np :] i wish i could post a timelapse but the website i use to draw (kleki) doesn't have the feature...
but i'll try explaining π€« first beginning with colouring the basic skin/hair/clothing, you don't have to worry too much if they look inconsistent at this point but if you're unsure about something (like the colour of a speech bubble) i usually pick from the existing palette range
then once you finish the rendering stage (and combine the lineart and colour layers) is when you pull out lasso gradient tool (my holy grail) + tone curve combo
the great thing about gradients and overlays and curves is that no one can stop you and you can keep adding them forever....(. β α΄ β.) for example with the house drawing, i added the bluish-teal gradient in the background as a second overlay layer on top of the characters but reversed it so that it looks like there's light emitting from his laptop
(side note: i'd really recommend kleki if you want to try alternatives to paid programs because i found that with limited brushes/effects it was easier to draw spontaneously and not fret over small details)
