#The girl and the god - My original story/Minecraft fic that very much escalated. I wanted to write a story, so I used my Minecraft survival world as a starting point and just started building from there and suddenly there are eight chapters and still going strong! On my ao3. You shall have to be patient if you want to read them here.
#Poppy’s guide to the apocalypse - Another original story, about a girl in a post-apocalyptic Earth documenting the monsters that are what’s left of humanity (I keep saying I’m gonna post it more and I know it’s been months but I promise I haven’t given up on it (I say to my audience of one fan))
#Rosedtalks - Textpost tag, sometimes fandom related, sometimes just rambling
#Reblogging to piss off that one mutual - Pretty self-explanatory: just the reblogging tag. I’ve got an irl friend who follows me and DMs me, annoyed, whenever I go on reblogging sprees, since he has notifications turned on for me and they take up his screen. It never stops being funny

Random Au idea; Miraculously, the Blip-A crew survive, but at the cost of their travel time, making it so they arrive at Tau Ceti around the same time as the Hail Mary. (Don't think too hard about it)
Grace now gets regularly hassled by many Eridians, all of whom can hold multiple conversations at once, unlike him.
Naturally, opinions about the local wet organful thang Tau Ceti dragged in are varied
ooh! ooh! i'm sorry for thinking too hard about it but i do often enjoy thinking too hard about things -- what if the travel time lines up, because in this AU, Rocky figured out during the journey that the strange scary "space sickness" affecting the original Blip-A crew could be blocked by proximity to Astrophage? and so the timing is different because the Blip-A had to turn around and go back to Erid (with crew members all crammed into Rocky's workshop near the engines, whenever they weren't carrying out essential duties elsewhere on the ship).
And then Erid had to create a whole different ship design, with Astrophage lining the hull. And probably they also reconsidered the crew composition a little, bumping up priority on crew members with physical hardiness as opposed to just cramming the whole ship full of the very smartest Eridians around. And so it was that second ship (still with Rocky aboard: as the one who figured out how to stave off the "space sickness" and saved the first crew, Rocky is very much The Guy Who Accidentally Became Important At Work, and he was considered essential for the second mission) that ended up actually reaching Tau Ceti and meeting up with the Hail Mary?
what if Rocky & Adrian in Erid's pre-Astrophage times were DINK Eridians, who were focused on their respective careers and both in agreement that neither of them wanted to raise pebbles of their own?
and then after Rocky sails off into the skies to save Erid and doesn't return, Adrian's family and friends close ranks around them to make sure Adrian doesn't isolate themselves in grief, and one consequence is that Adrian spends a bit more time around their pebble relatives and the pebbles of their friends. and Adrian decides that if Rocky were to miraculously return, Adrian would want to raise pebbles with Rocky if Rocky were open to that.
(But time passes, and passes, and no word of the ship ever makes it back to Erid, and Adrian silently bargains with the universe -- if it would just be merciful and return Rocky to them, they would stay silent on the subject of pebbles until the end of time if that was what Rocky wanted.)
and years later, as Grace and Rocky make their way to Erid aboard the Hail Mary, the two talk and talk and talk about all kinds of things. and Rocky listens to Grace as he recovers and reminisces on all his fond memories of his young human students back on Earth, and Rocky realizes that he himself hasn't actually like. just hung out with pebbles all that much? ever since he was a pebble himself, he was highly dedicated to developing his career as an engineer -- when would he have had the time or opportunity to interact with pebbles, anyway? but Grace makes human kids sound like such amazing little people. Rocky wonders if Eridian pebbles on Erid these days are like that too. and Rocky decides that if Adrian were to miraculously be waiting for him still, Rocky would want to raise pebbles with Adrian if Adrian were open to that.
(But so much time has passed since Rocky left Erid. Rocky knows he's changed, and surely Adrian must have changed -- could they possibly have changed in compatible directions, while so far apart? how much good fortune in the universe could possibly be left for Rocky by now, after he used up so much of it to meet Grace and obtain the solution to save Erid? and Rocky silently bargains with the universe -- he won't press his luck; if Adrian still wants him, that'll be enough, pebbles or no pebbles.)
and the Hail Mary arrives at Erid and things are super crazy and busy for a good while. Rocky and Adrian reunite and move in next door to where Grace's biodome is being built. and sooner or later, the subject of pebbles comes up. Rocky and Adrian are mutually overjoyed to realize that they're actually on the same page about this!
"But how much do the two of us even know about pebbles, really?" Adrian frets, sitting cuddled up to Rocky in the comfortable little niche of Grace's bedroom built especially for watchers.
