Mikey X Reader | Let the Light In
Thunder rolled overhead and big, fat drops of rain came down on Mikey as he made his way to your apartment. He was on a solo mission, one he always prioritized with the utmost importance: cheering up his partner.
Your texts didn’t arrive as quickly as they normally did today, and it was hard to get more than a sentence or two out of you for a reply. He wasn’t upset though. He knew you, and he just wanted to make sure that he was there to help if you needed him. So now he was doing his best not to slip on the railing as he climbed your fire escape and started to open your window.
The familiar faces that usually greeted him upon entering couldn’t be seen, but after a brief look into the room it wasn’t hard to see where you were. There was a lump under all the blankets on your bed that was about your size. Mikey stepped in carefully, trying not to drip water all over your floor.
“Y/n?” He asked, as if you were still missing. He tiptoed quietly to your bed but continued to glance around the room. “Anybody home?”
Mikey couldn’t help but laugh a little at the unmistakable sound of a meow, muffled from the blankets. He took the corner of the sheets between his fingers and gently lifted it up to see his favorite faces.
“Hey, angel,” he spoke softly, seeing your tired expression. You smiled too, but the corners of your mouth seemed like they were too heavy to lift.
“Hey,” you responded, watching as your cat didn’t hesitate to start rubbing up against Mikey’s large hand.
“Oh, big sunshine boy,” Mikey smiled as he pet and scratched him in all his favorite places. Once he rolled over Mikey began to rub his belly, and he feigned pain as the cat started kicking him and biting his fingers. The amusing sight helped you to smile a little easier.
“We’ve been bedrotting,” you confessed with a sigh. Mikey looked up and met your eyes and those sweet baby blues made you wanna spill everything to him.
“Bad day?” He asked simply.
“It’s okay,” he said, reaching to kiss your forehead. “Lemme get dried off and then we’ll have a cuddle therapy session,” he smiled. You watched lovingly as he walked away, and at the ball of fluff that followed close on his heels.
After a minute or two Mikey came back with said fluffball in his arms. He protested upon being put down, but once Mikey got settled into bed with you, he immediately went to his preferred spot: sandwiched between you and Mikey.
Mikey pulled the covers back over your head, so you were both hiding from the outside world together. He rubbed your arm gently and his voice came out soft and quiet in the dark.
So you did. You told him about things that have been bothering you, stuff that made you feel mad and sad and scared. Mikey could hear you getting choked up so he reached to wipe away your tears. You held his hand to your face and took solace in the touch, letting the feeling of his cool, calloused palm and the sounds of loud purring in between you ground you back to the present moment. You felt a lot lighter, and a little more capable of tackling the next day. For now though, you just wanted to stay here, warm and safe with your two favorite boys.
“Thank you,” you whispered, and Mikey leaned forward to press another kiss on your forehead.
“Baby, you know I’ve got you,” he said, and the sound of his smile was enough to bring one to your face too- a real one. “I’m always here for you. And so is big and spoiled,” Mikey grinned, referring to the cat that was now snoozing comfortably between you. “You’re not alone.”
As the heavy rain continued to fall outside, you let the truth of his words settle into your bones, and you breathed a little easier. You weren’t alone. You’re safe and loved, and you smiled into your pillow when you realized that, maybe, you were a little spoiled too.
