finally, my blog gets to be yellow (header by @ferretzoid on twitter! and over here too apparently lmao)
asexual, demiromantic (sometimes self described as bi, don't worry about it) // they/them // 23 y.o. // disabled and neurodivergent. will sometimes reblog posts about it in bulk. Possibly plural but I can't afford to focus on that rn
the name is actually short for Katrin but that's not my legal name either. I'm czech btw
I like men and I like women and I like them together and if that's a problem to you or you think harassing bi people for shipping "hetslop" is a moral obligation kindly get out of here thank you
(and no I don't just ship m/f ships. But if you're curious about them you'll need to go on a scavenger hunt about it. I used to have a list but I got tired of updating it)
current interests: genshin impact, cyberpunk 2077, deltarune, kingdom hearts, ffxiv, hollow knight/silksong, honkai star rail
GI, HSR server: EU / FFXIV server: EU light - alpha
I draw and write sometimes!!! Check out my toyhouse! (it doesn't have all my ocs yet and most likely never will, but the important guys are there - well... some of them, I'll add more. Very WIP!)
also yeah uhh the plurality thing!!! Yeah I'm barely comfortable sharing details with my best friends but this isn't a system blog, it's mostly for me and Not Me. The others have some sideblogs though only one is currently semi-active. I won't link them because idk that feels a little rude

I wish general society acknowledged that "boy moms" are often incredibly abusive. They are controlling and manipulative and they often isolate their sons (and daughters, boy moms are deeply misogynistic) from other family members, friends, and especially romantic partners. There is a reason why so many men who grew up with "boy moms" struggle to stand up to their mothers even as adults with partners and children of their own; it's because years and decades of emotional abuse and manipulation make it extremely difficult to both stand up to your abuser AND to even recognize it as abuse in the first place, especially when your abuser has spent your entire life telling you that they're the only person on your side and everyone is out to get her.
This isn't a justification for the way that these men treat their own partners and children and put them below their moms, but I really think we need to talk about this like the abuse it is and recognize that it's extremely difficult to move past abuse and trauma when you don't even have those words to explain your experiences.
(Do NOT tag this as narcissistic abuse; linking abuse with disorders instead of behaviors is ableist and makes it incredibly difficult for people to get mental health care and talk about their experiences with their illnesses. Most abusers don't have NPD and most people with NPD are totally fine and wonderful friends, partners, and parents.)
"Why do so many men put up with their moms manipulating them/pushing aside their partners/taking over their weddings/etc?"
The same reason why so many adults brush off their dad beating them as kids. The same reason why so many women don't bat an eye at how controlling their boyfriends and husbands are. Because that abuse is normal to them and it is painful and difficult to recognize how awful it really is, especially when the abuse is coming from someone that you love and don't want to hurt.
kinda tired of non binary being tied to skinny androgyny that's mostly white. I say that's as a non binary transmasc/boy thing who's fat and black.
being non binary can look like anything and anyone but especially individuals who have different body types outside of thin. they can have body/facial hair too. show up for all enbies.

there is no downside to voting for Count Binface. its not taking away from other candidates bcos they aren't any and the more votes he gets the stupider Farage looks.
Nigel Farage is the leader of Reform UK, a far right party who are currently in the process of a serious bid to become the UK government. they are just straight up evil.
Count Binface is an intergalactic space warrior with a bin on his head. he likes to run as a novelty candidate in general and mayoral elections. a big thing he likes to do is run as a candidate against the incumbent prime minister:
(Also pictured: Boris Johnson, Elmo)
Anyway, in brief:
Nigel Farage is currently in the midst of a big scandal about his finances
He has decided to deal with this by 1) making a show of nobly resigning from parliament and then 2) immediately running in the resulting by-election
He has stated that he is letting 'the people' judge his actions and implied that if he wins that will prove that he has been exonerated in the court of public opinion
His goal was presumably to get a big resounding win over the other parties, proving that The People still love him.
the other parties have thus far decided that this is a 'vanity election' and, well, there is one very easy way to ensure that he will not beat any of them, and that is simply not to play.
and as a result the only person who has so far confirmed they are running against him is Count Binface. no matter the outcome this makes Nigel Farage look like, u know, a fucking clown.
I've seen some people saying he would have to give up his title but it would seem that is no longer the case as of 1999; so, no, he can keep his ceremonial bin if he wishes.