"We'll be fine," soothes Rocky, tilting his carapace slightly toward the raised platform where a sleeping Grace is just beginning to wake up. "I know a guy."
I gave them the rest of class to work on their assignment and ask questions. Naturally, some of them would rather goof off. As we speak, the kid who asked the question is fashioning some kind of figure out of modelling clay. Clay seems to be very 'in' right now. I'm lucky I'm not the one who has to clean it off the desks.
I resist the urge to reach under my sleeve and rub my arm. The skin still pinches and pulls uncomfortably sometimes, even all these years later. I started washing with cold water years ago because it's so sensitive to heat. Makes me feel like I should be drinking a kale smoothie and teaching yoga.
I roll my chair over to the keyboard and play: "well, a long time ago, I was exposed to your atmosphere." I make sure to add just the right touch of good-natured annoyance. They should really be working, but I just can't turn down a good biology question.
That gets their attention. If Eridians could gasp, I'm assuming this would be a gasping type scenario. Leia—who asked the question—puts down their modelling clay. A few kids sway their carapaces. I've clearly got their attention.
"You've already been through the basics of human biology before you got here, yes? I key.
"I forgot," chimes a kid near the front with a green-hued carapace. I call them 'Oscar.' Creative, I know.
I fight the urge to roll my eyes. I've never known any Eridian to forget anything.
"Alright," I key in, accepting defeat. There's no way they'll let this go now. "Can anyone tell me what temperature my biosphere is kept at?"
"22℃!" a kid near the back chimes. In Eridian units, of course.
I point to them. My suspicion that they've been pestering my life support team has been proven correct, but we don't have time to get into that today.
There's a bit of shuffling. I guess a lot of them didn't realize just how cold my biosphere is. xenonite really is amazing stuff.
"Now, the human body is pretty great at maintaining internal temperature. when it's too hot, we sweat. when it's too cold, we shiver." massive oversimplification. We haven't gotten to the circulatory system yet. We're supposed to be studying earth—heh, Erid—science right now, for Pete's sake. (turns out kids everywhere love learning about volcanoes).
"Why didn't skin protect you question?
Right. Why wouldn't my kids would do the Eridian equivalent of anthropomorphizing me? It's a logical fallacy we both have in common. You are a thinking creature like me, ergo we must be just alike.
I stretch my fingers before keying: "because my skin is mostly living tissue. Individual cells aren't so good at regulating direct contact to high temperatures." might as well get it all out of the way now. "Besides, your atmosphere is highly corrosive to me."
There's a long silence. Two littler kids near the front hunker down and pull their arms up around them. There's some anxious chirping near the back. Their writing pads are entirely forgotten. Oh boy.
I try to approximate a consoling tone with the modulation tools available to me. Even after all these years, tone is difficult to grasp in the Eridians' beautiful, complex musical language.
It's occurred to me that I'm sort of like their equivalent of Stephen Hawking.
"It's alright," I quickly key. "There was medicine aboard my ship to help me heal and stop the pain."
This doesn't seem to help. The kids are still upset, and now they know it hurt.
"How did this happen question?"
"Did your habitat fail question?" Another kid asks. This sends a melodic, anxious hum through the whole class.
I sigh and wheel my chair over to my blackboard. It's not really a blackboard, of course--the kids wouldn't be able to see chalk smeared over slate, but that's what I call it. It actually more like a etch-a-sketch. I can use a series of dials and joysticks to control a magnet, in order to manipulate iron filings to create drawings my kids can actually see. It took some practice at first, but I'm pretty good at it now.
It takes me the better part of the class period to recount the story of the dangerous tailspin the Hail Mary experienced over Adrian. Side note: class periods where a whole issue when I first decided to resume teaching on Erid. The science cluster wanted five hour classes. I said 'absolutely not,' and managed to haggle them down to an hour and a half. A short class by all accounts for an alien with a crystal brain, but for me and my mushy bowl of salt and potassium it's more than enough.
"Teacher Grace is a hero," Oscar says quietly. The whole class is quiet. I guess it never really occurred to them before. It's been long enough that these kids were only infants when the Hail Mary came to Erid. To them, I'm probably just their kooky alien teacher. They never thought too long about how I actually got here.
They don't even remember astrophage, I think wonderingly.
That thought is what makes me stop. A strange feeling is growing in my chest. Grief? No, I'm happy. I'm happy they never had to go through that gut-wrenching, existential fear. But there's a bittersweet tinge to it, something I can't quite name. I blink rapidly. There's a burr in my throat.
