Disability rights are not abstract concepts… They are about sidewalks with curb cuts; public buildings with accessible bathrooms; and buses with lifts.

Cop shootings by race/per million: 1.47 white people vs 31.17 black people. And people really want to believe that the outrage is simply over one murdered black teenager.
I designed and printed these to distribute when I was in NYC yesterday
Anyone, feel free to download this and distribute your own copies (especially at protests or demonstrations where many people will be walking by!) I added in the feeding America link because regardless of what people think about what’s going on in Ferguson, they should take the initiative to get involved in their own communities.
these can be distributed as full pages or cut out into individuals
you can click and drag it from tumblr or download it from my deviantart
This is why black people everywhere were skeptical about the new initiative of putting body cameras on cops.
Eric Garner’s death was caught on full length video and nothing can justify the means in which he was executed, unless you believe in the disparagement of black life to begin with. A grand jury ruled his death a non crime. Not even worthy of heading to trial. Why? Because black life means nothing in this country. Simple.
In theory, we should support cameras on police officers. But not because of some naive expectance that justice will arise from a state that has a 400+ year investment in the demoralization of black bodies. That erodes the pervasive nature of institutionalized anti black racism itself. It should be because Eric Garner’s loved ones foremost and pursuers of justice deserve to know exactly what happened to him.
The judicial system does not recognize the value of black life and subsequently the tragedy of black death. It never has and never will. Cameras aren’t the missing element which will change that.

Why there was never going to be justice for Eric Garner, in one chartÂ
Only 33% of police officers facing felony charges are convicted, as opposed to 68% of civilians. Most of the 33% who are convicted don’t even face jail time.
This isn’t because police officers are innocent paragons of virtue, but because the system is inherently biased in favor of law enforcement.

A post that brilliantly explains why “Men’s Rights Activists” are misguided and why the oppression that men face in our culture is not a result of “misandry” but of misogyny.
"You’re fighting for the right to contain and control misogyny, and direct it back at women, where you think it belongs."
And there it is.
Damn.
An appeals court in New Orleans on Wednesday stayed the execution of a Texas man, in a case that has gained national attention as a test for issues surrounding the execution of the mentally ill. The court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, postponed the execution, saying that it needed time to consider the larger issues surrounding the case. The court said a hearing would be scheduled to consider the case. The man, Scott Panetti, 56, was scheduled to be executed Wednesday in the 1992 slaying of his wife’s parents with a deer rifle as his horrified wife and daughter looked on. Mr. Panetti represented himself at his subsequent trial, wearing a cowboy costume with a purple bandanna while trying to call more than 200 witnesses, including the pope, John F. Kennedy and Jesus…. Mr. Panetti’s lawyers contend that he has suffered from schizophrenia for more than three decades and on Monday, they urged federal courts, including the Supreme Court, to intervene on the grounds that putting a mentally ill person to death was unconstitutional and violated the Eighth Amendment’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

WAKE UP!!!
Black and brown people are dying by the hands of the police and we are okay with it? A 12 year old, a 7 year old, and 18 year old, a 43 year old. I’m so tired of people making the excuse, well he was a thug or he resisted arrest. Well the 7 year old girl who was shot while sleeping, was she a thug? Or a man who was recently stopped by police for having his hands in his pockets, was he a thug? So many innocent people of color are dying and we can’t sit by. Whether it’s by pen or protest, we must get the word out that this type of misconduct will not be allowed.

The tragic reality of Eric Garner’s deathÂ
Nobody cares what’s happening in Mexico Today the government spoke. They told us the 43 students are likely death and that the killers burned their bodies. We have nothing. Not the bodies , not the truth. Nothing. We don’t believe them. We need evidence. We need help. Please help us, spread what’s happening in Mexico. It’s a crime to be a student in Mexico. We are being repressed and we need international preassure for answers and for the government to take action or to resign if they are unable to manage this human rights crisis. #vivosselosllevaronvivoslosqueremos
Please reblog the shit out of this. We need that everyone knows about this. In Mexico, the State is killing students and the murderers are getting away with it! The police kidnapped 43 students under the command of the local authorities of Iguala and no one is being punished for this atrocious crime! We can’t trust our authorities and they must answer for this crime, they must fulfill their obligation to ensure justice and to safeguard the rule of law. Please, help us to spread the voice and join us in the demand of justice. The international support has been crucial and we can’t stop fighting now. We have to take a stand for our people!

Mitch McConnell's Wildest Dreams Are In The Hands Of House Tea Partiers
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been dreaming about cutting major deals as Senate majority leader for most of his career. Next year, he’ll finally get the chance to do it with the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the most ambitious free trade agreement since the Clinton era. The only thing standing in his way is his own political party.
