“I can’t believe them. Who do they think they are?!”

“Just let me fix that for you. Here just hold still.”

“This could do with a good brushing.”

“It’s fine, you don’t need to fidget with it.”

“Let me fix that for you.”

“I’ve got it. There, all better.”

“You’ve got hair in your face.”

“I don’t like how many people keep giving you that look.”

“Someone seems a little jealous?”

“I saw your shirt had a few holes in it so… here you go.”

“This needs some attention. No, I’ve got it. Really I do.”

“The audacity. The nerve. The absolute lack of respect!”

“We should talk about what happened.”

“Understand one thing: I do not like them.”

“For someone who’s over it, you certainly haven’t let go of it.”

“I think that someone has something on their mind, hmmm?”

“I haven’t seen you in how long? Shush let me take care of it.”

“You didn’t have to go ahead and make food.”

“That was the last time you ate a home cooked meal? Move over.”

“Really, I’m fine, this isn’t a fever. I’m just a little dizzy.”

“Stop, I’m not ill. Stop now, enough. Uhhhg… you aren’t going to stop are you?”

“Take this. It will do you some good.”

“This person definitely is not in your line of sights for any reason, huh?”

“Hmm… sounds like something else to me. Just saying.”

Looking over the menu she glanced over at him, her eyebrow raising. “You mean like it’s actually red? Okay this I totally gotta see sometime.” She chuckled softly before ordering a simple hot chocolate with whipped cream. “That’s what we thought too. Until the symbols started popping up, crazy weather patterns, a lot of small demons coming out of the cracks.“ she nodded her head towards a bench, what seemed like a simple couple was actually a pair of demons, their yellow tinted eyes giving them away. “Something is happening, we just don’t know what… so they sent me to check it out, see if Buffy is needed.”

“It is,” He confirmed at her question about his skin actually being red. “But not simply a red tinge. My devil face is more asking to the sort of shift of a vampire, but a bit more extreme.”

He was conversational about it. It was sort of nice not having to hide what or who he was. “We’ve only just met. I don’t want to frighten you off just yet.”

Dawn just stared at him shocked. “ I just.. I have never heard of someone having not heard of The Slayer. Like the Vampire Slayer? She saved the world like a billion times?” She laughed clearly entertained by this. “ Well The Key was kinda cool. It’s this thousand year old energy that can open hell dimensions and portals.”

Sam blinked owlishly. He responded: “Wait! Did another Appocalypse happen, which I wasn’t made aware off?” The only appocalypse, Sam could remember, was his and his brother’s confrontation and conflict with Lucifer himself. Hearing what the Key was, Sam frowned in worry. If that thing got into the wrong hands, it could cause extreme damage.

Sam asked: “So, is that Key thing like a devil’s gate? Or more like the Colt?” He remembered how the Colt had been used to open the Wyoming devil’s gate. It may have only been one entrance, but thousands of demons had taken their chance and had swarmed out. Earth had positively been flooded with them.

She frowned slightly causing her nose to crinkle as she thought for a moment. “Well she stopped the end of the world a few times, but there was two times where we actually stopped the end of the world.. so yeah?” Grabbing her glass of water she took a small sip, watching him start to wiggle as he asked about the key.

“You're looking at it. Well her.. I really don't like being called an It. But I'm good! Friendly and all!” She assured him not needing to start some sort of fighting in the middle of the small roadside diner. “I'm not sure what those are.. well I've heard of the devils gate. I don't think I'm like that. I'm still kinda figuring out what all I can do... ya know? But I know for sure I open portals. I've done it a time or two.” Her eyes flicked down to the table, almost ashamed of what she'd done in her past.

SHIFTING  WHERE  HE  SAT  ,  OZ  LET  HIMSELF  CROSS  HIS  LEGS  ,  MOVING  DAWN’S  HAND  ACROSS  HIS  KNEE  AS  HE  THEN  PUSHED  THE  NAILBRUSH  BACK  IN  THE  BOTTLE  .  letting  the  nail  polish  saturate  the  brush  before  pulling  it  back  out  &&  gently  painting  over  the  layer  that  he  had  already  coated  .  dawn  was  filling  the  silence  ,  &&  he  was  alright  with  that  .  he  preferred  it  if  he  was  honest  .  this  was  more  a  meditative  practice  than  anything  else  .   he  caught  glance  of  her  expression  but  said  nothing  a  tiny  hint  of  a  smile  curling  at  the  corner  of  his  lips  as  he  then  DIPPED  his  head  .

