here we go

From my experience, people learn to deal with depression in different ways. If you can, get professional help. Having a therapist, counselor, whoever it is, someone who really understands what’s going on will help. If you think you can’t afford a therapist, look for free counselling or try calling helplines, who can also direct you to resources available to you. Other than that, I’m not sure what you’ve tried, but here’s a few things that I know helped me and others I know.

Get out of bed and do something, big or small. On some days, it’ll be tough just to get up and take a shower, but trust me when I say that you’ve got to try. Do those mundane things, eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, whatever you want. And then go from there. If your friends or family are inviting you out, go along. That was one of the hardest things I had to learn to do, because for longest time I only wanted to lay in bed all day. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t wake up one day and decide that I felt like going out. It was always hard, but knowing that I was putting myself in situations where I could be happy, even for a little while, got me to go through. 

Try exercise. A lot of people recommend this, and you don’t have to do anything too intense, either. Even a quick walk around the neighbourhood could help. (Funny story: when I met Y/N, I was still struggling to deal with my depression, and at the time, she on the basketball team at our school because her friends roped her into it. I love Y/N, I really do, but she’s awful at ball. So she came and asked me to help her out. It was useless (our team lost almost every game), but it got me to move a little bit, which really helped).

Meditation works for some people. I couldn’t get myself to do it, but it worked with one of my closest friends.

Talk to your friends, your family, coworkers, whoever you’re comfortable with. Even if you know they don’t understand what you’re going through, getting a thoughtful text out of nowhere can do a lot on a bad day.
