Lorna struggled to unlock the door to the motel room she had rented. It wasn’t glamorous or practical, seeing as it was a few miles outside of New York City, but she could not stay with her sister because her ex fiancée lived there now. She dropped the baby off at her father’s after some mild begging on his side and now she was ready to take a shower and get some very well deserved rest.  She groaned loudly in annoyance from the stubborn lock, which she assumed was broken, so she gave in and used her powers to crack it open. She tried not to use them for such simple things. Her dad seemed too dependent on his abilities and she would be damned if she would allow herself to obnoxiously float out of conversations. There was something wrong with her room, something other than the lock. Lorna sensed it the moment she set foot into the small but tidy place. There was no time to read the room, a second later her back was against the wall and someone had their hands around her throat. She did not recognize them and given her and her family’s history, it could be anybody and their motive could be anything. She gasped for air and struggled to get out of their grip but just like the lock, she wouldn’t be able to get out of this one without her powers. She hadn’t fought in a long time, she was a mother and not a warrior, not anymore. However, before she could flicker her wrist and get any piece of metal to hit the man on his head, he was already collapsed on the floor. It didn’t take long to see the reason why, Remy was in front of her now. “What are you doing here?” she asked, panting “And thank you, I guess. Is he dead? I used my real name to get this room and I don’t wanna go to jail.” she added. 

“Yeah but ye always use the same fake name.” he chuckled, their kid strapped to his chest. “Its easy ta track ye hen ye never change things up.” he said reaching out and running his hand tenderly over her neck where the man had grabbed her. “Ye alright?” he asked, concern in his voice. “And nah, I didn’ kill ‘em, he’s jus’ knocked out fer the time bein’.”

“We’d have to stop, babe. We could adopt some of them ourselves but we wouldn’t be able to take in new kids. And I’m not risking turning this into a witch hunt, I don’t want to be on the run again. I’m confident Jennifer Walters is gonna shut those bastards down and save the day. “ She wrapped an arm around her wife and pressed a kiss against the top of her head. “How were things while I was out? Did any of the kids give you any trouble?” 

“Then what would happen to new ones? We just leave them on the streets to die? I don’t want to be on the run either especially now that we’ve got the girls but...I just can’t turn my back on all those kids Illy.” she said, tears forming in her eyes as she leaned against the other girl. “All the kids were great! Matthew and Reynaldo were fighting again but otherwise everything went well!” 

Lorna dropped her purse on the floor and rushed to meet her baby, shaking with worry. “Oh my God, what have you guys done?” She took the baby in her arms and bounced to keep him calm even though she was the only one freaking out. She put him down in his crib after a few seconds and redirected her death glare at the young girl “You tell me exactly what happened here. And don’t lie because I can see right through you, young lady.“ 

“We didn’t do anything, I told you it was that idiot husband of yours.” she replied coolly, teleporting next to the two of them, her arms crossed “Besides its not even that bad, its just a normal bruise, not like...a bad one. Chill out.”

Tommy heard Lilith before Wanda did, and he poked his head out into the hallway.  “Let me guess!  You divorced Elia, and you’ve got a hot, young girlfriend now.”  He stopped short, looking at the kid with a curious expression.  “Uh — you’ve got a child with you, did you know?  You know how mom is with kids, should we hide it?”

“You know that’s not gonna happen.” she replied with a laugh. “I know Tommy and no we shouldn’t!” she said, kneeling down beside of the girl. “This is Petra, your niece.” The small girl hid behind Lilith, peering over her shoulder. “She’s a little shy. Say hi to Uncle Tommy, Petra.” she told the girl. The girl continued to stare at him, unspeaking and slowly raised her hand, giving him a small wave. “The adoption finally cleared this morning.”

“They’re never going to stop Illy, no matter what we do they’ll hate us. I’ll tell you this though, even if they do shut us down, I’m not stopping. These kids need us and if the government tells us we can’t help then fuck ‘em.” she said resting her head on the other girls shoulder with a sigh. “I’m tired of it too люблю.”
