eventually i wanna write a detailed post on flowery's optimism and how deeply hypocritical it is, especially taken in context of ralsei and how theyre both more similar than either of them can ever meaningful acknowledge. "im serving the lightners because its what im meant to do im meant to be useful" vs "im serving the lightners even though im supposed to just be a useless pretty flower." he must know on some level that hes not actually that much more self-actualized than ralsei is. flowery has been alive for like five minutes and has already constructed twenty layers of silly goofy manic pixie enthusiasm so he can lead the flowers and make asgore happy and save the day and make a better world and power of friendship and power of love and and and
and sure, he wasnt meant to do any of that, there is a wonderful defiance in choosing to be this way, but ultimately he's still doing it all for the sake of his lightner. the parallels between ralsei-kris and flowery-asgore are not to be underestimated. ralsei knowing kris made the fountain and still keeps trying to dodge the topic and gently convince them to be heroic instead. flowery knowing asgore only cares about answers and still diverts him away from the fountain and rallies the flowers together to show asgore a better happier family. flowery failed. will ralsei fail too?
flowery is annoying toward ralsei and often teases, but there is a genuine recognition-of-self-through-the-other, and i don't think its a coincidence that flowery can only address ralsei honestly and earnestly, asking about prayer, calling her "princess", when they're alone together. flowery is trying to be so many things for so many different people. just as ralsei can't acknowledge flowery's desire for self-actualization without facing her own shame, flowery can't admit that he understands her feeling trapped without his whole "power of flowers" shield falling apart. how could a manic pixie dreamer like himself possibly relate to feeling bound by others and what you need to be for them?? thats silly!!!! thats the exact opposite of what he's doing!!!!!!! with the power of dreams, anything is possible!!! etcetera.
