The Scorpion And The Ranger
Zak was slowly rolling through the city on his mechano-hog when he saw her. He nearly crashed his hog when he saw that familiar face. It had been some time since they last spoke or sine they had even seen each other. She still looked great after all this time.
He shut off his hog and watched her for a moment. He might have looked a little creepy but that wasn’t his intention. Pulling the cigarette from his lips he lowered his eyes, his mechanical eye clicking slightly. He thought on if he should continue with what he was doing or say something to her. Would she even want to talk to him after how many times he had screwed up?
“Fuck it..” He shrugged with a light shake of his head before getting off of his hog and putting out his cigarette. Slipping a hand into his pocket he made his way closer to the ranger, a small smirk tugging at his lips before he let out a cat call like whistle to get Uruvielle’s attention. “Hey there.. Miss Ranger.”

Elle stopped in her tracks at the sound of his voice. “What the fel is he doing here?” She said silently to herself. The Ranger slowly turned toward the familiar voice as though she was being held at gunpoint; it was best if she didn’t make any sudden movements.
“Look what the cat dragged in..” She said stiffly. Elle glanced him up and down quickly, almost subtly enough that if it would have been anyone else but him, they probably wouldn’t have noticed. “What brings you into this cesspool? I thought you always hated it here..” She paused, catching the bitter memories that flooded her perifory. “On second thought… Don’t answer that.”
Uruvielle looked battleworn and fatigued, as if she hadn’t had a hot meal or shower in several days if not weeks. Fine lines now decorated the corners of her eyes and forehead though none could be seen around her mouth, a good indication of her lack of laughter or smiles. Same old Elle, business, battle and bitchiness.
She broke the pregnant pause in their conversation, not knowing what else he could possibly want after not seeing or hearing from her in what seemed like ages, if only a few years. Her tone was sharp and to the literal point, and to be honest she probably didn’t mean for her words to come out as abrasive as they did. “If you’re looking for him, I don’t know where he’s at. He wasn’t at the last place we left him. I’ve never been privy to where you move him in the first place.”

A smile formed on his lips when she spoke. At least that part didn’t change over the years. With her question he shrugged lightly, motioning back towards his hog. “Supplies.” He said simply, slipping a hand into his pocket. There really wasn’t anything more to it than that.
The machine that was now in his scarred right eye socket clicked as he looked her over, giving a light nod when she mentioned “him”. “I meant to send you a letter about that.. I just uh.. I was interrupted by bullshit before I could.” He said with a shake of his head. He didn’t really have the heart to tell her what really happened. It was a long line of being fucked over by his brother ending with a bullet in his mouth. That wasn’t something he wanted to just up and tell her after not seeing her in so long.
“He’s still there.. just in a different part.” He stated after a moment of silence. “How’ve you been, Elle? You uh look great but you also look like hell.” He said honestly with a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
@firesidemissives
“Always the charmer, eh?” She said with a smirk. Her stance shifted slightly to one side and her dominate hand rested subconsciously on the butt of the revolver that was tucked neatly in its leather holster on her hip while the other grasped the strap of her pack.
“I must say, it’s always rather convenient for you to forget to include me in his movements. The old me would have been fed up with it by now and I’d probably have shot you in your good eye the moment I turned around…” Her voice siezed into a raspy almost whisper, as if years of smoking had finally caught up to her; though she rarely smoked anymore. “The old me..” She scoffed. “Vel has reminded me of exactly how old I really am. Told me to act my age and that my soul was damned to the very hell I’ve created… Something about how I needed to forgive and forget. Good thing for her, my old ass has already forgotten.”
The Ranger’s arms came to rest across her chest as the weight of her body shifted to her other foot. “It is what it is Zak. Next topic… Yeah I look like shit, I had to catch a boat home that was full of Goblins and the like. That type of ilk would make anyone look like hell. I’m surprised I still have my clothes. They stopped pawing at me after the fifth asshole died. I guess the other four didn’t matter as much as the last.”
The city bells chimes on the hour; four prominent clangs alerted city dwellers and their visitors of the coming hour. “What about you? It’s been longer than I had always cared to go without speaking to you but I had heard you moved on and remarried.. Not my place to interfere with that. How’s the… Family?” Her voice definitely cracked as she spat out the word ‘family’.
Somethings never did change and the pain and bitterness of the demise of her own family was something she had never really gotten over. She let it haunt her and fuel her, driving her deeper into unknown territory and deeper into her madness. She had hoped for the sweet comforting silence of death but it was her curse that she was so damn good at what she did. She was robbed of her family and too scarred and too stubborn to every really try for another. Though she had found love once again, she had neither seen or spoken to him in ages and assumed what any red blooded Sin’dorei would assume; He had moved on. Elle was back where she always found herself. On her own and alone.

