The Barbie look
Here are five of your favorite friends:
Barbie, Midge, Skipper, Allan, and Ken.
And if you think they’re the same they’ve always been,
you’d better take another look—better check em again!
Now you can see they’ve all acquired
a brand-new look that Barbie inspired.
Designers call this the Barbie Look,
this great new fashion look.
And these bendable legs really look so natural, and the way that they move is so lifelike that you’ll really be amazed at all the things they can do, and the way that you pose them is up to you.
You can sit them on a sofa,
or the edge of a bed,
or you can make them sit right on the floor instead.
They can cross their legs and relax awhile,
or sit down for dinner in formal style.
You can pose them together in dozens of ways.
You can even make them dance the latest craze!
You can put them in a really swinging pose,
and they look so graceful in all their clothes.
And that’s just a part of the fashion look,
the great new Barbie Look!
So get Barbie,
Midge,
Skipper,
Allan,
and Ken,
all together with the furniture to sit them in.
And you’ll find them all where the best toys sell.
You can tell they’re Mattel—they’re swell!

I made a little chartreuse book for the barbie outfit
Junior Designer - 1965
The book is one of the barbie accessories from that era that is notoriously hard to find, so I made one using printed paper and cardboard.
I left a white sliver in the back, and that was intentional. Because the paper on the original Mattel books didn’t go all the way around .
The two red books are Mattel originals

Barbie Go-Together Furniture
The Barbie “Go-Together” furniture line was produced by Mattel in the mid-1960s, around 1963–1965, as part of an affordable, modular system that allowed children to quickly create complete room scenes.
Two main color variations of the living room set are known today: the white version which is the most commonly documented, and a rarer teal / blue version, often associated by collectors with higher-end presentation and possible retailer variations.
The line was widely distributed, including through major retailers such as Sears, and at least one documented variation has been described as Sears-linked, although full exclusivity has not been definitively proven.
While originally mass-produced, these sets are now scarce in complete condition due to their fragile materials, removable fabric elements, and the disposable nature of their packaging.
As a result, surviving examples—especially those retaining original cushions and accessories—are considered highly collectible representations of mid-century Barbie domestic play design.
—————————————-//—————————————
The Barbie Go-Together furniture line was designed as a modular and highly versatile play system rather than simple static furniture.
A key feature of the living room set is the convertible sofa-bed, which rely on mechanical hinges ans uses removable “sew-free” cushions.
By repositioning these lightweight folded cushions, the sofa can be transformed into a flat sleeping surface, making the cushions themselves the core of the mechanism.
This design reflects a broader concept within the Go-Together line: furniture and rooms were meant to be reconfigurable and multi-functional.
Pieces could be rearranged, combined with other sets, and adapted to different play scenarios, mirroring mid-century modern ideas of flexible living spaces. The result was an innovative system where a single set could represent multiple environments, enhancing both play value and creative storytelling.

I forgot to mention it but the 1996 Valentine Romance Barbie I got recently came with a bunch of little punch out cardboard accessories, and one of them is a Framed Photo of Ken that I can't decide whether he looks more like a friendly butch girl or Fred Jones from Scooby Doo after a lot of botox injections
The Barbie Go-Together set all put together
The only thing - my foam wasn’t thick enough.
I had no reference to know how thick the foam really was.
This is 6mm EVA cosplay foam in white, I think in the future I’ll purchase 10mm foam and it should do the trick.
I still have a lot of the fabric left, I should be able to make some more foam pieces
