being in the whump community is genuinely so funny bc someone will unironically say some shit like βiβve really been into head injuries latelyβ
If I keep practicing I might even be a person soon

y'know i used to be on team "whump is kind of a silly word and i wish it was called something different," but these days i think i'm more on the side of "the word 'whump' is a rent-lowering gunshot."
the concept of fictional characters being harmed is a universal storytelling device enjoyed by people outside of the whump community, for sure, but the word "whump" sounding as silly as it does can be a deterrent to people who take themselves maybe a tad too seriously. like almost nobody involves themselves in this community on a whim just because they heard the word "whump" and said to themselves "that sounds very cool and i almost definitely know what it means just from this one instance that i've heard it."
Polyamory hate is so funny cause its always like. Youre talking about your happy relationship and some rando get up to shout 'IM DEEPLY SEXUALLY INSECURE π‘π‘ALL MY RELATIONSHIPS ARE MISERABLE π‘π€¬π‘π€¬ AND IM MAD AT YOOOOOUUU"
History is so good for nosy people
people act like you are being rude simply because you tell them a truth they do not like
And people act like youre beind rude and wildly misinterpret you just because you speak plainly and dont couch it a million times
People will accept the same exact statement if you do it while coddling them but plain speech is treated as an attack
I am not being rude and I am not attacking you just because I dont feel like doing the emotional labor of parenting every person I talk to or jumping to deduce what possible ways they might be upset by something I said and preempting it. If I upset you, you can talk about it like an adult. Or else I will think you are acting like a child.
I've known a number of non binary people in my life and I think single biggest conclusion I can draw from that is that non binary people are not the same. Like if Men fit in box A and women fit in box B, people really, really want nonbinary people to fit in a theoretical box C, and it just doesn't work like that. They are outside the boxes. They defy any simple categorization because they are not a third way of being, but every other possible way of being.
Being supportive of binary people is relatively simple, they have decided to sort themselves into one of the boxes that we have lots of experience interacting with. Being supportive of nonbinary people can be comparatively tricky, because you have to resist the urge to create box C and drop them all there. That's how we end up with various prejudices like "woman lite". Humans really, really like to categorize things. It helps us think. Unfortunately, sometimes it helps us think wrong.
If you have a non binary person in your life, I think it is important to take the extra effort to learn about them specifically.

i think something a lot of people don't get is that years of mocking your child, even in jest, does in fact tend to get under their skin
a decade or two of even light verbal harassment is very much accentuated when it's an authority figure you are in every meaningful way subservient to
a leucistic cedar waxwing was photographed by cory elowe in delta, michigan. leucism is a genetic mutation similar to albinism, but differs in that leucism is only a partial reduction in pigmentation, while albinism is a complete lack of melanin. some faint coloration and yellow markings are still visible on this leucistic bird; a typical cedar waxwing is brown overall with distinctive red and yellow markings, and a distinct black mask.
every time a gay ship becomes popular the discourse pretty much boils down to ''shipping men is so misogynistic but what else do we expect from stupid fucking women''
"your source is so cringeeee why are you obsessed with it" you fool. you ignoramus. you absolute ninny. was narcissus obsessed with the water or with himself.

Honestly a lot of therapy feels like pathologizing perfectly reasonable things to protect yourself in an abusive culture. Like yes I am doing it more because I was abused and traumatized. Yes it is a defense mechanism. But the reason it is defensive is because it will protect you. And sometimes it is harmful or done when not needed. But I feel like its too quick to be like. 'You are doing avoidance, which is a defense mechanism, and therefore bad' when like. Sometimes thats the right thing to do. 'You are threat analyzing too much' the world is full of threats. Sorry I caught you gaslighting me. I know you would prefer if I was complacant but thats not actually something wrong with me. i would like to threat analyze less too but the abuse has taught me the world is full of threats and thats not incorrect.
I have problems talking to people because I find their masks completely and utterly boring. The vent channel is one of the only places I talk in a discord server I don't personally run, because people will actually talk about things meaningful to them and appreciate it if I speak meaningfully back. If I'm talking one on one to someone, I don't really latch unless theyre also an oversharer, or at least unless they can mirror my level of openness back. Talk about something real or gtfo.
So many people try to erase anything meaningful or interesting about themselves. And it makes them neither meaningful nor interesting. Such is life.
Honestly I think part of this is the fault of this culture we have where people act like mentioning anything remotely negative is automatically "venting" and further more venting is automatically bad and unsightly, something not to be done with strangers or in public and sometimes not even with friends and should only be saved for a therapist because of "making people do emotional labor" or whatever the fuck lol.
When like I can mention my mother abused me and it not be venting. Its just a fact of my life, and it affects the entire rest of my life. And I feel like I should and I do bring that up in casual conversation when its relevant. But a lot of people feel like thats not allowed, and they sand off all their rough edges for fear of scratching someone on them but that just makes everyone into the same fucking flat surface I can't find any purchase on.
