I find it so interesting how in both, their left eye had been covered, almost as if foreshadowing the end from the very start. Even their positioning and expression is the same. But most of all, the way they always held full admiration and attention towards Levi from day one and expressed it fully through their eyes alone. Hange truly always was fascinated by Levi from start to finish.

From pure shock at being greeted as an equal for the first time, to powerlessly watching the one connection he never imagined he could build but eventually cherished the most, go. From a stranger he didn't care about and thought expendable to someone he didn't want to let go.
Hange's impact on Levi's life was evidently deep. Despite his apprehensiveness at the start towards them, he never forgot their first meeting and kept it deep in his heart. Even referring back to their first words to him when they met during their send off. Truly melancholic when you think about it, using your hellos in your goodbyes.
In the end Levi not only lost the first person that befriended him for no other reason that truly wanting to get to know him as a person. He also lost his longest companion and the one he could envision getting through the war with. If there was one glimmer of keeping someone important to him alive, it was Hange. But unfortunately fate wasn't kind to them in this lifetime.
