it’s not bad at all!! honestly i agree w you. i personally believe philanthropy like that is by and large a way for the rich to keep up appearances and act like they care about the poor while also not upsetting the capitalist system.

redistribution of wealth like you’re suggesting is a radical idea for those whose paychecks are signed by the very people who created and uphold the large wealth disparity to begin with. the non 1%ers have to placate the 1% to continue being in the top 10%. they gotta play the game by donating to the “right” charities

don’t even get me started on the ways some rich people use charitable donations as a way to something that starts with L and rhymes with pondering.

also while money is very helpful for these causes, i do think there’s something pretty gross about people with lots of money just throwing it at charities as opposed to getting their hands dirty. exorbitant wealth financially also comes with the wealth of time. they don’t need to work to survive in the same way the average person does. they can take time away to do good directly, many just choose not to. god forbid they have to interact with us poors™️

i WILL say as far as the idol component is concerned, i do give exception to my “taking time away” thing as they don’t really have control over their schedules enough to take those kinds of breaks. i also take less issue with large sums of money being donated to hospitals, but maybe that’s my naïveté in hoping that not all hospitals are evil and corrupt like some of these large charities are.

and since we’re talking about it, if any of y’all reading this are rich and looking for some charities/mutual aid networks to donate to that don’t suck, here are a few i recommend:

the audre lorde project - supporting queer, 2spirit, and trans bipoc in nyc. named after the amazing poet <3

ele elna elak - providing food, water, and other emergency relief to palestinians

the innocence project - fighting to get innocent people released from incarceration

noname book club - a program started by rapper noname to give incarcerated people access to black literature (see also her radical hood library)

please also consider donating to your local equivalent of the following kinds of mutual aid funds:

bail funds - helps post bail. usually for pre-trial incarceration

mask blocs - provides masks and other public health items to people who can’t afford them

local ice watchdog hotline - lots of states in the US have a grassroots hotline for you to call if you see ice, as well as providing resources for people who have been detained/whose loved ones have been detained.

abortion funds - support people seeking abortion access

trans support funds - non-binary people may not owe anyone androgyny but they probably do owe someone money. help em out. jkjk but like what these actually are is different based on where you live. but basically it’s financial support for our trans siblings <3

welcome to yap's picks, a series where i tell you some of my favorite shit. in honor of skz's new comeback, here are some of my favorite lines each member has sung/rapped. sometimes i'm limiting it to what feels like a line, not necessarily one line written on a lyric site.

info: this post is about the recorded version of the song. i'm focusing on the member's performance. i may include relevant production, lyric, or video elements, but the member's performance is the focus here. links on the song titles lead to youtube and start at the line i'm talking about

bang chan: 인정하기 싫어 (i hate to admit) line (korean): how could i forget / the day you lied to me / 밤새며 난 / i can't stop thinkin bout you line (romanized): how could i forget / the day you lied to me / bansaemyeo nan / i can't stop thinkin bout you the yap: the pain, the beauty!!! chan is a P E R F O R M E R and this part is infused with such emotion it is stunning. this line and this song sold me on chan as an artist. in some ways, stripped down songs like this are much harder to pull off than the bigger tracks. any inauthenticity shines bright in a song like this because you can't hide anything. chan didn't hide, he leans into the vulnerability and it's really clear in this line. the way he sings me fucking KILLS me it's so beautiful

lee know: 3rd eye line (korean): 난 알고 있어도 날 볼 수가 없어 / 답답해 제발 딱 한 번만 line (romanized): nan algo isseodo nal bol suga eopseo/ dapdaphae jebal ttak han beonman the yap: the desperation, the pleading, chefs kiss <3 lee know’s voice is so emotional and beautiful. the crack on the man syllable of beonman?? ugghhhhh <3 could you imagine him in a production of moulin rouge singing el tango de roxanne?? the emotion in this line makes me think of that song and now i need to see him sing it. i also think lee know is generally well utilized in this track, and this is one of a couple tracks where his vocals really stood out to me on first listen

changbin: 愛をくれたのに、なぜ (aiwokuretanoninaze) the line (japanese): 変わりゆく時 the line (romanized): kawariyuku toki the yap: LISTENNN LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING!! i know it's an ad lib, i get it!! but y'all simply don't understand how much i adore when changbin is actually treated like a vocalist (like giving him ad libs). i loveee this song and i love everything he does in it. i actually thought he had a larger singing portion in the last chorus because of how impactful this one damn adlib was for me. this is HIS song in many ways and he ate down. his emotion is so powerful! i love when we get singer!changbin pls give us more pls pls pls

