When something bothered me, I didn’t talk with anyone about it. I thought it over all by myself, came to a conclusion, and took action alone. Not that I really felt lonely. I thought that’s just the way things are. Human beings, in the final analysis, have to survive on their own.

I think it’s very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by another person.

You can be lonely even when you are loved by many people, since you are still not anybody’s one and only.

You think relationships are difficult? Try friendships. Try courting someone in order to convince them to join you in some nameless, shapeless Platonic complication — forever. Convince an adult stranger that you are worth a healthy slice of their limited time and energy without the prize of sex or romance.

You need to put effort into a relationship.