Nodding silently, Zak’s eyes shifted to the side with the mention of his family causing him to click his tongue and offer a shrug. “Oh you know.. A bullet wound in the back of my mouth, a scar on my chest where she tried to kill me and now a workshop with two kids and a single father. The normal trying to have some sort of reason to keep going stuff.” He said rather casually.
“I had a good reason for not telling you about him.. It’s also pretty stupid but it did keep me from saying anything.” He stated, slipping a hand into his pocket as his eyes lingered on her face. “I also didn’t realize anyone cared enough to talk about me anymore. Especially my attempted love life that resulted in multiple deaths, disappointment and abandonment.” He tilted his head slightly before shrugging. “It’s not very exciting..”
“A ride with handsy goblins however.. That sounds like a trip. No pun intended.” He smirked. “Did you at least shoot one of them in the jewels to send a message to the rest?” He tried to joke before running his hand through his long raven locks.

Elle’s brow perked in a curious manner. “A workshop with two kids?” Her voice trailed off a bit. “Oh.. Yours.. Right.” She was happy for him that he had children to keep him young and carry his name after their failed attempt at such.

“The kids weren’t exactly planned.. Since you know how difficult that type of thing is difficult if not a rare thing that could happen. But the world likes to play jokes.” Zak shrugged, his eye clicking as he followed Elle’s gaze with a slightly quirked brow.

Elle flicked her gaze back to Zak as he spoke. “You can never be too careful..” She said in a solid tone. “I’ve seen enough bloodshed lately to be suspicious of almost everyone.” She, of course, wasn’t that way with him and she could only hope that he knew that.
“You’re not keeping me from anything really, just got back into town and needed to see if I still had my apartment I had previously paid for in its entirety before I left or if someone sold all my shit and pocketed the gold.” She rolled her eyes and shook her head as she spoke. This place makes me happy to be home and dances on my last nerve at the same time.

“Fair enough.” Zak nodded in reply as she spoke about her apartment. “I’d offer you a room if someone screwed you out of the apartment but I’m not entirely sure how you’d feel about being in the old house.” He said with a smirk. “Or how you’d feel about the chaos inside.” He shrugged, slipping a thumb into his belt.

The Ranger stiffened slightly as she felt a familiar feeling around her waist. She lowered her eyes and then looked back up at him. “Not to be rude..” Elle said in the same low tone but a bit more solid than before. “But I don’t think this is the most opportune moment to play.” She said with a perked brow. She hadn’t expected him to be forward with her on their first chance encounter and frankly she wasn’t sure how she should react or respond.
‘Keep it to the bitch, Elle.. Show no emotion, Show no weakness’ That was her adopted motto; it had to be. She had been through wand witnessed so much in her lifetime that when she -did- let her guard down, something horrible always happened and fate showed her why she was made to be snarky, hard, cold and callous. “I appreciate the offer on staying at the old house but I’m going to have to respectfully decline. I don’t think I’m ready to cross that threshold, not to mention… I’m not exactly sure it would be safe for you… Or the little ones.”

A confused expression formed on his face before he lowered his gaze and realized what he had done. “Huh.” He smirked with a shrug. “You know it always had a mind of it’s own.” He joked as he lifted his gaze to look at her. “Never seemed to mind it before.” He said before slowly and perhaps reluctantly releasing her.

Her brows raised and a telling look glazed her face. “Is that so?” She said amused. “I mean, if you’re looking for a job of stabbing people after their already dead men with an apparent slice of entertainment while I do all the hard work.. You’re more than welcome to join me..” She said with a smirk.
The tower clock chimed within the city and snatched her attention away from him. “Mother of Fuck.. I was supposed to meet that snide little bastard; he supposedly still has my key.” She looked over at his bike and then back up at him. “Care to give me a lift?”
@x-scorpion-x
“Sounds about right.” Zak grinned wide when he heard the amusement in her tone. That was a good start. He could still at least amuse her if not make her laugh and smile. He was glad he still had that touch. Even if his charming bastard side could be a bit cliche and cheesy at times.
His eyes shifted towards the sound of the clock then let out a soft grunt in response to her sudden cursing. “Mn?” He exhaled smoke slowly before turning towards his bike and letting out a chuckle as he turned back to Elle with a smirk. “You can ride my hog anytime.” He said before pulling the keys out of his pocket. “The sidecar is full of.. well a bunch of shit so.. Looks like you get to sit behind me.”
