Starless is an original sci-fi project featuring aliens, their cultures, inter-species politics, and life between the stars.

Some cultures of nero do dye dances, where they will grip handfuls of colorful clay or have satchels of liquid color that they burst. They will swim in spirals, or zigzags, or whatever their heart desires!

Here's how the most common nero (the zikzik, who travel along the major north-south swimways) count! This is meant to be used for quick and quiet communication during hunting.

A zero is a closed fist, and addition/subtraction can be done by rapidly closing than flashing different numbers. What hand they use denotes whether or not they are adding or subtracting.