She hadn't meant to ramble on so long, a pink dust of blush covering her cheeks as she watched him. " So what's going on with you? You let me talk your ear off, now its your turn."

“So, uh, how’d that happen anyway?“

“Mmm! Delightfully tangy, yet robust.“

“But, he knew the risks, as do we all.“

“Yeah. Too bad my nose works just fine.”

“A ludicrous parcel of driveling galoots…”

“Don’t you remember? All those stories?“

“Just a lifelong obsession… I’ll get over it.”

“Hit your head there pretty hard, didn’t ya?“

“I don’t know what to do, I get so flustered.“

“You give up a few things, chasing a dream.“

“We were better off on the exploding planet!”

“Why? You got something to hide, bright-eyes?“

“Oh, shut up. You know I don’t mean a word of it.”

“Oh, don’t be daft. You’ve been very helpful. Truly.“

“Hey, mister? Hey, mister, you’re okay in there, right?“

“I mean, I am a doctor, but I’m not that kind of doctor.“

“I’m fluent in ‘flatula’. Took two years of it in high school.”

“I’m just sorry I couldn’t have been… more helpful to you.“

“I just don’t want to see you throw away your entire future!“

“I gotta find a place to hide, and there’s pirates chasing me.”

“Aw, he took a shine to me. We’ve been together ever since.“

“I really, really, really, really want to go. And it’s the right thing.“

“No. He was more the taking-off-and-never-coming-back sort.“

“Oh, pirates! Don’t get me started on pirates! I don’t like them.“

“With the greatest possible respect… zip your howling screamer.”

“All that talk of greatness? Light coming off my sails? What a joke.“

“Ah, I’ve got some plans… to make people see me a little different.“

“Yes, yes. No, I mean, I understand, but, um, co-couldn’t we just—?“

“You can keep that kind of flim-flammery for your spaceport floozies.”

“Look, if you’re gonna come along, you’re gonna have to stop talking.“

“I don’t know… they weren’t exactly singing my praises when I left home.”

“Oh, I see. Well, I was never much good at games… Always hated to lose.“

“You won’t so much as eat, sleep, or scratch your BUM without my say-so!“

“Without the map we’re dead. If we try to leave we’re dead. If we stay here…“

“You’re as trim and as bonnie as a sloop with new sails and a fresh coat of paint!“

“Are you saying this because it’s the right thing… or because you really wanna go?“

“It’s totally preposterous, traversing the entire galaxy alone… that’s why I’m going with you.”

“Like it or not, I’ll be pounding a few skills into that thick head of yours to keep you out of trouble.”

“They’re… How did I describe them? I said something rather good this morning before coffee.”

“You got the makings of greatness in you, but you got to take the helm and chart your own course!”

“Look at you! Glowing like a solar fire. You’re something special. You’re gonna rattle the stars, you are!”

“He’s a-comin’. Can ya hear ‘im? Those gears and gyros, clickin’ and whirrin’ like the devil, himself!”

“Didn’t your pop ever teach you to pick your fights a bit more carefully? Your father not the teachin’ sort?”

“I know that I keep messing everything up. And I know…that I let you down. But this is my chance to make it up to you.“

“I should never have listened to that pushy two-headed saleswoman… this one said it fit, that one said it was my color…”

“Is it that your body is too massive for your teeny-tiny head, or is it that your head is too teeny-tiny for your big fat body?“

“Look, don’t you get it?! I screwed up! I mean, for two seconds, I thought that maybe I could do something right, but — !”

“Whatever you heard back there, at least the part concerning you, I didn’t mean a word of it. If that bloodthirsty lot thought I had gone soft, they’d have gutted us both.“

“This should be a wonderful opportunity for the two of us to get to know one and other. You know what they say. ‘Familiarity breeds…’, um, well, ‘contempt’. But, in our case…”

“I mean, I am a doctor, but I’m not that kind of doctor. I have a doctorate, it’s not the same thing. You can’t help people with a doctorate. You just sit there and you’re useless!“