Important to note also that Count Binface is the alter ego of comedian & political satirist Jon Harvey who seems to be an intelligent individual with reasonable politics. As I said no real downside.
When you try to talk about enshittification, it sounds like conspiracy theories. (I'm not crazy)
Amazon made their service worse, to force people to pay for Prime.
Nowadays, if you order from Amazon, there is a week long delay before your package is shipped. (on purpose)
I remember when orders would ship out the same day. (I remember - it was real)
YouTube didn't used to have ads. Now, ads play in the middle of videos. (it's worse than TV ever was)
The best can opener I have owned is over 40 years old. Modern ones just don't hold up as well. (The ones I bought new broke ages ago)
The bread machine my mom got for her wedding lasted 30 years. It's been replaced twice in the last 5 years. (How can you fuck this up?)
The cardboard tubes in the middle of toilet paper rolls have gotten larger. (This too?) Companies increasing the price of the product while selling you less. (REALLY?)
It sounds crazy. (it's the truth) When you talk about it, YOU sound crazy. (it's true)
Even when people believe you (do they really), all they can say is "it sucks". (it's too big) Because the problem is so big, so pervasive, what can we even DO about it???
To get the necessary laws written and passed, we need politicians, to get the politicians elected we need information campaigns, to fund campaigns we need money, and all the money is being hoarded by the people profiting from enshittification. (it sounds so fake)
So I talk about enshittification (it sounds crazy), so people don't forget that things have been made worse on purpose (it's true), even though I sound crazy. (maybe I am)
It's called planned obsolescence and it was invented when lightbulbs could still run for 1000 years. Enshittification is the web-specific (and more specifically social media) version of that.
Eh, they're related concepts, but a lot of people clearly haven't read the original article that defined it, and it shows.
Enshittification isn't planned obsolescence, which is just making things shitter by putting a time limit on how long they function. It's a feature that serves the seller and the stock holders, not the customer. Enshittification is a process, not a feature.
The beginning part of enshittification is deliberately making a better product than the nearest competitors, and giving it to people for free.
An essential part of enshittification is not merely drawing you in with something good, but making you depend on it as a key underpinning of your life. The only way you communicate with many of your friends and family (Facebook). The only way to order most items you need, when you need them (Amazon). The only way to process online payments (PayPal). The only way to get up-to-the-minute news and send out emergency messages (Twitter).
The first version of the platform (and it is specifically a platform thing - a platform being something you use to accomplish your other projects) has to be so good that virtually no one goes anywhere else anymore.
That step is like the old Starbucks thing of opening a million locations, offering a quality product, undercutting the local competition until they go out of business and you can't go anywhere else, at which point the prices rise and the quality goes down. The standard monopoly playbook.
But enshittification is more insidious than that. It's about creating a (virtual) place that you need to use not simply to get one product, but to accomplish the important things in your life.
People don't stay on Facebook because it's the only way to socially interact online - it's not! People are trapped using Facebook even though they hate it because their elderly parents and high school friends use it and won't use anything else.
People don't leave Amazon because when you rely on deliveries (eg you are disabled, you live somewhere rural, you need a package your next day or your boss will kill you), with a Prime account, it's the only way to accomplish what you need. AND it's the only way to watch a lot of your favourite TV shows, or access Kindle Unlimited books etc. When I choose between, say, Disney+ and Prime, I reflect that both companies suck, but Prime gets me free and fast deliveries that include everything from groceries to medicines to compost. I am disabled. When I can I order from somewhere else. But relatively frequently I can't. So right now I have Prime and not Disney+.
Enshittification isn't just about eliminating the competition, it's about *trapping* you into using something that gets worse and worse while being the only way for you to get things that are genuinely important. They make you live your life through them by taking indirect ownership of intangible things, like vital pathways to maintain your friendships, and then once they have you, they count on the combination of inertia and the value you place on those intangible things to keep you there no matter how bad it gets.
So I, who have never liked Facebook, even right at the start when I had to sign up to accept a party invitation, am still there, despite everything, because a whole bunch of my friends, my publishing network contacts, and my family, will not go anywhere else. They just won't leave. So leaving Facebook, for me, means severing contact with hundreds of people, some of whom are extremely important to me.
That's enshittification. It's the process by which they make sure you don't leave when it gets shit.