hyunjin: mountains line (korean): 긋고 새로 쓰는 bucket list, no matter 다시금 / 의지 불태워, 투지 굳세어 / 내 바람이 이끄는 대로 I follow 저 깃발을 채고 눈 하나 깜빡 안 해, I'm keeping it real line (romanized): geutgo saero sseuneun bucket list, no matter, dasi geum / ulji bultaewo, tuji gutseeo / nae barami ikkeuneun daero i follow, jeo gitbareul chaego nun hana kkamppak an hae, i’m keeping it real the yap: i know it’s a lil long but this “line” specifically makes great use of hyunjin’s vocal tone and shows his versatility as a rapper. similar to what i say about i.n below, hyunjin’s voice matches well with the music, and adds perfect contrast to the chanting type vibes of the chorus. the delivery is perfect, he’s got the right energy and vibe and hit every point. this line really shows hyunjin’s skill as a rapper, and i often think of the kid who had to rap with a pen in his mouth to get his enunciation together during the survival show when i hear this verse. hyunjin has come a long way :) i also do love how hyunjin is often one of the mumble rappers of the group intentionally. it feels like reclaiming it in a way?

han: falling up line: yeah, yeah, yeah the yap: HEAR ME OUT HEAR ME OUT this part literally gives me chills!!!! i don’t even have a real explanation for this other than that these are 3 of the best yeahs i’ve ever heard. han’s voice is ridiculous and i love when he gets into the rock style of belting he has here. give me a rock cover of heart attack by demi lovato pls!! maybe with jooyeon from xdh?? 👀 lemme not get off track, i really adore this part of this song and i have gone back to listen to the lead up and this part in isolation more times than i can count.

felix: 0801 line (korean): 유난히 추웠던 겨울에 다시 / 봄이 오는 것처럼 line (romanized): yunanhi chuwotdeon gyeoure dasi / bomi oneun geotcheoreom the yap: i loveee the way he says geotcheoreom !! the duality of felix’s voice is crazy. it’s got good resonance and power, and it sounds comfortable. i would love to hear more vocals like this from him!! i know felix initially was a dancer, rapper, singer in that order, but i love when we get to hear him sing :) i also would loveeee if he went to voice lessons bc he’s got a big voice and a big range and i think he could really have some star power as a vocalist with some technique instruction. this song is proof that singer!felix is in there!

seungmin: run it line (korean): 시련 속에서도 계속 line (romanized): siryeon sogeseodo gyesok the yap: the fucking VIBRATO on gyesok is one of the most beautiful things to ever grace my ears. i loveee seungmin's casual vibrato in moments like this, it's one of the highlights of his voice for me. his technique is so strong and his voice is so clear, truly a joy to listen to. our boy is a crooner and i love when he shows it!! also so happy to see him in this video <3

exactly :) there is enough in our own lives to worry about, and skz really seem to know each other’s boundaries, so i think it’s ok to assume that if they’re uncomfy they’re talking to each other about it 💜

i know they love him and ik it’s teasing and not serious but i totally get what that anon is trying to convey…when they call him a walrus or a pig it makes me sad too because i know i wouldn’t have been happy about that…idk. this is just my thoughts though!! i don’t think too seriously about all of this because in my heart i know it’s teasing 💝

while i def am empathetic to it potentially hurting his feelings, i also am kinda like, they’re all adults, so if something like that is bothering them then they should speak up.

obviously when it’s the company making the comments it’s different, but between the members, i choose to believe that they can call each other in on that type of stuff if it’s bothering them.

believing otherwise feels too parasocial for me personally, so i assume that if changbin wasn’t cool with the fat jokes from the members, he’d tell them. maybe i’m wrong, but i think there’s just too much unknown for me to say otherwise, so this is my default.

i do still take issue with the platforming of fatphobic jokes, though, even if they’re consensual. feels gross regardless of intent

i LOVEEEE the comeback!! i’m so obsessed with the video, and i love how seungmin was still included and given good screen time. also chan was in his dancer bag in this one and he ateee! the song sounds to me like the midpoint between slash and parade which is super fun bc i love those songs

LETS FUCKING GOOOOO ugh they’re slaying and it was so good to see felix dancing!!!

