face was more serious now expecting a pretty quick reaction from her sister. In her eyes was a gaze that did not faulted as they locked with her sister’s again. She meant what she said, and wasn’t just bullshitting. “Served him right when I figured out he wouldn’t be home for real and I took from him anyway. No one messes with Vi and gets away with it.” There her smile was back on her face as she said those final words- that cocky expression she learned young.
