Happy 1 year anniversary to Mr Sherlock Holmes! Here's a litttleee celebratory comic from me
Blog Masterpost: Sherlock & Co. Theories and Post-Episode Commentaries
(Newest to oldest episodes, scrolling down)
✨Revised timeline proposal✨
Updated Timeline Commentary on Missing Time: Six Parts
(Written after Part 1 of The Empty House, but doesn't generally incorporate info from there)
Part 1: Could Sherlock logistically have started boarding at Dulwich at age 11?
Part 2: Boarding House Bonanza (where could Sherlock have boarded at Dulwich, and effects of Reginald living nearby)
Part 3: The Road to Dulwich (implications of evidence of the exclusivity on being a boarder at the college for Sherlock, time before the school)
Part 4: Dulwich, and Implications for Sherlock’s Academic Arc: Theories on Burnout/A Fall From Grace
Part 5: Post-Dulwich school types and Sherlock’s Experiences: Pure Speculation (and explaining those runaway references)
Part 6: Meeting Lestrade and Becoming a Consulting Detective (Was Sherlock still a minor at the time? Where was Mycroft in all that?)
+Includes final thoughts on why I think all of this school speculation and laying out Sherlock's status in the family as a teenager might matter more than it seems when it comes to Reichenbach
The Six Napoleons🗿🤴
🌟I think I figured it out: The Comprehensive, Cross-referenced, Compulsively Caveated Sherlock & Co. Timeline🌟 +Updates now available! Additional commentary and revisions to ideas spread out across 6 posts above. Timeline at top of post is the latest version
Expanded section (bulletpoint reasoning still contained in main post): ->Part 1/3: Mariana's age, Lily's age range, and narrowing down the latter Expanded section (bulletpoint reasoning still contained in main post): ->Part 2/3: Sherlock's age, time at Dulwich, and age range for his expulsion Expanded section (bulletpoint reasoning still contained in main post): ->Part 3/3: Sherlock's starting year and date range for Dulwich, possible years for expulsion, and how old he could've been when meeting the Lestrades
Everything That We Know or Can Infer About Mycroft Holmes: Age, Personality, and Clues about Relationship to Sherlock (Raising him, being on the outs or not, comparisons of "genius", etc) +Note: I wrote this up before Part 1 of the Six Napoleons came out, it was just hell of a coincidence that his role/more references to him ended up being involved sooner than I expected
Sherlock raised by Mycroft?: Speculation on Age Differences, Any Changes to Canon, and Family Roles (Golden Child versus Troublemaker) +Also written before additional information in Part 1 and 2, but nothing disconfirmed by them
The Musgrave Ritual
Thoughts on Bullying in Sherlock & Co., and the Bully Redemption narrative in The Musgrave Ritual
Reframe Reginald's Perspective So That He Assumed...: potential story adjustments as a lens for analysis, and considering blind spots
"He Punished Me In Every Way You Could Imagine" Translated: A Glossary of Coordinated Physical Harassment and Abuse, including Injury Risk, in The Musgrave Ritual of Sherlock & Co.
There's (Still) Something Up with The Musgrave Ritual: A Theory and Analysis +Reblog with addition about Emery's VA work for this being unusual -Written after conclusion of The Stockbroker's Clerk
The Hound of the Baskervilles
Reaction to Part One, initial thoughts on Watson's forlorn introduction, and DIY transcript (since that opening was strangely not in the official one...) Some timeline thoughts on the Seldens, speculation on Steven Seldens upbringing +Note: Written after Part 8, before conclusion to story
Speculation on potential Moriarity role in HOUND, theory for Steven Selden connection +Note: Written after Part 8, before conclusion to story
Are the biscuits poisoned???: Brief steam-of-consciousness panicking about getting towards the end of Hound without the fearful mood in Watson's intro being resolved
[Below the cut: posts on The Missing Three-Quarter, and general speculation on Moriarity's identity, background, and connection to Sherlock in this 'verse]
Sherlock & Co. Proposed Timeline: Quick Corrections!
Making a relatively quick post on a couple of errors I’d like to correct on the record, before a more involved upcoming post discussing adjustments to the timeline and the implications of new info/more time to think since the original post. I will be including proper citations and visual elements in the longer post to-be, this is meant to be the barebones precursor to a more detailed revision.
Revised timeline to be upfront, reasoning below:
Original compilation (with links to all 3 parts) here!
Error #1: As kindly pointed out and elaborated on by @zaa0620, I didn’t accurately factor in Dulwich entry points/years.
It turns out that Dulwich lists specific academic years for boys as their accepted entry points for admission. Relevant to my range, that would be Year 7 (11+ year olds) and Year 9 (13+ year olds).
Per the rather comprehensive school website, there’s empathically no room for a Year 8 (age 12) entry point.
So, when properly considering the policies of this specific English school, it seems like Sherlock couldn’t have started there at age 12.
...Looks like that rather handily knocks out my “started at 12->expelled at age 14” chain, mea culpa.
“But wait,” some hypothetical person says “if the college says that Year 7 is age 11 and up, couldn’t Sherlock have begun in Year 7 as one of the older boys in that cohort, if he’d turned 12 years old already?”
Since I was that hypothetical person wondering that, I did look into it. Turns out: nope!
Helpfully, Dulwich lists their birthday range cutoffs for entering specific years, and these seem to stay pretty consistent. I have younger members of the family who are early September kids, I know the drill with when you just miss being admitted for a starting year.
