Imagine Baelor getting Valarr a new set of armour for his most recent name day. It’s not as gaudy and flashy as aerions monstrosity but it’s sleek, chic, and just to his tastes. He admires the smooth black ridges and runs his ands over the Targaryen crest absentmindedly whenever he’s wearing it.

He’s had armour before of course, nice armour even. It’s been a long time since he’s graduated from the shitty armour of the training yard. But this feel different. He’s a man-grown now, and it suits that feeling of fresh adulthood.

He decides to debut it at the Ashford tourney, where his family will be going to represent their house. His father commends him on the idea, saying it will impress the realm… well we all know what happens from there.

In the aftermath, he sits in his room for hours on end, just holding the helmet. Sometimes, he thinks if he looks close enough, if the candle light shines just right, he can see specks of his father’s blood, chucks of his skull still clinging to the metal. It’s ridiculous he knows, the silent sisters had cleaned the piece throughly before giving it to him. But he looks all the same, despite it giving him nightmares for weeks on end.

He doesn’t think he can stomach wearing the armour again. But it was a gift from his father, one of the last things he got him. So he cant bear parting with it either. So it sits in a dark corner of his room, and occasionally he’ll just stand there and stare at it until a servant comes to tend to the hearth, or something, and breaks him out of his trance.
