THESE JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER
THESE MAKE ME WANNA CRY
Ugh, I love Overwatch so much.
So, good news: the kitchen shared some deep fried fish with my shift lunch today. The bad news is I've discovered the restaurant is a member of an intergalactic syndicate, and this is what they do with those who do not pay their debts. #whathaveigottenmyselfinto #herecomethemeninblack #umamiconsequences #dontfuckwithmythaibelmont (at Mai Thai Portland)
To whom it may concern,
You wake up one day and your face is made of glass. You look down at your body like a city, from a skyscraper. Saying ‘I’m supposed to be living here’. You feel the air wilt as car doors slam; watch window cleaners squee your fingers dry; hear the elevator ding behind your ears, jammed full of other people; see your ankle bone out there in the boonies by your house; and say hey I don’t remember taking out the trash this morning. You know someone on the 40th floor below is screaming about it and have a hunch you ought to join them but that’s none of your business now. Just turn your head and smile. Scratch 31st until it bleeds. Clock in late at the corner of your mouth. Pick up the cigarette butts. Count the till. Hope no one’s stolen away with your DNA. Of course the floor keeps shaking, like someone’s playing music and all you want to do is dance with them believe there’s somewhere else you got to be believe one day you'll just skip town on a text message. At the very least you know how it will start: “To whom it may concern, I found your number. It was nailed to a daydream...”
Love poems are dangerous
Love poems are dangerous because I am made of paper. Because I want you to draw all over me, please, if you want. Start with a thirsty furnace an ankle on a knee two shirts atop a steep breath a worthy handshake 6 glasses of water and chopsticks that click and stitter like light-bulb filaments armfuls of freckles. Flick a shiver off your shoulder hear it fly under my tongue, it tastes like salt, like lips and spoon, a bowl of ramen broth left-over noodles and the sweat of waiting for your text, it tears me into a thousand little train tickets that when it comes I have confetti streaming from the top floor, what a mess. I want to ride to all of those places one after the other. At the end of the line sits you with a gentle fire, that me, beside, all full of everything till now, will catch, and curl, and cast the light that you may see these words through your green eyes.
Right Rest
Today’s got a right rest, like a dark star ballroom dance, like sunbathing in a handstand graveyard, like we’ve compacted radio gas into a go cart: and we’re sliding by the traction of our eye contact. When you cheat death for me, I’ll pass the dance right back to you, because it’s yours.
Still, I put one foot on your bottom step and feel my belly button like a boom box and know that I can want you, like you, tell you and leave you well enough alone so your roots grow that much deeper.
I’m catching all the right flames in my canines, still chewing on my silence, still sailing to the moon. Yes, I can shatter all the sky by just saying your name by dropping words in the canyon water. This stream it’s dancing with me, growing oranges entertaining ghosts that can’t help but walk through walls the never did in life dance hours hoping they don’t fall through the floor again, stepping aside for justice and her unicorn.
She says “sit up tall, open your mouth when you sing. Friend, what color is your open palm? When there’s paint flowing down your fingertips, who’s still willing to shake your hand? How many tyrants can you topple with a whisper?”
I own my eyes now. Have them more or less on a leash. They know where they live and see Urza Major on a windless night, by silent wind chimes and a bag of clean clothes.

I look astonishingly grumpy in the photo, and I really wasn’t, but that was the one they chose. I wish the rest of the photos from that Minneapolis photoshoot were around: they were the only photos of me and Tori at that stage of our lives…
My Steering Wheel
My steering wheel is the dead head of a giant sunflower. Each seed bay reckons to the sunset facing somewhere toward the center. I hold a whole season in my hands, and I am sad. I cannot turn this wheel faster than the hands of the clock. It sums up to every reason I’ve ever felt not good enough: My mistook menagerie. These fragile excuses once were fresh & oozing sap. I could buckle & shiver in the moonlight, and with my heavy eyes I still had the benefit of the doubt.
But now, when I shake my course, I cover roses all Octobered with the dust of summer nights. Baking poems I can eat in a cast iron pan, I crawl into a corner. I am covered so in chocolate. I sweat chocolate. I have chocolate rolling down my neck & I cannot tell what is creepier: That I tell the roses: I am watching you live, now. Or that I tell them: I am watching you die, now. Or that I’m talking to the flowers in the first place.
Last month I shaved the nubs off my unmet puzzle pieces & turned them into poker chips in a bet against my loneliness. I was biting my fingernails when I fell in love with entropy. It only raised the stakes. That’s when I folded my hands into my diaphragm & it told me “We’re gonna be friends now. Like the three of hearts and Temperance, we’ll ride this stomach down the rapids through the whirlwind. Trade your flower for the oar. Brave the surf at winter’s height.” And since then I’ve been spinning my solitude like a top on the tip of my finger. Crunching leaves when I walk down the street saying:
This is me. This is me. This is me.
