My roommate has an interesting theory about Five Nights at Freddy’s 4
A popular theory going around is that you are playing as the Purple Guy’s son. But my roommate came up with a theory that really gives me the chills the longer she explained it to me.
She thinks you’re not playing as the purple guy’s kid. But the purple man himself. AS AN ADULT.
Now, you might be thinking that sounds ridiculous because of the low angle the protagonist takes when shining the flashlight on the doors, closet, and bed. But my roommate offered the explanation that the purple dude would be crawling along the floor, in a child-like manner. The person is obviously crawling because of the lovely view you have to endure of the floor when moving from place to place.
As an adult, you could be kneeling by the door and still have that ‘looking up’ vantage point while being able to shut the door easily, something a kid would also not be able to do. Holding a door shut is serious business and while the animatronics aren’t exactly tearing at it, kids get tired easily.
WHICH BRINGS US TO POINT NUMBER TWO. I don’t know if you guys have kids or siblings, but kids cannot and will not stay up six hours at night, for a week and function in the day at all. They couldn’t go to school like that, no one would turn a blind eye to it, you notice a tired kid because they make themselves noticed. Plus, have you ever seen a kid try to stay awake? Kids can sleep literally anywhere and in the blink of an eye. It’s not realistic- as if a game about killer animatronics has to be. However- a man who works such secluded hours or in the daytime could easily stay up at night and end up snoozing on the job.
Which harkens to the next point of my roommate’s explanation. The minigames between the days are memories of the purple guy’s childhood he has when he’s dreaming in the day. From the three cutscenes we have seen, courtesy of markiplier, the young man starts off in his room with the plushies, unable to get out- five days before a party. The day counter is only in these minigames and in the same atari style, and not actually present at night when you are dealing with the animatronics- putting the date of this party in the past. the most prevalent plushie in the room the kid starts out in being golden freddy who is literally watching him. From there, there’s the cutscene exploring the house- seeing mangle and getting scared by the person wearing the foxy head, and the last one of the boy at a restaurant with animatronics.
which restaurant? Fredbear’s family diner. Because of the two animatronics shadows we see on stage being a bunny silhouette and a bear silhouette, the golden freddy posters, and the golden freddy suited man, it is obviously set before the spring trap suit incident which was in the first freddy fazbear’s diner, and since the location seems very small in addition, it would logically be the fredbear’s family diner.
this was be one of the first incidences of trauma the childhood purple man faced. the boy seemed to be bewteen the age of 8-12 because of his mental reasoning and size. he seemed to be very afraid of the animatronics, after being left somewhere he obviously and clearly hates. as he encounters the golden suited man he flees in terror in the opposite direction but is paralyzed in fear by the two animatronics he ends up facing. so when the boy says he has to go the opposite direction towards the exit he seems to want to avoid all animatronics and animatronic like things, all together.Â
so after this first incident of trauma, my roommate believes that he developed an alternate personality to deal with the issues he had at freddy’s since he was abandoned there. his brain created two separate personalities- one childlike one and one more adult to deal with the different issues he would encounter.
some symptoms of dissociative identity disorder or multiple personality disorders are sleep disorders like insomnia, night terrors WITH AUDITORY AND VISUAL HALLUCINATIONS (LIKE THE ANIMATRONICS COMIN FOR YOUR BUNS AT NIGHT.), panic attacks, and anxiety caused by flashbacks or triggers (ie a diner that caused a lot of issues in your childhood threatened with closure) that sends you into an episode which can result in extreme violence. if the purple man had these two personalities, one childlike, there would probably be indicators to keep that side happy.
such as the toys in the room. they appeal to both sides and also give little easter eggy clues about the purple man. the purple fan. the phone with the purple eyes- a popular theory is the phone guy is the purple man and they are one in the same, so Scott may have been confirming or just being a tease as per usual. we don't know- and the purple robot in the corner. being purple and a machine shows the purple guys animatronic ties as well as his technologic aspect- because he was able to dismantle the animatronics as seen in the fnaf 3 minigames- and perhaps tamper with the animatronics in fnaf2 as the phone guy states someone has been. if he has dissociative identity disorder he may have no recollection of his actions tampering with the electronics at the time of the call and one last toy- the flashtrap in the minigame being the suit the purple guy ends up being killed in being turned into a zipper mouthed, empty headed doll with no shadowed head- like a mascot suit with no mascot head showing the person inside.
or have any memory of actions involving extreme violence to children. the purple man would have fixated on fredbear’s once this trauma occurred, one side repressed and ignorant, believing this restaurant to be a happy place, the other facing still even more trauma in the setting or the setting being threatened. he grew up with this trauma and the restaurant. not a long stretch of time if the boy was already over the age of. fredbear’s was more than likey successful for many years before the generation gap began and one animatronic wasn’t enough anymore. the pruple man would have been late teens early twenties when the decline began and he witnessed the crying child outside- his first kill. because of this previous fixation he wanted or needed to become an integral part of the process of fredbears/freddy’s. the first kill outside the restaurant was probably a crime of passion/recognition- seeing the fearful and crying child triggered the memories of his abandonment and he needed to eliminate it to reconcile the rift- but it only deepened it as fredbear’s had to sell its business shortly after the tragedy- removing the ‘happy place’ from the purple man’s child self.
so when freddy’s opened up -he had to be a part of it, it was a new chance. a new restaurant a new hope to have that happiness that fredbear’s didn’t give him. and the cycle begins to repeat. maybe because of the supernatural element. the puppet or the ghost of the crying child being around and giving him no peace. making him kill again and again and the children in the suits making the animatronics frightening again as in his youth. it isnt perfect- not in his control.Â
and it continues to spiral out of control after that.
but this is only a theory. there’s still many unknowns based on possible predictions and i didn’t manage to get all her points because im not a goddamn stenographer. and it’s been over an hour now since we began the talk and began typing this and my brain is poo.Â
so give me your thoughts and theories and all that goodness, if you agree, or disagree and why. we tried to use evidence though, so saying we’re wrong because we’re dumb is not a valid response. we like conversations and additional theories. lay them on us!
