Trouble comes in Twos

❝ Honey, I’ve told you before, right? Me and Jayden we get into trouble more than you should deal with.❞ She didn’t fight against the other holding her hand, accepting the fact Honey was much stronger than her cute looks let on or she just had a strong grip.

             It’s hard to see anything through the rain, he can barely                        see his own hands gripping Toothless’ saddle, but every                        so often, a lightning strike fills the sky.                                         Thor is angry.                        They all believed their god to be filled with an unquenchable fury.                       The kids know better. Somewhere out there is the explanation                        they’re all looking for. A beast whose fire burns cold-                        it’s shards of ice in the heart, frost in the veins, skin made of snow                       kind of cold fire.

              Ahead he hears it screech, something full of so much raw power                          and anger that Hiccup can feel his gut drop and his bones itch                          with a primal instinct that insists he flee. The others must have                           felt it too. From somewhere to his left comes a small    ‘Whoa’                            some kind of odd admiration mixed in.    Tuffnut.

               The heavens above them take a moment to rumble-                                Thor must be angry to subject them to this.                           He reaches out a hand to steady Toothless, comfort him,                           for few words can be heard above the rain by now.                           Rapid wing beats are heard and lightning scatters the group                           of kids, each of them dumb enough to be out here.

              By now he’s certain that it’s a Skrill.                            By now he’s certain they’re not going to get out of this easily.                                         ‘We’ve got to get out of here!’                           Astrid’s voice, just ahead of him rings with panic.

              The dragon circles them, forces the teens together in a small ring.                          It’s too quick to track. He feels Toothless grow agitated and knows                          that something  is about to happen. And then it does.                          Lightning scars the sky, there’s a yell, thrashing, panic. He jumps,                          twists in the saddle and there’s three figures falling fast.

             They all try to save the twins, of course they do.                         They all push their dragons faster than they’ve ever thought they                         could, his fingers brush against Ruff’s, drenched in rain she slips                         from him, a cry of panic her parting gift.                                       Gravity wins. The final moment is sickening and Hiccup is sure the                         sound of two spines shattering is something he’ll never forget.                          He knows in that moment how the rest of his nightmares are going                         to look.