"You save all of us." It's Leia. The kid with the modelling clay, the one who first asked the question about my arm. Their voice is solemn.
"Yeah. Well." I clear my throat, blinking my eyes clear. "You can thank this old man by working on your volcano assignment for the rest of the class. Quietly."
Finally, they get back to work. I turn away to wipe my eyes.

When Grace picks the name "Rocky", to a human audience, it's kind of like a little joke, right? Oh haha, it's because he looks like a rock, plus a movie reference, right?
But what if the Eridians hear it very, very differently?
Eridians kind of ARE rocks, in more than one way, aren't they? Their outer appearance resembles rocks; and (this might be fanon, I don't recall right now) their *brains* are crystalline structures. They hatch from eggs that probably look like rocks. The environment they live in presumably contains rocks.
What if Eridians view rocks in a kind of reverent, aspirational way? Like "For rocks you are, and to rocks you shall return" but with less of a dismissive/humble tone and more of a "we are fundamental building blocks of reality in every form we take" thing.
And then Rocky is explaining to Eridian linguists who are studying Grace's English what his "human name" means, in English, and the linguists are giving him scandalized side-eye and going "So you met an alien and you told him that THAT was your name? [Wow, what kind of arrogant prick would do that?]" And Rocky is like, "no no nonono, I absolutely did not tell him that was my name. I gave him my real name! Grace picked that name for me, he didn't even ask me for suggestions, I had nothing to do with it! It was like right after we first met properly -- it didn't seem like he even had to think very hard about it."
The linguists question Grace about his reasoning, of course, and Grace is a little embarrassed because he thinks this is a "haha our human is bad at naming things, he found a Tau Ceti amoeba and named it Taumoeba, silly human!"
(Also, he does not want this to end up leading to a movie night where the first movie he has to show a bunch of ALIEN LINGUISTS is Rocky. Just seems like kind of a genre-mismatch, right? And Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire is *right there*. Or he could pick some movie that showcases a bunch of different real human languages really well, or... Something that's not a sports drama film.)
So he brushes it off a little, saying something like "Well, sure, it wasn't hard for me to decide to call him Rocky. I mean, it's kind of the obvious choice, yeah?"
And the thing is. It's established knowledge now that all humans can perceive things that Eridians can't perceive. It's not even like superstitious "ooh spooky aliens" woo-woo. Respected, credentialed Eridian biologists have confirmed that humans have *actual, physical organs* that let them detect phenomena that Eridians cannot detect.
So what the Eridian linguists are hearing is that this alien met Rocky, observed Rocky with its strange alien powers of perception, and immediately chose to give Rocky a name that conveys "you resemble the fundamental core of what all your people essentially are and aspire to be". And he said it was obvious.
Okay but teacher Grace on Erid having very little say in which kids get filtered into his class, though he is aware that the selection process is super specific and that most of the kids he gets are high performers with star academics and some even with influential parents. He isn't quite comfortable enough with Eridian culture yet to object to the selection process and make it more inclusive, however. That is, until he learns about the special needs kids.
Obviously, there are Eridian kids with special needs, and a few of them even filter into his classes. But one specific type of special needs kid has never shown up in his classes, and the only reason he even learned of the condition is because Rocky and Adrien's first pebble has the condition.
It's initially quite a struggle for them to deal with, and Grace sympathizes of course, because the child will apparently have huge learning and academic struggles and will likely never be able to live on their own. That is, until he learns the details of the disability.
Basically, it's a condition where the part of the Eridian brain that gives them their eidetic memory isn't fully developed, and so these kids just... can't remember things the way most eridians do. And in a culture where an eidetic memory is the norm, all things cater to that, so not having that is actually a massive disability.
But Grace is like, so... this kid just learns the same way a human does, or something like. Which is nothing new to him, though he is somewhat boggled at how much Rocky and Adrian struggle with their infant and their "slow" learning curve, even as far as initial developmental stages. Grace, on the other hand, simply treats the kid the same way he would a human infant, and Rocky and Adrien are impressed with his patience.
But, through this, it occurs to Grace that there must be other kids out there with this disability who likely aren't getting the attention and chances in life that they deserve, because Eridian culture is particularly hostile toward this disability, and actively views those with it as unable to function in regular society.
So Grace demands that a special course be put together where he teaches kids with this disability specifically. Rocky is hesitant, as most kids with this disability are home schooled and kind of... kept shut away. But Grace insists and as one of Erid's saviors, he gets what he wants eventually.
