Series: Alfred J. Kwak (1989-1990)
This children’s show covers mature and sad themes along with social and political issues, such as abuse of power, and teaches friendship and solidarity.
The political themes specifically touch on Alfred fighting against a fascist dictator (with allegories to Nazism), takes in refugees who fled from a country under Apartheid, saves whales from hunters, and oversees the changeover of his county’s political system.
Alfred’s girlfriend Winnie (the Black duck), traveled from South Africa with her family, to the Great Waterlands as refugees, escaping their country which was taken over by white geese during Apartheid. She and Alfred also have many adventures together!