They’re upset at JYPE (not SKZ themselves— they are very well aware this was not their doing) for the membership package benefit being priority ticketing, but then giving K-Stays priority ticketing before everyone else for the Korea concerts. As of now, K-Stays get the first go at tickets and then the rest of the membership havers get a “priority sale” a day after. The obvious issue is that scalpers will have already screwed the rest of the membership holding Stays. JYPE is not doing priority ticketing for local Stays for any other concert, so C-Stays are calling them on their discrimination of global Stays and are really pissed that they bought an expensive membership for priority ticketing, but are getting a worse deal than other Stays entirely based on nationality despite paying the same price. It seems like the majority of their comments are being removed (with bonkers comments like the George Floyd ones being left???), and the narrative that global Stays are seeing is “C-Stays are crashing out and sending hate to SKZ on Fans” when the majority of them are telling JYPE how discriminatory they’re being and not blowing up at SKZ at all. The choice of using Fans is strategic too. JYPE is removing their comments on all other platforms and Fans is closely monitored by JYPE staff. C-Stays are also aware that the narrative that Global Stays are seeing is very much manipulated and are saying “Global Stays think we’re being crazy, but we’re trying to stop them from being discriminated against too.”

That’s as much as I’ve seen on the matter from C-Stays, and with that, I’ll let everyone process. Hopefully this helps!

IMO, I think this is one of the few instances in this fandom where fans have a valid reason to be upset. When you enjoy a group enough to buy a membership, the benefit that you’re buying is priority ticketing so that you have a better chance to see the group without paying scalper prices. I’m super empathetic to their plight, especially since the membership price was astronomical this year, and the narrative pushed is that they’re being crazy.

this is part of the kpop world that i don’t know anything about so i wont give an opinion on whether or not their upset is valid. imma bow out of any discourse here lol as someone that doesn’t participate in any of the subscriptions and has no desire to, i dont think my opinion really matters here, and i dont think i know enough to form an educated opinion anyway

This is going to get me folded like a tortilla, but I am not a title track girly. I live in the b sides, SONG by, drama OSTs, covers (in Seungmin's music taste I trust— guy covered my favorite Yoasobi song then covered my favorite Baekhyun song, then covered my favorite Younha song, then covered one of my favorite Epik High songs, then covered my favorite- you get the point— I think Seungmin and I have identical playlists with some overlap with Minho and Jisung's too), and Skz-Record.

To date there is only one Skz title track that I love dearly and it's my queen Hollow. I love when they go more indie, alt, j-pop with their sound and Hollow scratched the itch in my brain perfectly! I hope we get it performed outside of Japan! :)

as for music taste i loveee how different every member’s is and it’s so fun that you can identify which members you share music taste with! i feel like im prob most similar to bang chan and hyunjin

I don’t like it when the other members tease Changbin about his weight (calling him walrus or elephant). I think Han does it a lot which has shifted my opinion of him to be less favorable. I know it’s probably a cultural thing, but I still don’t like it.

i don’t think you’re being too sensitive, it makes me bristle too when i hear it. i do think this is one of the things that’s just them being like siblings though. they’ve talked a lot about how changbin and han specifically are extremely platonic and like brothers. skz has also talked about han feeling like he’s made fun of too much, especially by older members, and i wonder if it’s him getting his lick back in a sibling way

most of the times i’ve seen a member of skz making a comment about another member’s weight, it’s usually in direct response to something that other member said making fun of them.

while i don’t fuck with fatphobia ever, i unfortunately do think this is some brotherly play type shit and isn’t meant in a serious way. every family makes jokes that cross the line, and that’s how i read this. the reason i think this is bc skz has made an active effort to emphasize health over thinness, and based on that image, i’m not sure skz would continue to make those kind of jokes if they thought it was harming their fans. obviously idk these people, but based on image alone, that’s how it seems to me

that being saidddd, i also think there’s the question of like, what impact does publicly platforming that kind of banter have? bc while the members may know it’s a joke, the plus sized fans hear the sentiment behind it, and it doesn’t always feel like a joke.

i’m not tryna dismiss your feelings and i hope that’s not how this comes across. i actually felt the exact same way when i heard it for the first time watching their content, and this and other things have changed my opinion of certain members too. as i got more familiar with the group though, to me, it just seemed like taking the piss. doesn’t make it right, but i can stomach it
