Wave of the Day. That was caught on the webcam that moves The actual best wave happened while the camera was pointed up the beach. Just OK conditions today, Friday and Saturday I looked at this webcam and hoped it would look better the next day, but then I ran out of holiday weekend tomorrows so out I went.

Unfortunate that there was a cruise ship in port on both of our days on Catalina, but it let me really appreciate how quiet and special it was when all the Cruisers went back to the ship in the late afternoon and left the town almost comparatively deserted in the evening and early morning. Not a very active trip, but the Ridgetop Hummer Tour was much more Extreme (and fun) than expected. Unfortunately The Island Company does not feature any pictures of the exterior of their “submarine” so we lined up at the wrong “submarine” and missed our “undersea” tour. Or now we have a reason to go back.

The goats had just started their work at Pismo Preserve so there was still much overgrowth left to navigate, some of which quite stabby.

Back in 2000 I was New York City and I dreamed of a Psion. I had started s website the previous year, journaling (just before “blogging” was coined), and I knew it would be a great vehicle to take all that big city stimulus and turn it into creative validation. Now I have an iPhone which would allow for subway scribing, but realize I can’t compete with the online voices I can admire, I can only try to give a little of that sweet human insight and vulnerability that I come to a site like tumblr for now.

This is not my photo of my first Cloth Napkin Hamburger. I was quite a few bites into mine when I decided it was something I’d like to write about, and fortunately Yelp provided an exact replica. I’m not a hamburger connoisseur, I actually take pride in my unpopular opinion that the smaller the hamburger patty, the better the hamburger sandwich. But when the most convenient restaurant to the hotel is a steakhouse and the hamburger is the only entree under the per diem budget, I guess that counts as a New Thing for the Day. I don’t consider myself a foodie but I do enjoy reading the restaurant reviews in my weekly Sunday Chronicle, and I was trying to remember how Michael Bauer described some of the fancier hamburgers I’d read about, but I didn’t seem to come across any exotic flavors, so I guess I just paid for the napkin.

Now this is how you observe Easter, sweating profusely just like Jesus on the cross.

I guess going out and doing stuff you can take pictures of is easier than writing.

Remember when I was taking these rephotography pictures? That was fun, I should do it again.
