You, Me and Yaxley FC

Uh huh. Off field stuff has happened this week.

You have to feel a large amount of sympathy for Wilks, his staff and the players of Yaxley Football Club.

Whilst they don't know whether their matches are on or home matches are being played 25 miles away, they are now trying to fight a relegation battle.

Yesterday was every fan's worst nightmare. A decent first half performanc,e which still saw the team 2-0 down.

They never gave up or stopped running, but the game was gone, and fair play to Godmanchester on their win.

Not that they could celebrate with a well-earned pint. The bar was closed for some reason that appeared to have the facilities operator blaming the football club. There is clearly serious bad blood. He could barely bring himself to say "Yaxley Football Club" when reading the teams out.

Having founded his own new club Yaxley United, this week, banned the youth of Yaxley FC from the club, but I understand been keen to allow them to train if they join his club...

Oh forget it... what's the point ? There is so much positioning and smoke and mirrors going on here between everyone that the fans are getting royally dumped on from an increasingly great height.

Not that you could see that happening. The facilities operator didn't want to turn the floodlights on, complaining about an unpaid bill.

A once proud and well-respected football club is now struggling to survive.

And even if this mess over who does what and is responsible for what is ever sorted out, the reputational damage to YFC is going take years to put right.

Well, fellow Cuckoos fans. We made it. We made it to the end of a year that rivalled the Sammy Mould era for off-the-field drama, anger, and accusation.

For one dark weekend, it looked like the club we knew and loved had been killed off when the FA suspended all of the club's teams.

Thankfully, whatever had caused the governing body to take that action was resolved, and despite mixed results since, we have been able to complete our fixtures.

The old committee was replaced by a new one full of new ideas and steady YFC experienced hands. My wish is that they are now given time to put their ideas into place, and for Leading Drove to be harmonious and positive.

Season 2024/2025 ended with a strange run of results. We started the calendar year with the Chairman issuing a statement that all was well financially, but that seemed to prequel a lot of player turnover.

Relegation looked like it could creep up on us, but key members of the squad returned and ensured our step 5 safety.

Despite perceived off-field issues, Wilkins Makate kept his team going until the final day of the season and produced (in my opinion) one of the best seasons by a YFC manager in history.

Although if he keeps us up this season, that might be even better.

The 2025/26 season was barely underway when the suspension was announced, and the club was in a state of soul-searching for its very survival.

But here we are, and the original Yaxley Football Club survives.

We are a long way from the club that won the UCL in 2018, and Step 4 is a pipe dream. Look at how Bourne has started in that league despite their riches.

But let's hope 2026 brings some long awaited stability and success for the club.

Hooray !!! some revenge for YFC after an earlier cup defeat to the same opposition.

I don't want to talk about the past, I don't want to speculate on what has gone on.

I just want people to care about the Cuckoos and get along this weekend to support the team and their community kick off day.
