NEW MINI STORY
SEEN
Nine shadows. One woman. A circle that was never empty.
She entered an asylum that didnât exist to interview the countryâs most dangerous men. She followed the rules. She asked the right questions.
The screams were always close. The chains were always real.
And the last truth was the one she was never allowed to ask.
TRAPPED IN WHITE A psychological horror about observation, institutional violence, and the moment you realize you were never the observer.
SEEN--------
The asylum does not look abandoned.
It watches.
Fluorescent lights buzz in the entry corridorânot flickering, but hesitating, as if deciding whether you deserve to see whatâs ahead. The air smells wrong. Antiseptic layered over something old and metallic, like blood scrubbed too many times from the same place.
You were told this place doesnât exist.
Seoulâs most elusive asylumâits name erased from records, its address missing from maps. A facility built not for rehabilitation, but for containment. For holding what the country could not execute without admitting it had created monsters of its own.
And now youâre inside it.
They take your belongings.
They donât give you a badge.
They donât explain the exits.
âYouâll be interviewing them as a group,â a voice tells you from behind a frosted glass wall. You never see who speaks. âNine subjects. High risk. Do not deviate from protocol.â
No protocol is given.
You follow the sound of footsteps until a door opens and pressure changes around youâdeep, sealed, final.
They do not turn the lights on.
The chamber exists in emergency glow only. A dim halo bleeds from the ceiling, just enough to reveal shapes, not faces. Shadows sit where men should be. Chains glint briefly, then vanish again.
You are guided forward by hands you never see.
The chair waits at the center.
It isnât bolted to the floor.
That should have frightened you more.
The door seals behind you with a hydraulic hiss that settles into your bones.
Nine voices surround you.
Not faces.
Not bodies.
Voices.
A calm one speaks first.
âBegin.â
You clear your throat. The sound feels too loud.
âHow did you coordinate without communicating?â
Silence stretches.
Then a voice answers from somewhere behind you.
âObservation creates language.â
Another voice, farther away:
âWe learned timing. Breath. Stillness.â
A third, amused:
âShe learned quickly.â
Your stomach tightens.
You shift in the chair, trying to orient yourselfâand make your first mistake.
âIs she still alive?â
The dark listens.
Then a voice exhales softly.
âThat was careless.â
A mechanical click sounds overhead.
Far belowâso far it feels unrealâsomething happens to a human body.
The scream that rises isnât loud.
Itâs wet.
Air forced through the damage.
Your hand flies to your mouth. Your knees jerk inward. You make a sound you donât recognize.
A gentle voice murmurs from the dark.
âShe inhaled blood that time.â
Your stomach revolts. You retch onto the floor.
No one reacts.
A hiss fills the room as antiseptic floods the air, sharp and burning. Your lungs seize. Tears stream down your face as you choke through it.
The sound stops only when you are still.
âContinue,â the calm voice says.
You donât know who youâre speaking to anymore.
That feels intentional.
âWhat did you make her say?â you ask.
A soft laugh ripples through the dark.
âShe begged.â
âThen bargained.â
âThen confessed.â
âNot because she was guilty,â another voice adds, âbut because guilt makes pain make sense.â
You hesitate.
You donât respond.
The silence thickens.
Then a voice speaks very close to you.
âWhy are you still here?â
Your pulse slams.
âBecause if I leave,â you say hoarsely, âshe dies.â
Immediately, another voice answers.
âThat wasnât the truth.â
Metal snaps.
Sharp. Final.
Something moves fast in the dark.
Chains scrape violently across concrete. A shadow surges into the dim haloâbare feet, swaying posture, hands already wet.
No alarm sounds.
No guards enter.
The figure hums softly as it reaches you.
Heat.
Touch.
Bloody fingers clamp around your wrist and smear something thick and warm across your skinâdrawing, not cutting.
The smell hits you a second later.
Iron. Bile. Something sweet gone wrong.
âPain reveals,â the voice whispers.
Then the chains scream.
The shadow is yanked backward mid-motion, laughter spilling out broken and ecstatic as it hits the floor.
The room settles.
A polite voice clears its throat.
âThat,â it says, âwas your third violation.â
The chair is dragged away.
Unseen hands guide you down until your knees hit the concrete.
You are on the floor now.
Inside the circle.
Time stops behaving after that.
You donât know how many sessions have passed.
You wake hungry. You wake bleeding. You wake with blood under your nails and no memory of earning it. Sometimes the symbol on your arm burns. Sometimes it itches like itâs healing wrong.
You ask anyway.
âWhen do I get to see her?â
Silence.
Then a voiceâsoft, almost regretful.
âYouâre still asking the wrong question.â
âI followed the rules,â you insist. âI stayed.â
A murmur passes through the dark.
âStayed,â someone repeats.
âYou never asked why,â the calm voice says gently.
âWhy what?â
A pause.
Thenâ
âWhy the screams always sound so close.â
Your breath stutters.
âNo,â you whisper. âSheâs below us. You saidââ
âWe said what you needed,â another voice interrupts calmly.
A new sound fills the room.
Breathing.
Amplified. Played back.
Your breathing.
Your chest tightens painfully as the sound syncs with your lungs.
âYou were brought in alive,â a voice says. âBarely.â
âMultiple fractures.â
âSignificant blood loss.â
âYou screamed beautifully.â
Your vision tilts.
âNo,â you sob. âI interviewed you. I watchedââ
âYes,â the calm voice says. âYou watched.â
Something warm drips onto your hand.
You look down.
Blood.
Fresh.
Yours.
The lights come up slightly.
Just enough.
You see the circle clearly for the first time.
The chains are not around them.
They are around you.
Your wrists.
Your ankles.
Your waist.
The symbol on your arm is fully visible now.
Not a punishment.
A tally.
Nine completed.
One remaining.
The calm voice kneels in front of you.
âYou gave us structure,â it says softly. âRules. Names. Purpose.â
Its face resolves in the dim light.
It is yours.
Bruised. Hollow. Smiling.
âThere was never another woman.â
Your scream tears out of youâraw, animal, real.
It echoes exactly like the ones youâve been hearing.
âWelcome,â the voice whispers.
âYouâre the Tenth Witness.â
The door does not open.
It never did.
