I absolutely love that some panels from Heartstopper feature on this cover. My prose novel/novella publisher HarperCollins Children’s have been amazing in working with Hachette, who publish Heartstopper, to bring together my two worlds. I’m so happy HarperCollins believed in this story (originally released in 2015) enough to give it a physical edition!!

This story is set about two years after where we currently are in Heartstopper. Nick is about to go off to university, and Charlie’s not sure how he feels about that…

finally got over art block / managed to ignore my responsibilities (exams are so stressful i wish i were a rock) for long enough to finish a drawing again so!!

I am not afraid. I was born for this.

A new ADSOM papercraft exclusively designed for a campfire mug item in the @illumicrate​ August 2019 box.

I love working in the aesthetics of @veschwab. Such a great contrast piece; the red and grey coats over their contrasting backgrounds worked wonderfully here. This was actually a really brittle design to work with, especially Kell’s magic circle – but I found the challenge to be experimental and helped me explore the limitations of the paper durability and structure.

If you think I’m going to take a 15 second joke to its extreme endgame, then you know me well. IF you think I’m going to take so long to do it because of my absolutely busy schedule, but enjoy the challenge so much even if the joke is completely stale, then you know me very well!

The atmosphere of this book is incredible. It’s so whimsical and mysterious

The writing is very visual

It has a pretty unique format, with small interludes written in second person perspective to make the reader feel as though they are personally witnessing the magic of the circus

I adored all of the characters, especially Poppet and Widget

Minus

It just feels a little lacking. Considering the whole premise is built on a competition involving magic, it didn’t feel like it went as in-depth with the competition or the magic as it could have

The pacing is a little off. Very little happens for the first half, and then everything seems to be happening at once very, very quickly

Could have done with more backstory on Alexander, Hector, and their previous competitions in order to put the current competition and the stakes into context