His first class is super small, maybe only three kids because so few parents were willing to advertise that their children have this disability. And because of the stigma around it, even those who agreed to it are super unsure and want to be present during the lessons, perhaps paranoid about the impression it will leave on Savior Grace, who is so accustomed to only teaching the most gifted students.
But Grace knows exactly how to deal with these kids. Some of them have varying degrees of function when it comes to their memory banks, which isn't so unlike teaching kids on earth. And so Grace is able to introduce all these tools and teaching techniques that were previously unheard of on Erid (though very normal on Earth) like having textbooks for reference with you at all times and having strategies that are less focused on memorization for understanding, and providing these kids with tools like calculators and teaching them the art of taking notes to look back on, etc etc.
Suddenly, with all these tools that most Eridians don't need, these kids are learning at a much faster rate, and succeeding with the help of all their little tools. And because so many normal eridians are ignorant of Grace's actual biology, it's shocking to them that Savior Grace doesn't have an eidetic memory either (shocking to everyone but Rocky anyway)--that his brain functions quite similarly in capacity to these "disabled" children.
Once this news gets around, suddenly there's more kids in his special classes, and there's all kinds of discourse being inflamed because the real reason these kids can't live on their own or function is lack of support from Eridian society.
If Savior Grace, who is well respected as a genius in his own right amongst the Eridians, can function so successfully, they why can't these kids?
I dunno, I just think it's an interesting premise.

i also need you all to know the actual translation of "pebble" isnt like the small rock pebble, it does literally translate to "baby" and simon would hear it as "baby". i wrote "pebble" because grace translated eridian babies as "pebbles" for his own amusement. therefore: you, the viewer, get the grace terminology.
hoooo buddy this one is a three-fer. i couldn't fit everything i wanted on the dual pages and adding a whole other double page felt like a lot, ergo: 3 of them
guess who's baaaccckkkk (its been like barely any time lol).
anyway, for some clarification, I put the events of Iron Lung in 379 eic. its never specified in the film (or the game? not sure about that one) what year it is, so i made it 379 eic for various timeline purposes that will be revealed later. Simon also told them this year in the previous page, if that wasn't clear. i just felt that he wouldnt mention it in the journal cuz like. he already knows the year, he's not gonna write it down.

alright that's the end of the scheduled uploads. lets see what happens to my upload schedule now.... also i have such an idea for each panel on that first page so im writing in what little task are happening in each in the close ups section
First - Previous - Next
close ups (+ transcript) \/
^ simon is making it up to rocky, helping him fix rocky's bed. this takes MUCH less time to do than when grace initially helped build it, despite 1 less limb in the equation
^ simon and grace are divvying up the clothes they have, seeing who gets what and which clothes they're gonna share. simon basically says "whatever" to "owning" any of the clothes options, despite grace's best effort to get simon to claim some clothes for his own
^ grace and rocky have a show they've been watching episodically day by day (just as an activity for them to look forward to and not go stir crazy), and damn them if some blood covered mutant human is gonna break their streak. you can headcannon for yourself what show it is
Theories:
1. They're an independent group of scientists that are paid to do illegal experiments by 3rd parties. Explains why they're lying about their experiments (you can't just "save stars") and maybe Rocky (Robot made by Grace? ACTUAL alien?) Will likely do psychological experiments on me, may have already started. Keep on your toes.
2. We're on the other side of the QR. Don't wanna think about this one too much, it'll hurt if it turns out to be wrong.
3. Honestly not sure about time travel. I never learned much about Earth history, but the year they're telling me (2026/2039 ad, EIC started around 1990ad I think?) makes no sense. They seemed confused when I used EIC and IMC. Our historical timelines don't match, but it's be bizarre to lie about...
you should all be so proud of me, i did real math. kudos to anyone who figures out why i used those numbers/what they mean specifically. also i thought too much about simon's first time in years eating Food With Flavor so i made a mini comic \/

What I've picked up on:
1. They can't be hallucinations. There's no way I could make any of this up. I'm not sure the Eel would stoop this low either.
2. They're RICH. Food, oxygen, water, plants <- they feel like the Mother
Food may be a problem, though. I eavesdropped.
3. They're scientists and they wanna experiment on me. Haven't said it out loud, but I can read between the lines. Guess I gotta prepare for that.
4. They're both from planets, Grace is directly from Earth. The idea of not being from Earth specifically is foreign (No space colonization?)
5. They're the only ones on the ship. Other crew seem to have died (there's 3 human beds)
6. Definitely not Eden, probably not COI. They care about "progress" like the COI, but the COI wouldn't waste this amount of resources on 3 people
