it is medically defined as: "an excessive preoccupation with sexual thoughts, urges, desires, fantasies, or behaviors that may cause distress or that negatively affects health, job, or relationships." several things can cause hypersexuality, such as various mental illnesses and abuse (especially sexual abuse).

like any other condition/disorder, it is not chosen to have. i do believe there are treatments, but i think it depends on the cause of it.
