creator shoutouts: week 3 (november 8 - 14, 2020)
here are a few creations that caught my eye this week! for more information on this series, click here. in no particular order:
@augustsjanes‘ the song of achilles alternate cover
kalli never fails to impress me with her creativity and her edits, but this one really made me stop and stare for a moment. i always love alternate covers, and i loved the drawings that kalli used in here. the colors, the florals, the hands… chef’s kiss.
@daywing‘s percy jackson edit
can we just take a moment to appreciate grace’s talent? i really had to pick between so many edits of hers this week but ultimately went with this percy jackson edit. it looks so clean and professional. i love the outlines and the splotches of grey and i’m in awe of how nicely the circle text looks!
@venka’s warcross edit
one day i will read warcross, but until then, i’ll just sit here and stare at this absolutely stunning, vibrant edit of aashna’s. it just looks so much like a video game, and the textures, coloring and text just go together so nicely.
@rhsand‘s daisy jones and the six alternate cover
mansi’s djats alternate cover is simply so stunning. the bright orange and the floral texture gives off the perfect daisy jones vibe, and this cover is something i can so easily picture seeing at a bookstore! i loved how mansi arranged “daisy jones & the six” as well!
@xsavages‘s vicious edit
i still haven’t read vicious, but i am absolutely obsessed with this edit! the cut out texts, the textures, the red, the eyes – it all comes together so nicely and perfectly fits the vibes (or at least, what i know of vicious)!
@aropippin‘s eurydice drawing
i am perpetually in awe of andrew’s talent. this drawing is gorgeous, and i love the colors that he used! there’s so much detail in this - the ring, the tears on the coat, the feather in her hair - it’s just mesmerizing.
@pujishrine‘s percy jackson edit
this edit looks like it’s something out of a magazine. it’s so clean and so pretty. the black & white, the overlapping ‘SEA’, the lines – it’s literally just stunning.
@rxvns‘ allison reynolds edit
the whites and the soft pinks of this edit are so pretty and match allison so nicely. i could so easily see this edit being in a sports magazine, focusing on allison reynolds!
@peruvianparrish‘s jordan hennessy edit
this edit gives off this 3D effect. i loved the colors joss used in this, the sliding text, the shadows and the block lines. it’s so creative!
@warstorm‘s crazy rich asians edit
i don’t know how i missed this edit the first time around, but it’s beautiful! i loved the snowfall gif overlay, the faceclaims, the descriptions and the fonts used. it’s just a perfect edit, and captures crazy rich asians and it’s vibrant cast of characters so nicely.

@fandomaestheticnet pride event: the song of achilles
in the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless dusk. their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.

I will never leave him. It will be this, always, for as long as he will let me. If I had had words to speak such a thing, I would have. But there were none that seemed big enough for it, to hold that swelling truth. As if he had heard me, he reached for my hand. I did not need to look; his fingers were etched into my memory, slender and petal-veined, strong and quick and never wrong. “Patroclus,” he said. He was always better with words than I.

types of academia pt. 1
dark: black coffees and teas, silver signet rings, worn paperbacks, ink smudged hands, eyes in starlight, frayed sweaters, cashmere, wine colored lips, dark lashes, the smell of liquor and cigars, broken glass, humming softly down corridors, stacks of books all around your room, oak and vanilla, the perfect mix of sugar and poison, speaking in ancient languages, rain fogging your glasses, old clocks ticking, vinyl static, searching for meaning, lines of poetry written down your arms, obscured by an air of ambiguity, morally grey... murder?
cryptid: journal full of research and hand drawn sketches of cryptids, shelves full of sci-fi novels, binoculars and a chunky camera from the thrift shop shoved in your backpack, maps with red string and mysterious newspaper clippings pinned on the wall, looking for clues, hundreds of travel plans but none follow a coherent itinerary, you swear that was a ufo in the sky last night, dreaming to make a discovery bigger than life
goth: dark lipstick, abandoned buildings, velvet dresses, lace trimming, feathers around your feet, piano notes stretching through empty halls, the sand of an hourglass falling quicker, fishnet socks, ornate mirrors and candelabras, kerosene lamps, first edition copies of books, smudged eyeliner, a silhouette behind a moonlit window, stoppered bottles of mysterious liquids, melancholy and roses, living in legend
witchy: old grimoires gathering dust, clippings of your favorite spells pinned up, diagrams of plants inked in black in your book of shadows, teacups with already read tea leaves, tracing the lines on your friend/lover’s palm and secretly interpreting the meanings, incantations of the stars and planets, whispering to the plants on your windowsill before bed, piercings and stacked silver rings that catch the moonlight just right, lipstick the color of coagulated blood, smudged sigils up and down your arms under long sleeves
science: leather bound journals full of graph paper and notes, beakers and tubes of chemicals, researching the history of alchemy, the familiarity of the lab coat, the warmth of the soft yellow light in your room after the harsh fluorescents of the laboratory, your favorite research articles pinned to your wall, a folded copy of the periodic table in the pocket of your favorite jacket, debating over different scientific theories with your friends instead of studying, writing your poetry in chemical formulas and comprehending through atomic structure

@novelsnet event 01: get to know the members — if we were villains
enter the players. there were seven of us then, seven bright young things with wide precious futures ahead of us, though we saw no farther than the books in front of our faces. we were always surrounded by books and words and poetry, all the fierce passions of the world bound in leather and vellum.

“ that's fucking tragic “
This is what was going on
This is what was going on in Poland this night. This is what is going to repeat tomorrow. Polish people got out into the streets to protest against the ban on abortion. Many has been hurt e.g. with pepper spray and many arrested.
A shitload of police protected the house of our DICTATOR Jarosław Kaczyński who single-handedly for years has been controling 235 memebers of the parliament from his ruling party PIS. Noone could get near the house for hundreds of meters.
Poland is being destroyed but these protesting people give us hope. But what IS hope when a bunch of old unhappy people in power hate you, hate women, hate liberals, hate LGBT people, hate intelligent people? When they want to create a country full of their uneducated supporters that won't ever protest? Some people say the elections in three years won't be held as PIS won't allow it. Or that the results will not be the real results. I for sure would not be surprised. None of my friends plan to be in Poland in three years.
This is the time where feminists of all world should look at Poland and help us. Because women just lost their (facade of) dignity here and we will lose remnants of it. And for what? To make people forget for a couple of days that the government screwed up and that Poland is not handling well with the virus at all.
