My 61 reads of 2020! My goal was 25 books and I was going back into reading after taking a 4-year hiatus for school and work. As difficult as this year had been financially, emotionally, mentally, and career-wise, I was able to get back into my love and passion for reading and writing. My goal for next year is 50 books; here's to hoping I reach it and expand past it!
I have no clue how I got all these read in just one month đÂ
Code Lyoko: The New Girl (on Wattpad) https://my.w.tt/kt8nQxMpccb A year after the Code Lyoko gang has discovered the Supercomputer and the world of Lyoko, they're still battling it out against X.A.N.A., the evil computer virus. Tired of always failing to connect the pieces to everything and above all, surviving the latest X.A.N.A. attacks, the group is surprised to find an unlikely ally hiding away in a seemingly invisible Lyokian tower. This surprise goes by the name of Saphire Stonez and she claims to be Aelita's long-lost sister. She and Aelita were separated as kids when she was forced to live with their father, Franz Hopper, in a remote cabin in the forest, not too far from Kadic Academy and the factory that houses the Supercomputer. Or at least that's how her story goes. While the group is initially skeptical of her story, Saphire is able to prove she shares a connection with Aelita and Franz Hopper. She is also able to establish her intensive knowledge of Lyoko and the many other sectors that are a part of the virtual world. Her explanation for how she knows all this? She's been living on Lyoko for eight years. While keeping her Human status a secret, she's managed to move in with a Lyokian family who accepted her as their own and allowed her to receive an education, make friends, and create a name for herself. Once Saphire found out she had a living Human sister back on Earth, she dropped everything to go seek her out and reunite with her. Not having much choice but to wield this new piece of information, the gang makes the decision to keep Saphire around, hoping she'll be the key to stopping X.A.N.A. once and for all. They allow her to join Kadic Academy and restart her life while joining in on epic adventures and creating loving memories together. What they don't know or realize, however, is that there is more to Saphire's story than she's let on, and while she is doing everything in her power to keep her new friends and family safe, her biggest secret might just be their undoing.
This book took me a really long time to finish, not because of how difficult the subject was, not because of the alarmingly explicit descriptions, and not at all because I had work to do. I just really didn't want the story to end. Mindy McGinnis' poetic lines, the broken but whole characters, and the way all of society's issues with girls' "position" in life and boys' behaviors, highschool, rape, sexual assault, animal abuse, broken families, etc. were sprinkled in, I would read a chapter a day in the beginning, because I didn't want to rush through the chapters despite how short they were. Alex Craft blew me away. I have read of many strong girls (both in fiction and non-fiction, in YA fantasy, and in autobiographies and memoirs) but Alex's inner strength and resolve, despite how "wrong" her behavior may seem to others, it was nothing I had never known of before. Anyone who takes the time to read this book, no matter how long it takes them to get through it, will keep a piece of Alex with them (I know I will). Some of the lessons I learned about each of the characters include:Â
You can have a broken family and feel dead inside, but still be reawakened with the help of the right people.
You can be a preacher's kid or fit into a certain label/box, but still have the ability to be yourself and create your own story.
You can be the player who sleeps around and never cares for the hearts you break, but when you meet that special someone, you can change for the better and realize the error of your ways.
You can make a plethora of mistakes and judgments and be prejudiced, but if you take the time to learn something new, hear someone else's side of the story, and take into consideration other people's feelings, you can always change your life around.
and above all:Â
If you do good in the world, or even in just one person's world, you will always live on (in their lives, in their hearts, in their minds).
This is a story I will definitely revisit and one I will recommend to anyone and everyone I know.

Recently got back into reading after a 4-year hiatus due to college & work. Since March, I've read nearly 50 books, and this month alone, I finished 9 (some were books, some were audiobooks) but I'm glad to be a reader again!
what a beautiful setting!
I got this super wholesome message that honestly made my whole day & then they went & read 20 chapters back to back! #codelyoko #wattpad #fanfic #readers #wholesome
Letâs go over some things, shall we?
Jenny was originally designed to be a shape-shifting superhero; her âpigtailsâ are rocket thrusters, and her entire body can morph and shift to create weapons. Given her standard appearance is more to look like a humanoid girl, it seems reasonable that thatâs an appearance she chose, rather than her default, especially because we know she can modify her appearance however she likes, albeit restricted to her two base colors unless she gets a new paint-job.
Though her mother learns to be more supportive of her later on, Jenny was originally confined to house arrest save for doing her job, supposedly because the world around her wouldnât accept her.
She is canonically six-foot-six, which is rather tall, though it seems the average height of humanity has also gone up. So itâs not too uncommon for other men to be taller than her, but sheâs also taller than most people. She has so far only dated other men who are taller than her.
She gains two different disguises for looking human. The first one doesnât pass at all, while the second passing one convinces her to behave like a normal human girl, whispering into her ear to not only look, but behave like a ânormalâ girl, even if itâs not in her best interests.
Itâs evidently quite common for androids to be made from different base personality points- Kenny, a boy she dated for a little while, was a re-purposed dog robot, and still carried over some of his dog traits.
The two most popular girls in school specifically have it out for her, because sheâs a robot âpretendingâ to be a girl.
Jenny is allowed to play in her high schoolâs male football team.
Donât forget this scene:Â
Iâd suspected Jenny was trans coded for a long time, but this scene was what had me 100% convinced.Â
Prior to this episode Jenny had always treated Ms. Wakeman as her mother, always referring to her as âmom/motherâ; which caused Wakeman to be mocked by her peers. Ms. Wakeman was typically cold towards Jenny, always referring to her as XJ9 (essentially Jennyâs deadname) and usually treating her as nothing more than a defence droid. But in this scene Ms. Wakeman is actually seeing Jenny in danger and rushes to protect her, finally calling her âmy daughterâ for the first time. As soon as she does, the pure joy and amazement in Jennyâs voice just makes my heart swell.Â
This show is so incredible and SO ahead of itâs time.Â
Worth noting that the creator of the show acknowledged this, basically saying âWe didnât intend for Jenny to be trans coded, but weâre ecstatic that trans people are finding comfort in her. Just because we didnât intend the subtext doesnât mean itâs not there.â Very cool and way the hell better than Hartman handles shit like this.