With Dulwich, starting in Year 7 means that you must be born between September 1st of 12 years prior to the starting year, up to August 31st of 11 years prior. So, a starting year of 1999 means that the admission birthdate range would’ve been between [September 1st, 1987-August 31st, 1988]
Since we know Sherlock’s birthday is January 6th, that means he couldn’t have fallen into this admissions range for Year 7 if he turned 12 that year (if born in 1987). January 1987 falls before the earliest acceptance point of September 1st that year.
However, if he started at 11 years old, with a birthday of January 6th in 1988, that falls neatly into the acceptance range (before August 31st, 1988)! If he started as a Year 7 in 1999 at 11 years old, it all works out!
So, if assuming a starting year of 1999 at 11 years old=>Sherlock would be currently 38 years old
Error #2: Sherlock actually could have started at Dulwich in 1998, not just 1999
Just slipped me by in that whole very definitive sounding “he could only have started in 1999” paragraph. I think I was just over-focusing on arguing against pushing things for the younger end of the range (hence the age 36 example), and I missed a year for the older range.
So, just no to the "only 1999 can be his starting year" stuff! I was incorrect, a starting year of 1998 works just fine…as long as if he was 11 years old when starting Year 7 that year.
Once again, same thing with the admissions acceptance range for the birthdates. For 1998, that would’ve been [September 1st, 1986-August 31st, 1987]
If Sherlock started in 1998 at 11 years old (birthdate of January 6th, 1987), that works just fine. But it wouldn’t work for a 1986 birth year. There’s just no starting at 12 years old.
So, if assuming a starting year of 1998 at 11 years old=>Sherlock would be currently 39 years old
Conclusions
Note: If you push the dates further back past 1998, then that breaks my “Sherlock can’t be 40 this year” assumption, and frankly, I don’t really see people pushing for him being older than even that. If you try the other direction to have starting years closer to us to make him still 36ish and just say that he still started closer to 11 later in order to make the “only briefly at Dulwich/expelled as a teenager” limits still line up, then you'd be pushing into the 2000s and be in conflict with the dated letter of him definitely being there in 1999.
So, that all gives us two possible years for Sherlock’s starting year at Dulwich: 1998 or 1999
Thus, his birth years are either:
1988 (started at Dulwich in 1999, currently 38 years old)
OR
1987 (started at Dulwich in 1998, currently 39 years old)
Now, the question seems to be: does this "let's say he started at 11 years old" premise line up with the rest of the evidence and observations we have?
We know that Sherlock was a boarder at the school, would this have been allowed under their policies? How do the two possible birth years for Sherlock affect the rest of the proposed timeline, including legal factors for working with Lestrade?
More on that (and more!) soon. Everything is already fact-checked and compiled, it just needs to be organized shortly and some deference given to the idea of this not being entirely walls of text.
(Once I started making annotated maps and looking up WWII-era building renovation dates, I decided to just embrace the madness; I hope it at least makes for a briefly interesting exhibition once it’s all laid out)
“Cold hands!”
“Warm heart.”
No I’ll never recover from this thanks for asking

I think I figured it out: The Comprehensive, Cross-referenced, Compulsively Caveated Sherlock & Co. Timeline
Oh, DC Lily, you and your "I was seven months old" reply to Sherlock's embarrassing story from when he met you for the first time have opened up a whole world of possibility/arguable over-analysis. This originally started just as curiosity about reconciling Lily's comment with one from Dame Lestrade regarding how long she herself had known Sherlock, but as I dug deeper into cross-referencing Lily's age now and some overlooked info with Sherlock's time at Dulwich, everything just gradually coalesced together.
Above is the main ~Proposed Timeline~ visual from the result of a lot of time on Desmos doing basic addition so that I had a history for everything, while below the cut is the reasoning for my conclusions, in the following order:
Mariana's age range
Lily's age range
Cross-referencing Lily's possible ages, and her being a baby when she met Sherlock, with how long Gwen and Sherlock have known each other
Sherlock's age range
Sherlock's age at Dulwich, and the age range for his expulsion
Narrowing down specific years at Dulwich, Sherlock's starting year, and how old Sherlock was when he met Gwen and Lily post-expulsion
I've also spliced off separate posts under the topics for these sections with everything in paragraph form in case that's easier to read, containing bits of additional commentary that's been cut from this bulletpoint version.
Expanded commentary:
Part 1/3: Mariana's age, Lily's age range, and narrowing down the latter
Part 2/3: Sherlock's age, time at Dulwich, and age range for his expulsion
Part 3/3: Sherlock's starting year and date range for Dulwich, possible years for expulsion, and how old he was when meeting the Lestrades
With that, on to the bulletpoints below!
4+1: FOUR times Sherlock was utterly annoying and ONE time he wasn't - (2026)
made a design for a 221B wallpaper blanket! my commissions are OPEN (examples and tos on this page) if you're interested in this or another design. rbs are highly appreciated :]

“Any comment?”John按下发送前抬起头看了看Sherlock——他知道这个结尾写得可能夸张了点,但是……Come on,那是他男朋友,他当然有权利在想赞美他时就尽情地赞美他。
“Well,虽然不知道‘Harry Potter挥动魔杖施展守护神咒’这事儿到底有多令人惊叹,”Sherlock突然笑起来,弯身在John额头上轻巧地吻了吻,“不过听上去不错。”
“Any comment?” John looked up at Sherlock before hitting the “submit”. He knew that the ending might be a bit over-done. But, come on, Sherlock was his boyfriend and he had all the rights to compliment him as much as he wanted to.
“Well, although I don’t get the greatness of ‘Harry Potter waved his wand and cast a Patronus Charm’,”Sherlock smirked and bent to kiss John’s forehead,”it still sounds good.”
YES - holiday 😊, BUT - waterfall 😭