And yeah, the only way to tackle this is to regulate the fucking tech companies. Tell your MP.

i DO believe that a good writer can make mischaracterization work. oh there's a character who doesn't normally cry? figure it out!! disect the character. make the situation cryable for them. make that character cry ugly tears even if it goes against their very nature. YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!!
A great piece of advice I've seen is "Don't fixate about what the character would never do. Think about the circumstances that would drive them to do this, even if they wouldn't normally."
Youtubers who just cover horror content are a godsend because horror is incredibly fascinating for me to analyze but also I’m a baby who hates getting scared
I've gotta help out here, since Wendigoon sucks and you deserve better
Night Mind is good at covering various ARGs and Youtube horror series. Been a fan of Nick Nocturne for a long time now, and definitely recommend his stuff
Lately I've been checking out Nightmare Movies, who tends to cover obscure horror/exploitation movies including a lot of foreign stuff. I've got a couple minor gripes with his presentation (I may post a clip thats accidentally really funny later), but definitely good for branching out and finding something new and creepy
One channel I can't recommend enough is Dead Meat. They have a series called "Kill Count" where they go over every death in a horror movie, and while doing so, go in-depth as to how the effects were done. It's a fantastic channel with a high production value and a lot of very clear adoration for the genre. With over 500 Kill Count episodes, I can't recommend it enough for any horror fan.
My post about transfems having periods is getting a bit of traction again, but mostly for the wrong reasons since TERFs have gotten their hands on it, so another friendly reminder that trans women/fems or anyone on estrogenizing HRT tend to experience period or period-like symptoms due to their hormonal cycle and referring to it as their period is not only a perfectly accurate description but also none of your godamn business. Menstruation is only one part of a period, not the whole thing, and not every period comes with menstruation in the first place, even if you’re a cis woman.
Trans women can have periods, and instead of interrogating them on why you think that’s not possible, instead ask them questions such as “how can I help?” or “what do you need?” or “do require chocolate, painkillers and/or a very comfortable blanket and a movie?”
Let this also serve as a reminder for trans women to keep an eye on their mood before periods! Sincerely, a genderqueer currently-man who just got diagnosed with PMDD and is now taking some good medication for it. If you have a severe mood dip before your period, look into it!!!
guys, in regards to reading comprehension, if it's something you struggle with — read the whole thing. If it's something you don't struggle with, yes you do — read the whole thing.
don't respond or comment or whatever before you have read the whole thing.
The number of times I've gotten responses from people who clearly didn't read beyond the first few sentences of what I wrote is genuinely staggering. Think about it: if you don't have time to read someone else's thoughts, why should anyone take time to read yours? Communication is a two-way street.
Take your time reading. It's okay if you have to take time. You don't need to be 100% ready with a response right away, ever, in real life convos or online. You are allowed to take the time you need to absorb information and develop a response. Anyone who says otherwise is an asshole.
If you have a physical copy of something, highlighting or underlining is extremely helpful. There's even studies that show that you take in more information if you're holding a pen in your hand, as if to take notes. Also, TAKE NOTES! It's fun and extremely helpful.
If you don't have a physical copy, try highlighting with your mouse or your keyboard as you read. It makes you slow down and absorb what you're reading. Highlight a sentence at a time, and move forward sentence to sentence. There are even programs that allow you to do this with any running text. It's usually called focus mode.
TL;DR read the whole text before you respond to something, for the love of spiders georg

In response to a popular comic that's been floating around.
Headcanons are not activism. Ships are not activism. Fandom engagement at large is not activism. Punching down on someone for relating to a character in their own way, especially by claiming the way they are relating to the character is inherently not progressive, is reductive and damaging. Believing those who disagree with you are bigots and what they bring to the conversation is wrong or irrelevant is reductive and damaging. Telling any group that their headcanons 'overpower' fandom and are 'an epidemic' is reductive and damaging.
You are ostensibly telling someone they're playing with their dolls wrong. We are well past the age to be fighting over who gets the swings at the playground or whether you should go through the monkey bars forwards or backwards. Turning exceedingly minor fandom disagreements into a moral crusade, using the opportunity to feed into existing discourse about vulnerable groups, and refusing to listen to the voices of the group you are harming by mislabeling them all under a pejorative reactionary term to de-legitimize them makes you a bad person. Be better.
peace and love on planet earth or whatever
