“he’s good!“ ranier says, pausing as she takes another bite of her breakfast. it’s good. her great uncle makes a mean blueberry pancake. “he said to tell you he’s sorry he couldn’t make it. gherkin dislocated a shoulder swinging on the ropes in the evil lair again, so he’s gotta deal with that.”

“he needs to call more!“ lup says. “what about school? is the semester over yet?”

ranier nods. “school’s fine! we fought a war. i helped my friends challenge the laws of the reality as we knew it. you know.” she shrugs. “oh, i got an ‘a’ in advanced necronomics, that was rad.“

“what was that first - the second part?” kravitz frowns, looking up from his coffee. “that’s - all of that was concerning, actually.” barry pats his hand.

“necronomics? like, the economics of necromancy?” barry asks. “what’s that like?”

“well, pretty much what it says on the tin,” ranier says. “but it’s interesting! i think you’d get a kick out of it, gramps.”

“huh. do you think they’d let me audit?”

kravitz furrows his brow. “can we circle back to the part where you challenged the laws of -”

“have another pancake,” taako says as he saunters in from the kitchen, sliding two more onto ranier’s plate. “what are they even feeding you over there? you’re wasting away!”

“crepes, mostly,” ranier says, obligingly cutting into a pancake.

taako scoffs. “you know, it’s never too late to transfer, pumpkin. your great uncle taako’s school has an omelette station. with three different kinds of cheese!”

“well, i do like cheese,” ranier says, “but we’ve still got a lot of work to do, you know, establishing a new world order and all.”

“aw, babes, do you remember when we saved reality from the physical embodiment of a concept?” lup says. “and now ranier’s off saving the world.” she clutches her hand to her chest, pretending to wipe a tear from her eye.

“feels like just yesterday she was articulating her first squirrel skeleton,” barry nods.

“they grow up so fast!”

We thought that they did because they have 12 different molecules for photoreceptors, whereas humans have only 3. BIG difference, right??

Nope. Turns out that they simply do not have the mental wherewithal to blend, and so needed a separate receptor for each color. The human brain adds color emissions together to create a singular representative color, like reverse engineered printing. Shrimp can’t do that. They can’t take light emitting “green” and light emitting “red” and come back with “yellow”, like we do. They have to have a receptor for yellow, and are relatively horrible at distinguishing shades of colors.

I made these last Summer, but I haven’t gotten the chance to share them yet, so here are a few of my favorite cards.  This project took me forever, but I want to do a deck for Amnesty too, so here we go again, I guess.
