You deserve the world, Yuuri, so I’m really sorry to hear you have to go through something like that. I’m sure people have told you this before, and I know it doesn’t cure everything to just hear it -- but I want to assure you that in the long run, physical appearances really don’t matter. Everyone has worth and value, no matter what they look like. Of course, that includes you!

I also want to assure you that no one else pays as much attention to your body as you do to yourself. This isn’t to say you’re not worth looking at -- but that most people are super preoccupied with their own lives, and care more about what’s going on for them, or the conversation they’re having with you, than what you look like. I promise you that you are likable and deserving of wonderful things, just the way you are.

Maybe it could help to make a list of things you like about yourself? If you start to think negatively about your appearance, remind yourself that that’s just one aspect of who you are, and that there are so many other great things about you! I know that won’t solve things right away, and I don’t mean to seem like I’m making light of your problems. But I want to assure you that recovery is possible. Maybe talking to someone like a therapist or a counsellor could help you on that path? But either way, I want to assure you that this won’t be your reality forever. Someday life is going to be so amazing!

Also, I’m sorry to hear about your pain! It’s super cool that you skate, but you should be sure to take care of your body as well as possible -- get enough rest between practices, stretch before you go on the ice, make sure you get enough to eat and drink. Skating is fun, but your health and safety is always more important than your training!

Hey, y’all, it’s Mod Victor here with some news about the blog! I know I’ve been neglecting it this semester -- I’ve been crazy busy and just haven’t had time for it. But now I’m on winter break, and I’d love to start filling your requests and helping out my fellow YOI kin again!

Our lovely Mod Yuuri has also been swamped from school, and because of that he decided to step down from this blog. I’ll miss him and all all his wonderful contributions, but I respect his decision to do what’s best for him. I want everyone to take care of themselves!

I’m really sorry you have to deal with something like anorexia. I know that having that is really, really hard.

I want you to know that you absolutely have worth, because everyone has worth just for being a human being. Mental illnesses like anorexia can make you feel like you’re not worth anything, that you’re a waste of space or somehow worse than anyone else. But that is absolutely not true. It’s just a lie that your illness tells you. No one is a waste of space. Everyone deserves to be here, no matter who they are or what their body looks like. You are no exception.

I know it’s hard to believe things like this when society is constantly bombarding us with the opposite message, but I really want to stress that in the long run, things like physical importance aren’t important. Your worth as a human can’t be measured by that, or by what you eat. Your worth as a human is infinite and not conditional. You don’t need to torture yourself, to hurt your body and deprive yourself of things you need, in order to be a good person. Self-care is not selfish, and surviving and taking care of yourself are always noble goals. All bodies are okay. All people need food to survive, and that’s okay too.

If it’s possible for you, it may be a good idea to seek help for this issue (from a therapist, or one isn’t available, even just a trusted friend). I know sometimes people with anorexia feel like they don’t deserve to recover, or aren’t sick enough to recover, but those are lies your illness tells you as well – everyone deserves to live a mentally healthy life, and deserves to recover no matter how sick they are. Recovery is definitely achievable, and it would make me so incredibly happy to see you be able to live life to the fullest! I’m not saying you’ll be able to fix things for yourself instantly, but a few steps in the right direction can go a long way.

Additionally, as a feminine trans guy myself, I know it can be sort of confusing to be effeminate and transmasculine at the same time. But I want you to know with absolute certainty that being effeminate doesn’t invalidate your gender at all! The world is filled with masculine cis boys, feminine cis boys, masculine trans boys, and feminine trans boys – gender is a complicated mix of internal feelings and outward presentation, and any combination of those things is possible and okay! The most important criteria for being male is that you have an internal sense that your gender is “boy” and that being called that is what feels right for you. Boys can be as feminine or as masculine as they want! As long as you feel like a boy, you’re a boy, period.
