Google has gifted its users Android Pay – a wireless payment system through smartphones, which was announced in MWC 2015 (Mobile World Congress). The company specified that this payment system can overcome the loopholes of Google wallet. They actually intended to make the API layer for companies to make their payment systems work. Google declared, ‘Android Pay and Google wallet are two different entities with different types of services’.

Sundar Pichai, the senior vice president of Google said in a session at MWC 2015, “We are doing it in a way so that anybody else can build a payments service on top of Android. In places like China and Africa, we hope that people will use Android Pay to build innovative services.”

Android Pay will not be a separate app but it will be a platform using which Android developers can integrate mobile payment system into the apps that use API layer.

How will it work?

The working of Android Pay will be very simple and easy, allowing Android users to use this payment system for making payments through credit card’s information that is saved in the device. A biometric fingerprint scanner will scan the fingerprint i.e. the touch ID of a user willing to pay through Android Pay. Smartphone that are NFC enabled can easily use this new mobile payment system to make the payment for which your smartphone has to be in the range of 10 cm or less closer to the initiator.

This payment system will tokenize the card numbers, given the saved information of credit cards and it will generate one-time payment token for each transaction rather than just sharing the user’s credit card information. So along with the card details, token generated is also sent at the other end of the terminal to make the payment secure, authentic and reliable. This token generated gets expired in a fixed and finite time span after it is being used once.
