I had to think of myself as a small boy, sitting unhappy outside a czech pioneer camp because the other kids were calling me german pig. Samtredia, Georgia. On my way from Tblissi to Batumi i stopped in a few small towns to get a little feeling for the country. Samtredia was a sleepy town with one busy street where everybody seems connected to work with cars. Repairs, wheels, tyers and so on. Tiflis, Georgia. When i passed this man in the old town he just left his gate and went inside. So i ran after him. opening the gate, getting into his yard and saw noone. many flats were around the little yard but finally i saw a shadow at a window and knocked. He opened the door and we started talking russian and i explained that i would like to take his portrait. He just said ok and followed me outside again. I took maybe 3 frames, thanked him and he went back inside as if was the most normal thing that just happened.
