#iWokeUpLikeThis can either be impressive, or frightening, depending on how you start your day! These five tips will help you achieve better-looking skin every morning without having to buy any new products or adding difficulty to your routine!
1. Drink a Glass of Water First Thing!
This is one of my favorite beauty tips of all time; when you wake up, the first thing you should do is drink a tall glass of water. Your body loses a significant amount of water as you sleep (mainly because thats 6+ hours without drinking anything!) and dehydration can have you waking up feeling sluggish and shriveled. Like a raisin. Drinking a cup or more of water when you wake up can counteract this dehydration, and will energize you better than any amount of caffeine could! Starting your day with water will help you think more clearly and will plump up your skin, causing it to look brighter, clearer, and firmer. Like a grape, instead of a raisin!
2. Choose Tea over Coffee
Most of us like to start our day with a dose of caffeine. Coffee is a common beverage of choice (mine too!) but coffee is an inflammatory. Too much coffee will increase redness and irritation in your skin (amongst other bodily issues). Any type of skin issue, whether its acne, rosacea, or puffy eyes, will be worsened by a large consumption of coffee. If you’re not a morning person and can’t imagine leaving your bed without the promise of caffeine, try tea! Tea is energizing but helps to reduce inflammation instead of causing it.
3. Glide on Some Eye Cream
What facial feature gives away fatigue the most? The eyes, of course. So how do we energize the eye area (our whole face, really) and help brighten our complexion at the same time? Eye cream! I scream for eye cream! Eye cream helps prevent premature aging, hydrates and strengthens the thin skin under the eyes, and when applied right can help increase circulation, which diminishes puffiness and darkness. Always apply eye cream generously, in a gentle sweeping motion from the inner corner, out and down along the cheekbone. This helps to drain the fluid that builds up under the eye and hits pressure points - it should feel very relaxing. Who ever said beauty must mean pain?!
4. Stretch Your Muscles
Not all of us are the crack-of-dawn-gym-going type, but just a little bit of movement in the morning can reap huge benefits throughout the rest of the day. Increasing circulation is not only good for your heart and muscles, but for your skin as well. It increases clarity and brightness, as well as the look of overall firmness. If you don’t feel like running a mile, some simple stretches when you get out of bed will suffice - anything to get that blood pumping!
5. Sanitize Your Tools
Get in the habit of cleaning your brushes and tools as soon as you use them. Dirty brushes breed bacteria and will spread dirt and oil to your skin that can cause blemishes. A simple quick cleanse will prevent all of that. It’s a pain to devote an hour a week to washing all of your brushes, but if you quickly wash them in the morning after each use, they’ll have the rest of the day and night to dry and will always be clean! Your skin will thank you!
